Prepare yourself for an exciting journey back in time: to the Middle Ages, to the land of the Capetians and Plantagenets
Stéphane Bern goes to the discovery of a great queen of the Middle Ages: Eleanor of Aquitaine. Queen of France at 15, thanks to her marriage to King Louis VII, she became Queen of England at 30, on the arm of Henry II Plantagenet. A visionary and political strategist, she negotiated, dealt with and armed the arms of her sons to keep the throne of England, as well as her beloved Aquitaine. For Richard the Lionheart, her favourite son, she even assumed the regency of the Empire, single-handedly quelling all rebellions. On both sides of the Channel, heritage treasures still vibrate with her history. Stéphane Bern visits the Palace of Westminster, which Eleanor had rebuilt, the radiant Westminster Abbey, where she was crowned, and the spectacular Dover Castle.
