I am in two minds about the film. On the one hand its a competent sci-fi thriller. On the other its a disappointment from visionary director Tarsem Singh and screenwriters the Pastor brothers, as they are capable of so much more. An intriguing concept is turned into a messy action flick that, whilst enjoyable enough, does little to engage the mind. Soul/less.
Though its themes are a bit familiar, Self/less is an exciting and provocative film. When faced with his impending death a wealthy businessman named Damian Hale undergoes an experimental procedure to have his consciousness placed into a genetically engineered body, but after experiencing several vivid hallucinations he discovers that he’s actually been placed inside the body of another person whose mind is being suppressed. Ryan Reynolds gives a strong performance, as does Ben Kingsley. And the film does a good job at exploring the moral questions that arise from extending life and switching bodies, along with the nature of life and what makes up a person. Extraordinarily compelling, Self/less is a smart and well-crafted sci-fi thriller.

This simple google search locating key players in the story tells you heaps about the thoughtful writing here.
Anyways, I saw this movie already when it was still called Seconds (http://trakt.tv/movies/seconds-1966)... Instead of exploring the theme like any good sci-fi thriller would do we get stuck with bland action scenes. It's all cookiecutter resulting in a boring and predictable movie. There are also a plethora of plotholes to nag at.
Those expecting at least vibrant direction by Tarsem will also be disappointed.
SelfLess is a fair movie with some practical action, not that over the top CGI mega action, with a sci-fi background. It´s not trying to be anything else.
Wow, I wasn't sure what to expect with this movie. But glad that I got around to watching it. Great plot line, superb acting, and overall well thought out story.
Quite enjoyable. Well worth watching.
Well.. like a rollercoaster. Started slow, went up and downhill. Also was pretty foreseen ending. But to my own surprise it got me pretty hard at the end.
Disappointment in the fact that the movie says sci-fi when the events say action flick is enough spoiler for anyone to know where this is going..
To enter this movie with an idea that you're going to have your entire worldview of what immortality could mean is going to be left.....untouched without a thought.
Self/less offers itself to be viewed as a question of what can happen when a person is given a chance to live a new life again, only to discover that said life was in fact taken from someone else. To this comes the question of what could run inside the head of the individual who nows has to face the bold question of "Should I confront the reality or sink in to the bliss that I've paid for?".
The movie though already has an answer, and what should've been an introspection on the question of what immortality is worth ends up being a question of whether the viewer could find worth in having spent about 2 hours on a rather simple action flick, just that the premise sounds so intriguiging.
My answer as that said viewer?
Check it out if you don't have anything else to do, I found the time spent fun albeit not of the stimulating kind.
Great Movie great story line.
Plutôt pas mal, noté en cours de film, j'attend le rebondissement.
Another movie whose whole premise is only possible due to the lack of health care in the US. The rest is boring and predictable. Very shallow villain that is only evil because the script said so, absolutely no depth.
Don't watch, you miss nothing!
I enjoyed it! It had an interesting sci-fi concept and it's a decent action/thriller! Also I appreciated the lack of CGI fireworks as I prefer more hard and thoughtful sci-fi movies - "Selfless" delivered!
I agree with the negative comments, predictable as hell and lost in some boring storytelling. Sad, since the idea had so much more to offer. Dissapointed.
Dissapointing and very cliched scifi thriller...
I really had the feeling throughout the movie that i've seen this on another film. Enjoyable flick, the ending was good.
not bad . but the end is good
boring and really predictable movie.
