Just finished watching this with my niece. We both loved it! Lots of funny parts, adorable characters, and plenty of singing. Most of the music is of older songs you've heard before by great artists like Elvis Presley, Whitney Houston, Four Tops, Bob Marley, and more. Honestly, this is probably my favourite soundtrack from any animated film to date because of these great artists and how they incorporated their songs being song by characters in the movie. You will definitely be singing along, I can almost guarantee it!! LOL!
Love potion is no different than GHB and other date rape drugs. Dressing it up as a cute kids film is pretty sinister if you ask me.
Uh... Yeah. What other people said. Also did anyone else notice that there was only one black character. the token one. The way they designed him was even worse. and that was awful.
This suffers from there being an unoriginal song every 20 seconds after the last. Song to Dialogue ratio is like 80/20
From Lucasfilm comes the animated musical fantasy Strange Magic. The story follows a jaded fairy princess whose former finance attempts to win her back by tricking an elf into venturing into the dark forest to get a love potion for him. Starring Evan Rachel Wood, Alan Cumming, Kristin Chenoweth, and Peter Stormare, the film has a strong cast that does a great job at bringing the characters to life. And the CGI is really good, with a distinctive look and an impressive use of color. However, the plot relies too heavily on musical numbers and several of the songs get repeated over and over again. Strange Magic isn’t without its charm, but it’s a familiar tale that’s been told before (and better).
Within the first 5 minutes, I was worried I wasn't going to enjoy this film, but the second the singing began, I knew I was wrong. This film, while wrought with a few cliches we've seen before, has a lot of beautiful animation, a few new original ideas and most importantly a LOT of music. When something is billed as a musical, THIS is what I like to see. The story is told through music and song, rather than exposition and dialogue, and while, to some, that might be disconcerting, I thought it was perfect. Now beware: this is a jukebox musical, so the songs are not original, BUT, they pulled a lot from the 60s, 70s and 80s, with a couple of newer songs just to make it relevant. The new arrangements are different enough that I can listen to them separately from the original and get enjoyment, which is tough to say for most covers. The only issue with the music is the "mash-ups" which they don't really seem to understand. They don't blend the songs together for the most part, which really makes it seem choppy and meh. The voice acting and animation were superb, but the plot needed some work. I thought it was a really good, fun film, but with a little reworking on that script, it could have been a classic. Nonetheless, I'm happy with what we got.
The animation is fine, but the constant barrage of songs makes the movie a wearying experience.

This is a really good looking movie. The details are amazing! However I seriously could not watch more than 20 minutes of this. The singing is almost NONSTOP. I don't mind some singing as long as there is more acting than singing. But in the little bit I watched, we were lucky to get maybe 5 minutes of dialogue before they would break out into song. If you love musicals, then this movie is for you. If you prefer plot and comedy, this movie is definitely no Shrek. It's a shame, because it really is beautifully rendered.
