Sly 2023

"Life is addition up until age 40, and after that it's subtraction."

Never knew Sly was so good at polo. Never knew about his dad knocking him off a horse. Wish he talked about his adventures in the porn industry. Wish we saw more people talking about Sly. Wish they had a whole section about Cobra and Demolition Man. Man, this could've been so much more now that I think about it!

Still it makes me want to watch Rocky again. Anyway Sly is a decent watch but not as fun as the 4 part Schwarzenegger one. He defeated you again Stallone!

That's a damn Legend right there boys..Sly, we love you brother.. I'm a child of the 80s and Sly has been a part of my life since I can remember..from being entertained on the big screen, to playing as kids and reenacting different scenes, to great quotes and one liners.. so thank you man for being an inspiration, for being entertaining and for just being fucking cool

Highly recommend.
One of my rare 10:10 ratings.

Let me assure you, you do not need to be a Rocky or Rambo fan to see this doc… or even a Sly fan for that matter.
Whats fascinating, is the interesting emotional and inspiring way Sly came across. No insta filter no rags to riches fairytale, just the finest, most honest, self deprecating, fascinating, INTERESTING biographical documentaries I have ever seen. Cut above the rest.
I do agree that with a career spanning 6 decades there could have been enough material for a series focusing on each decade but having said that, if you just want learn a bit of history about a legend this is as good a place as any to start.

You will be transfixed for the entire 90 minutes!

WATCH IT

Surprisingly a very good documentary. A lot of things I didn't know. I'm not saying I'm a Stallone fan, but I grew up watching his movies. Except for Rocky, which I didn't really enjoy, and that's the one that gets the most space in the documentary. As others have written, you don't even have to be a fan to enjoy the documentary because it's really interesting. It might have needed a bit longer passage to discuss more films, but it's still definitely worth your time.

I would love to see a similar style with other actors.

It is always a pleasure to hear Sly. And it's always a pleasure to see him behind the scenes.

This is a fitting document to the relationships he has had with the silver screen, the writer's pad, his family, as well as fame and his own ego.

Overall however, I hoped for a treatment similar to 'Arnold' - chapters and more exposition. I would have liked one episode about the career and the other about the family man. This all felt a little quickly passed over.

And most noticeably, there was a melancholic tone to the whole thing. Though age means Sly is on the latter half of life's lap, he's nowhere nearing passing on. It didn't need to feel like the finality of a career for a man who is still so active.

The first few movies you think of when you think action are most likely stalone movies, im not much of a fan of stalone but I respect his work and this documentary did more then show respect to the industry he helped shape. the clips, the convo, the cinema, the creed, the chapters, the characters, it's all in this.
