Ooofff that was a rough one.
My second A24 film, very funny and colorful, very 80s indeed. And it has Jerry from Rick and Morty, Chance the Rapper, and Zazie Beetz!
This one was rough. I really like A24 and campy/cheesy horror, but something about it didn’t really click for me at all. What’s even more of a shame is that I genuinely like most of the actors in this movie. I can’t outwardly say it was bad, or unwatchable, but it is far from good. Therefore, I am unable to recommend this movie unless you are an A24 completionist or are a small glutton for punishment when it comes to horror movies.

The reviews were not kind to Slice, but the concept seemed intriguing and I liked a few of the actors in it (Paul Scheer, Zazie Beetz, Chris Parnell), so I gave it a chance anyhow. I'm actually glad I did. For a pretty low budget comedy, it had some decent world building and enough funny moments to garner some chuckles here and there. It's definitely for horror comedy genre fans and likely doesn't have much appeal to a general audience, so if you fall into that category, it's worth a watch.

I love A24 and campy horror comedy but yikes. This is just plain bad.
It's unfunny, cheap-looking and shoddily put together. Almost nothing in Slice works. Even Zazie Beetz looked bored. The only positive I can think about is the mercifully short runtime that makes this bearable.
