Never thought a waitress scene in TV would make me so emotional. They don't make them like this one anymore. Absolutely loved it.
As my Amy Adams film fest continues it's nice to see her in a leading role. The film and her character have a real charm and the people are believable in their complexity. Amy plays a struggling single mother with some complicated relationships and the plot is a nice journey for her. Some things felt a little unfinished (like Norah's side story with Lynn) but overall it left me with a positive feeling for everyone.
This movie came highly recommended by several people whose tastes in movies seem to reflect my own. The film did not disappoint. On the surface the movie might seem to be standard Hollywood fare - two sisters learn important life lessons while struggling through a hard life. Sounds familiar, right?
But the film was anything but the traditional crap that we've come to expect from Hollywood. The film did not need to tie up all of the loose ends. When the sisters had a falling out there wasn't a teary makeup session. When the lead realized that she did not need to impress her high school friends and that she could not relate to them there wasn't a "girl power" moment. Everything in the movie, right down to the 90 minute run-time, is pleasantly understated.
The funny thing is that I didn't see it at first. After the movie ended I swished it around in my head for a few minutes. I enjoyed the movie but it seemed like it could have been even better. It was then that I realized that I too had fallen into the same trap that I often speak of: being conditioned to expect what we usually get in these films. While it was by no means a masterpiece the director got it right in the end.

I found this film by chance and it caught my attention because of the cast. Amy Adams, Emily Blunt and Alan Arkin were sufficient for making me wanna see this.
They all gave great performances in this story about a dysfunctional family composed by two sisters, their father and the son of one of the sisters. The two sisters start a company called "Sunshine Cleaning" and their work is to clean crime scenes after the police remove the corpse. The father is always looking for some scheme to make money to help raise his grandson, the younger sister isn't very responsible and the older sister is trying to create a better life for her and her son in the pursuit of their happiness.
The major problem with this film is the plot holes. Many details aren't explained and you feel kinda lost. There were some facts that I would like to know more of, some facts are presented to you without any previous introduction.
Overall, mainly it's a film of performances. It wasn't bad but it left me at the end wanting for something more.
