This is a great movie.
At least the action should be praised
Sit back and enjoy the ride...its a terrific one, trust me.

I don't know why I keep revisiting this. The timeline is still a mess. Christian Bale is out acted by Sam Worthington. I don't get the logic of Skynet creating the human-terminator hybrid. But this time I really enjoyed the action scenes and it didn't seem nearly as CGI-heavy. Maybe I have just gotten used to it over the years. I raised my rating a star and a half since I first watched it.
This movie pales in comparison to any of the previous "Terminator" films. Even "Rise of the Machines" walks all over this latest lame retread. The most memorable moment of the movie is one of the earlier scenes when a gigantic T-something-or-other attacks our heroes. The subsequent escape and chase is exciting, but it's the only thing that stood out. The appearance of a CGI-Arnold could have been fun but looked too strange to enjoy.
Christian Bale's John Connor was not the hero I thought he was destined to be. Sam Worthington's Marcus Wright character over-shadowed him entirely. That's not to say that the Wright character was welcome. He was flat and one-dimensional too. This movie is really just about CGi thingies blowing up other CGI stuff. I don't think any amount of grownup R-rated grit would have made any difference either.
So weak, you have to look at the title and listen to some familiar character names to remember it's part of the series. Nothing else, script or actors stand up to the reputation. Feels like a random mix of dystopic scenes, Robocop plot, Mad Max action moments and War of the Worlds battle cliches.
"Ohhhhh, goooood for you. And how was it? I hope it was fucking good, because it's useless now, isn't it? Ah-da-da-dah, like this in the background. What the fuck is it with you?"
Best rant ever. Better than the actual movie.
Happy birthday Christian Bale
A Terminator movie with no Arnold is no good.
Cinema Paco 1. Image 4.5 / 5, Sound 4/5. It's entertaining, many media, but he remembered best. The weakest of the series
I didn't hate it this movie as much as the first times. I thought of giving 3 stars but since I don't really look forward to rewatch this movie (I have problems with skipping a movie in a franchise) and I feel rather neutral than good, I guess 2,5 stars is fair.
I liked some parts about Marcus, it's an interesting character to me, but he takes so much screentime that should have been given to Kyle Reese. I get that this was supposed to be the first installment of a trilogy (I feel like they say that with every Terminator movie) and I guess Kyle would have gotten more of the spotlight in the sequels.
I feel like this movie would have been better if it was set in the days leading up to sending Kyle back to the '80s, it would have been more interesting to see to me and would have showed the relationship between Kyle and John better.
I also don't like Christian Bale too much as John Connor and I was never a big fan of Sam Worthington. Anton Yelchin is great but should have had more screentime and I won't talk about CGI Schwarzenegger but a Terminator movie without him isn't right.
Also also I forgot Helena Bonham Carter and Bryce Dallas Howard were in this.
Either my expectations were too low because of everyone saying it's an abomination or this is actually a good action movie. The no Arnold part really sucks but I think it's a decent stand-alone popcorn flick nonetheless. Comparing this to the previous three movies Terminator Salvation is more of the same really, but the look of the movie, tone, structure and post-apocalyptic setting (which made me think of Mad Max) makes it feel fresh in a way.
The biggest reason why I enjoyed this; the action. It's fun, over-the-top and anytime a new T model appears on-screen it's so fun. They felt pretty threatening too. My favorite part was the giant Mark I Harvester sequences followed by the MotoTerminators. Other highlights; the chase around the helicopter at the beginning, the Hydrobots in the water and the non-stop action third act.
It has a fan made feel to it at times, cringe dialogue, not a very good story and the characters are lacking in depth (that wasn't John Connor). Lots of well known actors at least and they all did ok for what kind of movie this is. The special effects are a mix of a lot of stuff (CGI, practical, in-camera) and they look great. It's also a good-looking movie in general. Cheesy ending.
A Terminator movie without THE Terminator just does not feel proper. Bale and Worthington are great, the plot is enjoyable, but it is easily the most skippable of all the movies. I still like it, but skippable compared to the others.
Rating: 2.5/5 - 70% - Worth Watching
Better than the last one
Best action in a terminator movie.
While this is definitely not a masterpiece... i like this wasn’t just another copy of the first 2... they tried a different direction with a some hints of the previous movies....
I liked it... i think after the first 2 this one is my number 3... finally a real look at the future...
Like I said not perfect at all but good take... if you liked this... play Terminator: Resistance
For me is the most underrated Exterminator movie.
Not that bad until the final scenes with all that over the top schmalzy BS...would have been a 5.5 but for that. Too many 'that wouldn't happen' moments also.
I do enjoy this one to a certain extent, especially the design of the wasteland (I even had the art book when it came out) but story-wise, this movie does nothing for me. It's trying too hard to be Mad Max with Terminators, but it doesn't really work. I feel that part of the problem is that the main character Marcus, played by Sam Worthington, is spoiled to us in the trailer that he is actually a terminator when he is found in the 2018 present day war. It would've been a cool twist if the audience found out half-way through the movie that he was one, but NOPE. The same problem happened with Genisys. Give away the big twist right in the fucking trailer.
It needs work with character development. Marcus has the potential to be an interesting anti-hero, one that struggles with living reality as a Terminator, but he doesn't amount to much. We're told his backstory and... he can sometimes but kind to others... and... uh... yeah, I don't even know. I like the scene where Moon Bloodgood is lying her head on Worthington's chest and she says he has a strong heart. It's a clever double entendre. He has a strong heart because he's a Terminator and he has good in him.
Again, the action scenes are great and I love the set design. Probably the best (and only) Terminator war film we're going to get. If the script was reworked and Marcus had better character motives, this would be rated much higher.
Final note, this was the movie that introduced me to Anton Yelchin. May he rest in peace.
McG takes a sledgehammer to James Cameron’s vision in Terminator Salvation, a loud, noisy action film with no heart. Going where no Terminator film should ever go, the story follows the Resistance’s war with Skynet in the aftermath of Judgement Day. McG clearly has no respect for the material and doesn’t understand it; delivering a rather generic post-apocalyptic adventure with an occasional nod to the Terminator mythos. However, the cast is rather impressive, and includes Sam Worthington, Christian Bale, Anton Yelchin, Moon Bloodgood, and Bryce Dallas Howard; but they’re all stuck playing fairly rote stereotypes. Still, the high-adrenaline action scenes are exciting and the special effects are quite good. Terminator Salvation is an entertaining film, but it has lost the compelling storytelling that made Terminator such a groundbreaking science fiction series.
no intensity. no atmosphere. nothing interesting to think about. nothing original. boring dialogue.
i liked him way better than Terminator Rise Of The Machines that's for sure.
A very entertaining flick! They broke with the "old" formula of a Terminator being sent back through time but that doesn't hurt the series: this time Skynet tries to terminate Kyle Reese, the father of John Connor, so that John can't send him back through time leading to the events of "Terminator 1".
I would recommend to watch the "old" Terminator flicks first because there are some references made to those...
A breath of fresh air...

Not as good as the original Terminator movies, but a good Sunday afternoon movie!

Well, not as good as T1 or T2, but much better than T3.
