What a mess. Could not finish at all. It is for under 13.
I know you really really want it too and for people to take up arms against the evil patriarchy, but by and large most people couldn't care they just want to be entertained. Need a woke warning on movies these days
Starts great until the main character goes full Mary Sue and has to save all of the incompetent men. Still, I found the movie fun and entertaining. Well worth the rental and time invested.
cant understand the critics, i enjoyed it really much. tense, thrilling and great scenes + some fantastic element and a strong right fist!
I don't get it,is there hidden plot somewhere or theory, that will make us say wow that were good, cause the plot i just saw sucks and stupid to believe.
What a movie not bad at all why so many bad critics?
Was fun to watch and intense to hang on a plane :D
This movie seems very strange, but an incredible acting performance by Chloë. Most of the movie plays in a cockpit in which only she is in the scene. It is unfortunate that somehow all the males are all incompetent and shallow. She on the other hand is invincible and can climb a plane in full flight. If you shut down your brain and suspend all disbelief, it is an entertaining movie, with bad plot, good pacing and good acting skill.
So I settled in to watch a nice action, drama, war movie. Only it turned out to also be a bit of a horror movie as well. The thing is, it is also one of the funniest movies I have seen in a long time.
Having said that - I really did like this movie and I really did find it genuinely funny (in a not meant to be sort of way). Chloë Grace Moretz kicks some serious ass in this movie and easily defies high winds and gravity.
OK, so you might have to check your brain at the door - but once you do, sit back relax and enjoy a great ride.
How I rate:
1-3  = seriously! don't waste your time
4-6  = you may or may not enjoy this
7-8  = I expect you will like this too
9-10  = movies and TV shows I really love!
the best thing in this movie is the performance of Chloë Moretz, the general ideia and the aesthetics.
the movie was all over the place and doesn't know if it wants to be a psychological horror, an action film, a metaphorical one, so it tries to be all at once and although it doesn't completely fail at all, it leaves something to be desired.
At first I thought the story in general was an allegory about feminism and empowerment, but the film is not deep enough for that. it is possible to tell a story of feminine strength without having to place all men as villains, dumb and useless (including the protagonist's lover).
I would really like to see this film made by Blumhouse.
Not bad enough to be funny
Not good enough to be interesting
This might be one of the most entertaining things I’ve ever seen. Simply stupendously sensational stuff.
'Shadow in the Cloud' is bonkers, I had a blast watching it. There were no rejected ideas in the writers room, that’s for certain! I'm glad to see that this hasn't been slaughtered via reviews; at least not to the level I was expecting. It’s utter madness and I’m fully here for it, the amount of craziness they fit into less than 80 or so minutes is nuts; the special effects - aside from the iffy end fight, granted - is neat for a production of this standing.
Chloë Grace Moretz legit gives a great performance, easily her best that I’ve currently seen. The rest of the cast fit their roles well, with the radio comms made great use of for large portions for the cast behind Moretz. I thought it’d get boring being so talky at the beginning, but it never did.
Immense rewatchability to this, I’ll no doubt be revisiting it. It makes absolutely zero sense, like whatsoever, but it might be the best 'switch off your brain' flick out there. No joke. It's unashamedly stupid and I kinda love it; you definitely can't deny its originality either!
This movie doesn't make any sense....... Please stay safe ... Don't watch
This was a lot of fun with a solid Chloe Moretz performance. I also enjoyed the John Carpenter 80’s like musical score.
Reviewers on here can be more boring than critics lol. The excuse for the monster/gremlin is in the beginning. Can’t expect anymore of an explanation than fighter pilot planes attracting gremlins.
Which is weird but that is the explanation. People act like it’s never explained why there’s a monster.
I went into this knowing nothing more than it was set during WWII, starred Chloe Grace Moretz, and had gotten solid reviews. After finishing it....I'm at a loss for how it got ANY good reviews. This was not great and felt like a mish-mash of way too many different visions/stories/genres. If you're planning on watching, here come spoilers. If you plan on avoiding this (which you should), this is the crazy ride you'll go on: SPOILERS START HERE
The first 30-40 minutes are basically a one-hander with only Moretz on screen in an isolated environment of a WWII plane's gunner turrent. It felt like it could be a copy of Locke, but then a gremlin (yes, an actual gremlin) shows up and makes her life hell. During this time there's also a literal mystery box on the plane that you're trying to figure out what is in it. Oh, and then there's a Japanese scout plane coming in and out of the clouds that may or may not find them. Moretz shoots the plane down, the gremlin starts taking the plane apart, and the mystery box is a drugged to sleep baby. Then it gets even more bonkers. Moretz crawls on the outside of the plane to get her baby box, they all take on a fleet of enemy planes, the gremlin kills most of the crew, then they crash land. Before credits roll there's some unearned romantic melodrama, a fist fight with the gremlin, and an explosion for good measure. Sigh....this was just bad.
Its not in category of movies like Shark attack or Hurricane Sharks because they where funny this one is full of empty dialogos shallow plot and kids cant learn anything from it.
There’s a 20 or 30 minute section of Moretz, alone on screen, communicating to the other characters via radio and totally powerless, that’s just fantastic. I thought I was going to watch a full length film version of her desperately trying to complete her mission while disembodied voices grow more and more paranoid. That was not what happened.
Ridiculous display of female empowerment that glorifies the participation of women in warfare. The director and protagonist have no problem supporting a project written by an alleged sexual abuser, but at least they claim to have rewritten the script. Regardless, this is an absurd outlandish action story underlined by a constant and unbearable soundtrack.
What a total disappointment... this was a terrible movie, don’t waste your time. Acting, Dialogue, CGI was mediocre. The trailer at a first glance makes you think you’re in for an adventurous ride. Don’t be fooled, if you get a chance to read some of the quick reviews here like mine. Save that one hour and a half for something else.
What the hell did I just watch? There seem to be two separate plots in this ludicrous film, and they really don't intersect at all, which didn't stop the director from trying to shoehorn them together. The cinematography is passable and Chloë is engaging, but the sheer stupidity of the writing is truly incredible..
Story is ALL over the place! Absolute nightmare to watch. My God Chloe what happened?...
did not watch, but thanks to the trailer I now already what to expect... another womyn desinfrenchised forced narrative .. so boring of this shit. They can't just make ripleys anymore, they have to make all men caricatured jerks first, totally one sided mind, blunt, so the womyn can thrive for their not recognized awesome perfect greatness that is never explained or can be improved, the hero is epic already. Another shity movie like enola homes to sell feminism to young girl
TOTALLY NINJA HORROR WAR & SUPER COMIC MOVIE IL LOVE IT FOR FUN FIRST DEGREE
A heavily feminist pulp action horror that does nothing to pull its ham-fisted metaphors and stilted message. If you’re OK to check your brain at the door, Shadow is worth seeing for the action set pieces and Chole literally fist fighting a man sized bat on a beach, but try and keep your eyes from rolling too hard during the almost suffocating “on-message” segments. Not bad, but far from great.
You have to use five words when one would do: Terrible!
I honestly wasn’t expecting much nor did I know anything about it, but I absolutely loved it.
From early in the film, I found it gripping and tense which kept me glued to the screen.
There’s a lot going on in this film and I see some have called it a mess, however I thought it all worked really well together. Just don’t read too much in to it and enjoy it for what it is.
I especially loved watching the old footage during the credits at the end. As a family we watch a lot of WW history and real footage, but I’d never seen any of that before. Without being sexist or trying to be a feminist etc, it’s rare to see footage of woman contributing during the WW’s and it was amazing to see.
Excellent film, definitely worth watching
This movie is just plain fucking silly!
It was a cute baby.
If you haven't watched it already then don't. Maybe if you're drunk or high it could be pretty funny.
Excellent performance by Chloe. But the movie isn't good.
What a ridiculous movie :rofl::joy::rofl:
You can shoot a fucking plane hundred of meters away out of the sky, but cant hit a fucking oversized bat 5 meters away from you? You fall out of a plane, on top of an exploding plane, and the explosion pushes you up again into the plane you fall out from.....
Nothing against action movies, or fantasy or weird plot movies but make it at least a little bit logical....
EPIC....ly stupid. Ugh. Just watched this because it's an episode on the How Did This Get Made podcast...
My Ratings
10 - I love it, regardless of quality
9 - Very good, might not love but very well done or might love, forgiving some issues
8 - Very enjoyable or Just OK for me but well done
7 - Good
6 - Watchable despite not liking the film/show
5 - Mid
3-4 - Not great, but got through it
1-2 - Very bad/You might be a communist if you like this garbage
This movie is very clever in the first half of its runtime, but it quickly derails itself by abandoning everything it set up in the next half. The story is alright and the music choices are good in some places but terrible in others. It is very obscure yet still enjoyable.
complete and utter garbage not worthy of your time.
Talk about taking liberties with your audience, it's one thing to have an alien or whatever but for her to be able to cling under a plane at that altitude doing a couple hundred miles per hour completely ignoring wind sheer is a bit much. And that's before the total bs where she falls out and gets blown back in by an exploding plane below without a scratch.
Bahaha at that explosion knocking her back in the plane. Felt like I was supposed to be taking this movie seriously but I just couldn't, and it wasn't funny, so eh.
This is a movie with an absolutely fantastic premise. Every Max Landis original usually has an interesting concept. Act I is easy for him typically. Not sure how Bright managed to drop at Act 1 but Chronicle dropped at Act 3 and this movie drops at Act 2. After amazing tension during which our protagonist is locked in a single room only able to hear the soldiers she briefly met discuss her and the war effort, the movie starts it's descent when someone eventually opens the McGuffin package. It's at this point that the movie loses all dramatic tension. From the physics defying stunts, to the protagonist who has grown plot armor, to a plot that no longer has anything left to say, the back half of the movie just fails on just about every level that the first act worked upon.
Chloe is excellent throughout on an acting level though her character makes some questionable decisions one of which damages a finger in a manner that's laughable in both a "What did she think was going to happen?" perspective as well as an FX perspective. She gives our protagonist a centeredness. This is a protagonist who is struggling both metaphorically and literally as she is damaged but when you look at the back half of the movie you see her doing things that would be diffigult even if she wasn't battle scarred. The movie sets up so many interesting spinning plates and aisde from having a CGI scene in broad daylight it doesn't do anything interesting with them.
I have absolutely no idea what I just watched. The "plot" gives you no reasons or answers, things for some reason just happens.
Was looking forward to a cool WW2 air battle movie with a kickass Chloë but this was just a trashy mishmash of a lot of nothing.
it's like Chloe wanted Sandra bullock's 'Gravity' awards.
in this at least, She doesn't have her abilities.
- The crying over the dead boyfriend was awful.
the voices on the radio are so annoying I muted them until she looked to be saying something important.
20 minutes in ... boring . I'm starting to write a review.
30mins.. I'm pressing mute, coz the chatter on the headset is fucking mind numbing.
CGI & composition of backgrounds are bad, so bad they remove tension from the 'stunt' scenes.
the soundtrack is great!
not for this film, as a standalone, definitely shouldn't be on this movie. it doesn't do anything for what you're seeing.
I don't know what I just watched dude.
I mean it is not a boring movie, but I don't even know how to describe it, this isn't a war movie, and I had to watch 'till the end just cuz I was already on it, I'd wish I could claim those minutes back.
Don't waste your time.
One of my problems is that I just can't drop the movie in the middle. It can be the worst movie ever created, when I start, I need to finish...
This one is in the bottom 10 movies of all ever watched by me. It was just waste of time.
Um........ok? just wow.....Don't watch!
10 star action, -4 for for plot.
1. Botched plot, no backstory why the creature is trying to sabatoge and capture child
2. Feminist elements. I have no problem but this movie highlight the worst kind of people to represent meant.
3. Wow... a while night of inquiry, hell, ficticios fears that ending... talk about over exaggerating. Yes women have admirable qualities but come on... the first wonder woman movie ran circles around this
Well, it's not boring. The effects, the acting, and the pace are all completely bonkers. When the ride is over, though, it doesn't feel satisfying.
It ends with breastfeeding. That's not good or bad, I just want you to wonder about that.
Just disappointing. The movie could have been quite ok, but does really every character need to be just trash? All of them? Really makes it hard to care if they live or not
OMG, what a load of garbage. Too many unbelievable things happening, story is everywhere and nowhere at the same time. Can’t get that part of my life back, what a waste.
Unfortunately this movie was stupid It had some really bad CG, just skip it
It started out great.... ended corny af!
Weird music choices too
The worst movie I've ever seen in my life! A cult of the feminine and contempt for the masculine. Woke feminist film.
Man, even when introducing the male characters, the director makes a point of having them make unrealistic faces, as if they were cartoon caricatures. While the female character is completely humanized.
A trash. Garbage.
Her scene on the plane is so impossible that it's disgusting to watch. No emotion. Just disgust.
The scene of her fighting with the Gremilin, and the men taking care of the baby as if it were useless. It doesn't make any sense for the life of an intelligent and decent human being.
This film was made by a very stupid and alienated person. Politically mired in hypocritical ideals.
This film is pure feminist programming. It's not art at all. It's like a full-length Coca-Cola commercial. It's not art, it's propaganda.
Just felt like another movie trying to do too much (e.g. Gremlins)
Best part was the JAG like credits. It was cool seeing the vintage footage especially.
I do agree with some people that there seem to be a part of the plot that was lost during production, but I thought it was entertaining and a unique twist.
A load of crap that makes absolutely no sense
This movie is completely freaking nuts, and doesn't let up. A thrill ride from start to end, surprising me at every turn. There are obviously elements of this movie that won't work for everybody, but if you can, I recommend going into this movie totally blind like I did, and don't take it too seriously. I had a ton of fun with it.
Nothing says female empowerment than "written by Max Landis."
I found the film making, score and tone really irritating, because of how cocky it got thinking it's something more than schlock.
This movie would have been a good movie had it not been for the gremlin. Why on earth they decided to add a gremlin in just made no sense at all, I guess they thought it would add to the action, but it just made the movie stupid imo.
I find it hard to believe that Amazon sanctioned this script. It had potential, when she was claustrophobic in the gun turret... but the baby... the narrative of the beaten down woman surrounded by misogynistic men.... Then the scene at the end - while the boyfriend holds the baby and she beats up the gremlin... words fail me. I'm speechless. Yes, remind us of the heroic women and the equality of women, but please don't beat men down and by doing so do the very thing to men that some men have historically done to women.
And why did Kate Bush allow her amazingu song to be used in the credits to this garbage?
Well, this was disappointing. There was potential for something better but it was scuppered by a convoluted story and a shortage of real action. Moretz already has one bad movie on her resume this year, the lamentable Tom and Jerry, and while this wasn’t entirely awful, the actress does deserve better.
Decent movie but the music was really misplaced, it didn't fit in at all and broke the immersion completely.
This is a fun entertaining “girl power” movie, definitely non-Hollywood. It is more like a comic book read, with action, horror and comedy. It is actually filmed very well and the visual effects are good. The performance by the actress is great, so many things could of gone wrong, but it plays out nicely.
Over the top silly fun with all standard values turned upside down.
Yes the misoginy is unsubtle (but is it exagerated?), yes the heroin is over the top kick ass , but that's what is fun about it. Even the last sequence, with her going from full WWF fatality mode to breast feeding her baby in the space of 20 seconds.
Also some weird choices in the visual department, with the men being presented with weird green/red hues and them being only voices for a good part of the movie. But the FX for the Gremlins are frankly satisfying.
However this is indeed escapism. Don't overthink it. Enjoy Ms Moretz' acting skills and the overall sillyness of it all.
Also, kudos to the end credits. Loved the women-at-war montage, and Hounds Of Love was an inspired choice.
If you ignore the political leanings, this is a pretty enjoyable nailbiter. I know it is a "gremlin" movie, but I thought had that element not been in there, it still could have been fun. The sections where she is literally hanging outside a moving bomber (in the trailer so not a spoiler) are so terror inducing that I just had a ball with it.
[5.75 of 10] The score & the visual aesthetics are the most refined parts of this film & bring it up from simply being a Meh film. The plot was trying to do too many things & didn't particularly succeed at any of them.
The moment where Maude Garrett falls out of the bottom of the plane only to be shot back in by another exploding plane below her without a scratch was ridiculously laughable. There are other moments that are almost as bad but that one is the most egregious. Also - why were the creatures so obsessed with taking the baby? Honestly, watching each of the characters get killed in various ways was the most enjoyable part of the film. This film could have been much more cohesive if they removed the creature feature aspect of it as there were enough high-stakes elements in play.
All of that being said, Chloë Grace Moretz does a great job carrying this film with her acting chops as well as her execution of the action scenes. Perhaps on second viewing, I can enjoy it as a popcorn action flick.
Great first half. Loved the visuals and the twists and turns when she is by herself. When there's a baby in a box being thrown around outside a plane and a fist fight with a gremlin it gets a bit too ridiculous
Soundtrak was the First best thing this movie has, Second best was to expect something great was going to happen, instead it just missed at every point and by the end I was comfortably satisfied that it has missed all , it just has no point . But the soundtrack was awesome
Oh man (or better woman?) -what the fuck is the baby doing in that story?
I can live with the borderline Mary Sue Character saving all the incompetent people (who are all male and most of them actually don't get saved). But the whole baby thing was a mess.
Why wasn't she just an intelligence officer delivering something? Its just a storyline too many. Besides: It would be more believable - WWII used a lot of women in intelligence - especially on the Allied side.
The action-scenes were ok to good, the shovinism a bit over the top (considering she had signed orders from their superior) and stupid (they put her into an important position because they thought she was stupid and hysterical - seriously?) and the "fight the patriarchy" theme tuned down enough to still be entertaining.
Would be a 7/10 without the stupid baby story.
Only scene was weird af as she falls and with the explosion she jumped back inside :D
I was very confused with this movie. I can't recommend it. Definitely not boring, but it made no sense.
A fantastic movie. Mother’s love
recommended :v:
I wanted to write a full review spelling out how and why this is such a bad bad film, instead I’m going to sit here and scream!
Not sure about this one. Maybe it would have been better without the creature, it was so ramdom imo
6.5 Rating.
Really didn't get the movie, but it was worth the time. Chloe Moretz did justice to the movie, nice acting.

The sad thing is Chloe has an amazing acting ability but she's been cast in some really shit films. To me, 'Shadow in the Cloud,' is a film that has no sense of direction or purpose. It was all over the place by starting off like a realistic historical fiction then randomly some sort of fantasy/mythical creatures showed up - not to mention the unrealistic way Chloe's character was able to climb around a moving plane. Then, probably the most unrealistic thing, was how the main character fell into an exploding plane but somehow survived. What the fuck?
This had a good premise, good acting from Chloe. Apart from that there wasn't much to get excited about.
