Elle Fanning's character is just so plain and boring
What a complete pile of predictable, cliche'd rubbish. Nothing unpredictable, nothing interesting, just one boring predictable scene after the other. The acting was pretty good, but that's it. The script and plot are without depth, without tension, without anything of substance. Luckily I had my laptop to help me survive this. i only sat through it because I was watching with my teenage niece. When the movie ended, she said WHAT? What? Is that it?? I gave her a wry smile.
It's gloomy tone sometimes sits uneasily with the energetic music, but thanks to the wonderful Fanning, this is still a film worth watching.
Elle Fanning stars in Teen Spirit, an indie drama about a young girl who gets the chance to follow her dreams. When a national singing competition holds auditions in a small town on the Isle of White, a teenage waitress named Violet Valenski tries out and partners with a former opera singer who promises to coach her, and get her to the finals. Fanning gives a strong performance and proves to be a pretty good singer too. However, the pacing is a little slow and the plot is bit formulaic, but it does some interesting things with the character development and avoids a few of the more obvious clichés. Also, the soundtrack is really well-done, featuring a good array of pop songs that help to set the right tone. While Teen Spirit has a few problems, it ends up being a rather moving coming-of-age film with something to say.
It's fine for a debut movie, but the plot feels very well trotten before. It doesn't go quite as dark as I expected it to go once the dark sides came into play, but I'm not sure if this is good or bad. As it is, it's a pretty generic girl from humble origins wants to be a singer kind of story.
A unique and easy ride alongside a girl and her hopeful journey to stardom. It’s a pretty chill movie but I was content the whole way through. No more, no less. Think modern Flashdance. Cinematography and editing was fun. 7/10
A 90-minute hookless pop dirge as genuine as its awkward playback.
At the outset I'll say that I am not the demographic that this movie was aimed. When I think music I think Led Zeppelin. It is your typical inexperienced (rather than shy) teenager singer meets decrypt old Croatian opera singer who becomes her manager. They have a (rather small actually) falling out and make-up. She goes on to perform in the Teen Spirit talent competition. And who wins? Don't miss the closing credits.....

Maybe as some of you said it all at first, not your demographic.
Don't know, what one can expect watching something, that usually or definitely isn't our liking (gender, actor, etc) PLOT.
I'm not really into this kind of movies, either won't consider watching. From the plot seemed it was a 'cliche' over dozens of these kind, added with geographical topics!' (when watching, thought , well could be worse, luckily was the obvious.
Must say another surprising movie from Fanning, mostly the reason this was on my watch list. Wasn't the worst nor the best history wise,.. It had some parts that surprised me, weren't pointed or left to open ending when could have serve as what did a difference. My thoughts. Also, I think I may not be into the demographic. Who knows or it really matters? Many movies get lost for passing them on on thinking those things, trailers n critics.
Anyways... Nice to catch it, it got weird to watch Elle younger (even not that much) after being a huge fan of The Great. That was weird lol (and old cliches on Polish people, well I guess over this new world of last and this year, could have been worse. Not decided on what's less dumb. The SO OLD and completely out of the modern times ones, or the obvious CONTEST WINNER.
