I’m a bit of a technology enthusiast so I’ve come to love most of the Anime’s that have a more futuristic setting. This movie was just right for me.
The animation and music quality was just fine. The story progression and pacing felt great and was very entertaining. The character development was interesting. I will say that a lot of movie drama is built by characters just behaving dumbly. For example, When Kenji (and the others) respond to a random spam email with a decrypted key to break into Oz. In addition, there was certainly some drama that just didn’t have the right intensity.
I wasn’t a huge fan of the way they did the connection between Oz and the real world as it was stuck between virtual reality and just playing a video game. I also thought the virtual world of Oz animating could’ve been better quality, but that’s just an opinion with my predefined notion of what a virtual world might look like.
It was a wonderful story with many intricate details and a little bit of love.
A curious story, but I would have preferred it not to focus so much on the Oz part but more on the family and the relationship between the characters. It's worth a look.
Entertaining and engaging animation, I enjoyed the visuals. Terrible story, it feels like a teenage boy with too many fantasies but zero experience with the opposite sex wrote and directed this. Most of the characters are laughable and childish, their relationships make no sense and the story isn't compelling at all. Maybe something was lost in translation...
Summer Wars is well animated, accompanied by a catchy OST & sound design, and tells a fun, touching story about family and respecting the relationships we don't get to choose, even when they're hard to handle. It does lose its way in the middle for a bit, extending things unnecessarily and relying too much on people making dumb decisions in order to cause plot progression. These lacklustre middle scenes probably would have been more engaging if our two MCs weren't quite so bland - the choice to tug at a romance but push it to the side until the very final moment is an odd one, especially when it feels like exploring those threads over the course of the movie's run would have provided some much-needed development and dialogue opportunities for these characters. It's certainly not without faults, but it's a fun time regardless, and the finale of the film reels it all back in to make sure each character has a moment to shine, no matter how dully or stupidly they'd acted in earlier scenes.
I don’t get this film’s high rating. There’s charm all over the place but so is the story! Oh well, at least it was pretty
Yeah it's a good film, nice animation
if the Metaverse existed long before 2022. and with epic fight and heartwarming scenes.
10/ 69 times my step sister said I'm stuck
Great movie, nice animation, some elements of the plot were taken from the first Digimon movie but I don't mind. All in all worth the watch.

This was a very nice movie. It is sort of a Facebook 2.0 with elements from the movie Live Free or Die Hard (2007). To be honest i shudder at the thought that a single network on the internet would ever get so much power. But then again, this is a movie and there anything can happen.
What i thought was really cool was that family values were mixed with technology and awesome computer battles. I did not understand that card game though, it seems to be a purely Japanese card game.
All in all i thought it was very good. As those last seconds of the countdown ticked away and that satellite was crashing down to that big mansion i knew that it wasn't go hit the mansion and kill anybody (it not that kind of movie, you can see that right from the start) but still, i was still cheering for Kenji to finish the hacking the system in time to change the course of the satellite aimed at them. What an awesome scene was that!
Why this movie isn't more popular i don't know. Everything you could possibly wish for a in a family feel-good movie is in here. I can definitely recommend this movie to anyone, even people who don't know or like anime.
