The Aeronauts 2019

It was a nice short movie, but one likely to be swiftly forgotten. Would recommend tho! Movies don't have to be something insanely weird or revolutionary.

There's hardly any story to be told in this movie: a couple goes up in an air balloon, they come down, they go up again. And then there's too many flashbacks preventing the (lack of) story to move forward.

The movie does occasionally pamper us with some breathtaking scenery but, while up there, it often feels like they were trying to do something similar to Gravity, but the visual and emotional impact was not the same.

All in all, there was too much romantic innuendo and too little adventurous soul in this one. Thankfully, they didn't fall into the "kissing each other when the trouble was finally over" cliché.
A mildly entertaining but easily forgettable movie.

Can't believe how underrated this movie is. It breaks my heart that this movie is going unnoticed.

Despite Amelia Wren being a fictional character (replacing Coxwell that was really the balloonist at the time), based in Sophie Blanchard, the first woman to work as a professional balloonist who became a celebrated aeronaut following her husband's death, the rest of the movie is pretty accurate, in fact, the balloon flight depicted in The Aeronauts is based on the 5 September 1862 flight of British aeronauts James Glaisher and Henry Coxwell whose coal gas-filled balloon broke the world flight altitude record.

To add, the music, the visual effects, the breathtaking scenery and the production are incredible. Not no mention the acting of the two main characters.

It is an amazing movie. Would likely recommend it to people who like a bit of adventure and historical fiction mixture.

The are some cool shots and imagery. The plot has too many flashbacks but some intense moments.

Always love a film that stars Eddie Redmayne but the fact he’s reunited with Felicity Jones is a plus. The plot at first glance doesn’t sound like it’ll have much about it but I surprisingly really enjoyed the film as a whole. Some of the scenery from the balloon ascent was amazing and a little bit of humour made its way into the script too. Very enjoyable :relaxed:

Decent acting and some really pretty scenery (4K HDR), but overall a pretty meh movie. One thing I think is important to note is that it says based on a true story. Well it is very loosely based as Amelia wasn't actually on the voyage. Despite this movies repetitive 'woman power/feminism' notes, that part is totally made up as it was two men on this flight.... Just be careful what you take as fact that might not be.

I hate how the leading man just took up all the recognition. She saved him. He could've died up there with his ambitions. I hate that he's considered a "a man of science" and yet he wasn't aware of what lack of oxygen could do to his brain, his mentality. He could've prepared for that, very self unaware. Ugh. It's disgusting.

Never quite reaches the heights I imagined, but still an enjoyable enough tale thanks to the wonderful performances from the two leads.

Redmayne and Jones, that's the draw. Outstanding supporting cast. The story is inspired by the research of Glaisher but his pilot was not a woman (but aren't we glad it was for the movie?). The story telling was a little fractured. I give this film a 7 (good) out of 10. [Drama]

"Technically elegant but narratively flawed with a winning performance by Felicity Jones."

Good performances, but weak overall. Like somebody else stated too many flashbacks and the ending was weak.

Actually pretty good afternoon movie, entertaining and not a marvel sequel, I know the late is asking too much from nowadays movie makers and goers.

Omitting Henry Tracey Coxwell, the guy that really helped Glaisher in real life, shows how far today PC culture goes. Pandering to women should not be necessary

The movie played on my fear of heights from time to time and the action on the balloon, when not just gazing at the clouds, was wonderful. However, when the flashbacks to the land occur, the movie loses some hard fought for momentum. Still, an entertaining ride and a thrilling adventure.

I enjoyed it. The action was great. I was left wanting more though.

On the surface "The Aeronauts" is a well enough movie to make for some entertainment. And you shouldn't see it as anything else. Aside from the sometimes mediocre CGI it looks well. Glashier really did those things depicted here but he did it with a male pilot. Amelia is pure fiction but it makes for better drama to have a woman accompanying him.
The movie has some flaws in my view. The biggest one is you never get a feel for the weight of the task they are performing. Those things did happen but you don't get that "think about what it must have been like" feeling while watching this. And the way the characters are presented didn't made me invest in them.
The story starts pretty much in the middle and you learn, through flashbacks, how they got to this point. But you never learn who they really are. Sure, you get a reasoning for their motivations but it is rather shallow. It is the barest minimum. I would have wished for a more true-to-facts movie. This feels more like a blueprint story. At least they didn't give us the romance.

The movie is short, but well constructed with just enough rush to keep your blood pumped and just enough flashbacks to get you involved. some of the camera choices drew inspiration from similar adventure movies (most notably, and obviously, Gravity), but that choice rightly made this movie a visual spectacular equivalent to any others. I was slightly disappointed, tho, by the over dramatized relationship of the 2 main characters. Well what do i mean by that? So, 1. they were clearly going for the "bad company turned lovers" kind of plot, and the viewers probably expected this, but that didn't deliver too well, since thats just not how it happened in the actual event; and 2. The chemistry that worked so well back in "Theory of Everything" is just barely seen working in Aeronauts : they were both on the balloon, but they were not really cooperating and were solving their own problems most of the time. So to sum it up, the movie is great in a couple of ways, but the acting from the leads? I'm sure it could have been better.
