Worst job of Gervais for sure. Really bad and flat with no story no oneliners no fun no nothing.
The amount of negative comments is completely unwarranted and makes me think that all these supposed “Ricky Gervais fans” who just really hated the movie are simply pretending to be fans to turn others off from watching the film. This is not a bad movie at all.
Sure, it’s not quite on Gervais’ usual level of comedy, but it’s a fun watch nonetheless. Not a boring moment in the film, compared to many dozens of praised blockbuster films that I struggled to even finish. 8/10 from me.
its a very light movie with some chuckles. dont expect anything special but if you like Gervais, you'll probable nod positively to this one. goes down the throat smoothly.
Everyone who's commented has left negative reviews... I enjoyed the film. I reckon it's worth watching just based on that. 8/10 for me :)
Special Correspondents is a breezy light-hearted comedy. Two people are supposed to go to a war-torn country, but they can't make it. So they sit in an apartment in new-york to create an illusion that they are where they should be. What could go wrong?
Both Rickey Gervais and Eric Bana are in their characters. The script does not demand a lot and for veteran actors like them, this was a walk in the park. This is both written and directed by Gervais. I came to know about this fact after the movie finished, and then in comparison, I wondered how the movie could have been. Gervais as a good comic sense and that writing felt much too simplistic for his standards.
There is nothing much thought-provoking about it. This has been one of the constant complaints about the film. I do understand that the potential is somewhat squandered, but I don't get why everything has to make a point or be hard-hitting. Does media have to make a statement or stand for something always? There can be flicks which just come and go, and make you smile while they last.
Is this a must-watch? hardly so. But if you are watching it, will it be entertaining? At least it was for me. We need simple humour without any other meaning to be derived sometimes.
sooo Ricky's gf was script editor and BOTH of the duo didn't see that it was complete shit? WHAT HAPPENED
A radio correspondent (Eric Bana) and his technician (Ricky Gervais) lose their passports, so decide to stage a report from ‘Ecuador’ while actually being above a bar in New York.
The phrase “If you don’t have anything good to say, don’t say anything” comes to mind. I’ll break the rule here, but I’ll keep it short since there are no redeeming features to Special Correspondents. The writing is first-draft level stuff, the characters are paper thin and the story is so contrived it actually makes you a bit angry. At no point is it funny or witty.
There are hints of satire, with gentle prods at the gullibility of the media and the public in general, but nothing ever really hits home.
A real stinker from Gervais.

it passes time fine. some jokes make you chuckle, others are just dumb, but overall you wont regret seeing it.
Netflix on the cover of a movie is starting to be a warning not to see the movie. seriously.
Passports, entry papers and tickets. Don't lose them.
Why would I lose them?
I was just saying.
What, like I lost my wife?
Believe when I tell you I HOWLED. This proves yet again to never judge a movie by it's IMDb rating or bad reviews. I found it to be really entertaining, hilarious and original. Absolutely loved and enjoyed watching it.
This has some pretty bad reviews . Fair enough its not as funny as Rickys sitcoms, but its a really good movie had me chuckling a few times. Eric bana is always Chopper to me though. i would say not gervais best work but well worth a watch 6/10.

Being a Ricky Gervais fan it pains me to say that this was pretty awful. Politically insensitive, lazily scripted, badly directed, terribly acted, this has almost no positives. I hope Gervais' return to his David Brent character in his next movie will be better than this!
