You're missing out on lots by watching this movie which seems like a poor portrayal of events, give it a miss. Read or listen to the audiobook 'American Kingpin' and you'll get a far more accurate record of events and a better feeling of all the people involved. Did the movie miss the part where Ross cultivated mushrooms to start the Silk Road and was conflicted about telling his girlfriend?
Book 9/10 and the movie is a 5, tops.
Great as I wasn’t aware of the story 8/10. Watch the BBC Storyviile documentary as it’s even better.
Before watching: Looks like an American rip off of How to Sell Drugs Online, Fast. Gonna give it a go because Nick Robinson
Wasn't too bad, no where near as good as the book.
Having read the book, this would have worked much better as a mini series. Everything happened too quickly, removing any buildup.
This is bullshit. I didn't know the story before this movie, and I've got to say, what this young guy did is amazing! What people doing in their own lives is their own choise.
In direct comparison with the German documentary about the teenage druglord "shiny_flakes" this movie hasn't any interesting information how the guy could run silk road this successful. IMHO this movie is about a Old-school cop right from rehab who make a bad decision in the end. The silk road boy is just annoying.
An interesting film to be sure but I get the feeling that it could have been better. Clarke is good value as Bowden but the normally reliable Robinson seems uncomfortable in his role.
Not a bad movie, entertaining enough to keep you interested in the story and characters.
I knew nothing of the story before watching this, so I have nothing to add as regards authenticity.
As for the "corrupt DEA agent determined to bring down his billion-dollar empire", that is a bit misleading as he was already working hard at bringing him down long before he became corrupt.
I couldn't understand that someone so smart in starting this site on the dark web, wasn't smart enough to continually change his email to avoid detection. And what did he do with all that money he made?

The problem with this film is that glamorizes Ulbricht's intentions. Better watch Deep Web (2015) instead.

This is a true story. But the movie is missing some feelings. Tbh, I expected more.
The capture scene is true as hell. Fbi followed him to a library and waited him to login the account where bitcoins were because if he hadn't logged on, they would not able to seize the coins as they were encrypted. With a distraction from a homeless, they made the attack. After sometime, government sold those bitcoins in an auction. I did not catch it in the movie.
I believe this scene is the main scene and could be better. It was not so strong enough.
