Got some scares but the "story" almost made me sleep.
I didn't even watch this movie in theaters and I still wanted to leave.
Still a good horror movie but the first one was better.
Sinister 2 succeeded in creating a morbid atmosphere and startling me sometimes, but especially in the end it followed the typical horror movie logic that isn't logic at all. To sum it up Sinister 2 isn't outstanding but still fun to watch, even more so with friends.
So awful!!!! The first one really hit the spot…
This one is to be forgotten, wouldn’t recommend to watch not even for sport
Just seen Sinister 2 and wow it was a giant piece of shit. All the kid actors sucked, the writing was shit, and it was very disappointing.
I originally wasn't going to review this movie, because I think this review is late enough and I didn't want to talk about it since I'm working on other things that I have full interest in, but then I notice very quickly that those in depth reviews many take awhile to be finished and I always want to keep updated.
I really liked Sinister for it's atmosphere and that most of the violence happened in your imagination and not on screen. Sinister 2 is totally different. It fails in creating the same threatening atmosphere the first movie had and tries to cover that by... making everything more graphic and brutal.
It will not become one of my favorite movies but I've certainly seen worse...
A disappointing sequel, Sinister 2 lacks the intensity and suspense that made the original so compelling. After the death of the Oswalt family a former deputy turned private investigator attempts to break Bughuul’s cycle by burning down the houses of its victims to prevent him from cultivating new ones, but when he discovers a mother (played by Shannyn Sossamon) and her two sons living at a farmhouse that was one of the crime scenes he tries to find a way to save them before Bughuul can get to them. The film makes the classic mistake of over-explaining by showing how children are corrupted and turned by Bughuul (which is better left ambiguous). Also, the child actors aren’t that good, and the casting of twins (who are similar looking) as the two brothers makes things especially confusing and hard to follow. Additionally, the retconning of Bughuul to having multiple killing cycles somehow takes away his mystique and diminishes the stakes of the battle for this one family. Sinister 2 makes all the wrong moves and becomes just another cheesy horror sequel doing the same old thing.
I don't remember much about the first film so I guess that means that my review will be closer to those from others who haven't seen the original. I may update once I watch the first again.
So I guess I'll be judging this based as a stand-alone film, which in my opinion is how I think sequels should be judged anyway as well as a continuation of the first film.
I found the trailer pretty scary. The snuff films seem to up the ante and therefore I was anticipating some discomfort on viewing. Sure I got discomfort, which is good (this is a horror after all) however only through the abundance of snuff films dotted throughout. It was the only real horror for me in the film bar the creepy radio but the guy who Detective So-and-so goes to visit ruins that scene for me (a tad over-acting, in my opinion).
The character of Detective So-and-so was likeable and even added some humour with his physical presence which I guess is what kept me invested. The domestic abuse back-story had my heart-strings and the dad made me so angry. It gives a good foundation for the ghost children to entice Dylan to kill his family in an offering to Bughuul but they don't use it. They just force him pretty much to watch them as he's polite and wants the nightmares to stop. I get that Zach felt left out but does he really have that much evil in him to kill his whole family based on that. And does that mean the children who killed before weren't possessed? Pah.
That's all I really have to say on the matter. The grim and shocking deaths are the glue that holds this pretty standard and forgettable film together. It doesn't offend but certainly didn't offer much.
Don’t get the hate on this film in some ways I prefer it to the first definitely underrated.
i wouldn't recommend this movie to my worst enemy. well... maybe i would, but only to my worst enemy. it's that bad.
5/10
This could have Been an awesome sequel
instead it was just an awful sequel.
The magic and the drive that number one carried to keep it interesting and to keep you engaged
Was absent in this movie.
All the things that made number 1 good were missing in this one and instead it just got caught up
in it's own story of domestic violence
and what not.
I'm here for the Supernatural not
for the super horrible.
VERDICT:
A boring piss-poor Imitation of number one
if number one was
made dull and boring.
I have watched the unrated version of SINISTER 2
With all the extended kill videos and with all the stuff that got cut from the movie if this version was the default version this movie would be so much better and my thoughts on this movie would be much more complimentary.
Well at least I have
SINISTER 1
AND
BLACK PHONE
to enjoy from
The Sinister Universe.
this movie annoyed me more than it scared me. stick to the first movie and ignore this
such a strange mix of bad decisions. the kept the bizzarre scenes of ritualized deaths of the first movie but who watch thoses are the kids, i mean wat ?? and who plays the mother is someone who makes naked scenes on ation movies. i mean shes not particularly bad its her history and therefore weak for horror movies.
Not the worst movie in the world or anything but it's way worse than the first one. I mean waaay worse.
it is very different from other horror movies.
the main antagonist has barely seen
Sriously ?? What a waste of a "franchise"

A disappointing follow-up. It primarily lacked any kind of suspense. Go watch/re-watch the first Sinister instead.
