A seriously thin, mindless exercise that has no right being anywhere near as much fun as it is. The Broken Lizard guys basically use this as an excuse to wear trucker shades and sunglasses, then just ad-lib their way through a dozen identical situations with a broad variety of results. At some points, like the "busted stoners" opening spot, or the infamous "meow" exchange with Jim Gaffigan, it's uproariously, tear-streakingly hilarious. In just as many others, though, the crew overreaches to stay in character and their quips fall flat.
Brian Cox pulls off a great Rip Torn impression as the reluctantly strict station captain, but his officers pay him so little heed that it doesn't amount to much more than a gag role, and basically everyone else on-camera seems content to play themselves. With just the faintest hint of an arching plotline and a weird non-ending before the credits, this is best seen as a series of interrelated sketches and nothing more... which makes it perfect for fans of a particular attention-sapping intoxicant.
Nowhere near as funny as people make it out to be. Probably hilarious if you're a 13 year old in 2005 when it played on late night TV.
Meow this is a hilarious movie.
YEW BOYS LIKE MECK..SEE..CO?!
I haven't laughed like this in ages..
"I swear to God I'll pistol whip the next guy who says "Shenanigans."
Hey Farva what's the name of that restaurant you like with all the goofy shit on the walls and the mozzarella sticks?
You mean Shenanigans?
OOOOOOOOOOOOOO."
My favorite comedy movie, I laughed so much
I've just watched it for the first time in 2023, and it unfortunately does not hold up.
I can see how it would have worked 20 years ago, but a comedy about a bunch of bully cops continually showing their ineptitude, corruption, racism, sexism, repeated abuse of the public, brutality, misuse of public funds, and much more. The result of all of this is to put people in prison for cannabis-related crimes. You know... just like real life.
I know it's a silly farce, and there are some really funny parts, but overall it just doesn't hit the same way now.
who said cops weren't funny.. well these highway super troopers will prove you wrong. 7/10

A lot of people seem to hate this movie but I love it. There are multiple styles of comedy and this is what I like to call "stupid fun" and it looks like I was born with that type of sense of humor. Highly recommend and if you watch with a group of friends, even better.
