Some of its meta qualities are good.
I think this does the whole requel, cynical reboot thing a little better than The Matrix Resurrections, mostly because it doesn’t attempt to trigger the nostalgia button at every turn.
But the new characters are boring, the acting and dialogue are really bad, it’s extremely predictable (you know 10 seconds ahead of time where and when Ghostface is going to appear, every single time. And you can pretty much guess who Ghostface is after everyone’s introduction scene), and the filmmaking is too basic and uninspired.
4/10
Not a sequel, not a reboot, but a wonderful tribute to the franchise that we all fell in love with so many years ago.
My least favorite of the franchise. It had some good kills and funny bits, but not enough of the cast died and the reveal and motive were beyond lackluster. I cannot believe they killed Dewey. For doing that, I felt the killer should have been Sidney herself. Meh.
features some real nasty kills.
maybe three laughs
a lot of real bad dialogue.
a bunch of forgetful characters, I couldn't care less about.
pretty much a predictable ending
the 'main star' has less acting abilities than a mouldy potato! I spent the whole movie hoping she'd get killed next.
Only Jenna Ortega stood out as a one to watch
wow the hospital was almost empty when he attacks her just a dead Policeman, no staff no doctors...
so brilliant :joy::joy:
Jesus Christ, this movie was trying to be meta but talk about how meta it is. Uggggh. Fucking terrible
2 hours for 2 minutes of fun near the ending which quickly turned to cringe
typical modern reboot/sequel
Sad to note that a small girl overpowered some of the biggest men in the movie
absolute PC nonsense
Note also that a reasonably big male ex-cop was killed but small women survive
ends with 5 women alive and all men dead
A bloody fun time! Making a decent reboot/sequel to one of the best horror franchise is a difficult task and I had my doubts but I can happily say that we got another great Scream film. It's so unapologetically self-aware and funny with some excellent commentary on modern Hollywood and fandom toxicity, everything flows extremely well, the kills are more brutal, and I enjoyed much of the the new cast and their chemistry as well as the legacy ones. It clearly met the expectations and overall a great addition to the franchise. Go see it in theaters!
When I saw the trailer I thought "what the hell, we don't need another Scream movie."
When I saw the reviews and ratings I thought "what the hell, it can't be that good of a Scream movie."
When I saw the movie I thought "why the hell am I watching this?"
Don't waste your time and money.
We didn't need this.
Go watch the original instead.
I know this movie is just an ordinary movie about a serial killer but I can’t help to be disturbed about some disturbing unrealistic and naive situations:
- Why does it take so long before the cops arrived at the sherrif’s house?
- When Deawey and Sam went to the hospital, it was daylight, when they arrived it was dark and when the cops arrived to collect the bodies it was morning wtf?
- How could Amber survive 5 bullets without any injuries?
- How can she be so extremely powerfull when fighting Dewey?
- Chad refused to get upstairs to have sex during the party in a house full of people, but 5 minutes later he just walks alone to the bushes to find his girlfriend? That doesn’t make any sense
I’m not the person that watches every detail in a movie but it was too much to ignore in this movie. But pure for entertainment it was ok
how can people give it 7 stars? this is max 5 star movie..the acting is so damn bad
It's Sunday morning I am bored out of my mind. Hey, let me watch a shitty movie. Scream! It did not disappoint. I think this is the end of hollywood. DO NOT WASTE YOUR PRECIOUS MINUTES OF LIFE WATCHING THIS CRAP.
The storyline = dumb
Acting = Horrendous!
:heart:x5
This felt like a poor mimeograph of the original. I can appreciate what they were trying to do, I just don't think they pulled it off.
How I rate:
1-3  = seriously! don't waste your time
4-6  = you may or may not enjoy this
7-8  = I expect you will like this too
9-10  = movies and TV shows I really love!
Dewey shot Amber 4 times. How did she survive that and still make a lot of kills at the party?
Should have just called it Scream 8
I really enjoyed this film! It’s a requel and although some bits were highly predictable and I guessed the killers from the start it was good fun and was a great tribute to the original
This movie was an excellent requel to the original!
• New cast was great! The twins were underused but funny and Mindy’s monologue about requels was hilarious! I hope they are back for the sequel.
• Jenna Ortega was the standout from the start with her elevated horror and her screaming “fuck” at the caller. She’s a scream queen in the making!
• The kills in the movie were so good and brutal!
• Judy and Wes deaths were greatly executed. The fakeouts for the Wes kill were intense and capped off with my favourite kill of the movie!
• The original cast were kinda underused but well-placed in the story. Dewey dying after surviving so much shit over the last 4 made me sad.
• The reveals were kinda predictable but the ending still works with the commentary on toxic fandom.
• I honestly thought there will be 3 killers this time. I went with Amber and the twins because I thought they wouldn’t try to do the boyfriend twist again.
Another great entry to the Scream series! The movie had some really good jokes in it and the kills were well done. The directors really understood what made Scream great and did their own thing while respecting the series. If there’s a sequel, they have to be back!
It has an ironic beginning that raises the evolution of viewers in the perception of scary movies, now more in line with "elevated horror" films. Although this reflection is soon forgotten in a film that no longer uses horror movies as a reference, but feeds back by quoting its predecessors, which is limited and frankly boring. It gives the impression that this "recuel" returns to the origin, but only to erase it.
[Note: these are my immediate, off-the-cuff thoughts around half an hour after watching at the cinema]
Overall, this was a really fun time at the cinema.
However, if Sam is the person Sidney is passing the torch onto (I'm assuming - that's the vibe I got), they need to figure some stuff out because she definitely does not measure up to the legacy that has been left to her (again: assuming). In particular, I didn't believe any of her emotional scenes. I couldn't see past it being an actress delivering her lines.
I hated the killers. That entire final showdown scene was terrible.; they just reached a point where the writing was just silly. I can't believe those 2 idiots get to go down as the ones to have finally killed Dewey.
Hm... sitting and thinking about it, I'm not even sure if I'm that crazy about the general premise behind the movie. The motive of the killings. Maybe there's potential with the idea, but it could have been executed better
Oh, also, if this is the "passing of the torch" to a new generation, this was not a good send-off for Sidney or Gale. At least Dewey - as sad as his death was for someone who loves the franchise - got an awesome death. Even if it had to be done by the aforementioned idiots...
Some good stuff to end on: great, as always, to see our main trio back. Especially Sidney. The Billy Loomis cameo was an exciting surprise (although, in my opinion, they may have shown Sam seeing the vision of him one too many times). Jenna Ortega was fantastic; especially in the opening scene. I really liked Mindy Meeks-Martin and think she is a worthy successor of the "Randy" role. I really loved how Ghostface looked, how he moved, how they shot him, and there were some great kills.
The more I think of the ending, the more I want to rate it lower... so I'm going to end this now. I really did have a fun time watching, but this has definitely gone right down to the bottom of my Scream movie tier list.
after watching the 4 Wes Craven's Screams this was just a pile of crap....
wow hughie what happened to you
the ghost face killers have been getting knocked on their asses by small female characters since the original, if you're whining about this then you're a moron.
anyway, great for a requel/legacy sequel/whatever these are called. it's honestly the first time i've heard someone define the genre since i live under a rock and it's fitting that scream got to be the one to tell me about it. i think wes craven would've liked it, too.
I have seen a lot of terrible movies but this was one of the worst I've ever seen. Just straight up trash. Don't believe a single person that says that this was good. The killers are obvious right away and for a movie set in a world where this has happened over and over again and everyone knows the rules of horror movies why are they all so damn stupid. Worst movie of the franchise and worst movie I've seen in a while.
This movie breaks the pace way too much and I don't know why. When there is a peak they break into a monologue making a really awful experience. I didn't have any expectations but somehow it managed to disappoint me
“Well, maybe you're the killer. Because that cut deep.”
Scream (2022) takes the meta, “requel” approach that seems to be getting popular in modern franchise movies. For those who don’t know; “requel” basically means when a movie revisits sections from an earlier film, for example, a well-known movie franchise, but is technically not a remake. However, I feel this trend will eventually be tired out, but I feel it makes more sense with the ‘Scream’ franchise with its commentary.
So, this movie brings in the new but also brings back the old to the series. The legacy characters make a return and are well respected. Neve Campbell isn’t featured as much this time around, which means she’s not the focus of the story. Campbells and Courteney Cox
have a great team-up scene that was a personal highlight for me. Campbell also has the best line in the whole movie during the climax, “Enjoy that torch”.
The new cast of characters was fine, and the performance was all decent. David Arquette was surprisingly the standout here, as out of the cast he delivered the most memorable performance in the movie. Jenna Ortega was also great in this, especially with the dramatic scenes. I liked how this approached toxic fan-base, with the stimulus being the ‘Stab’ movies within the Scream universe, in terms of how the franchise has evolved and how “woke” it got because when you try to criticize how meta it is, you’re only proving the film's point. I think we are all familiar with toxic fan bases, so this was satisfying to watch.
If I must be honest, I’m a bit unenthusiastic about this one. I don’t know why, but maybe it’s just that I didn’t get much out of this one. While I can recognize there are good elements on the screen, and yet I felt nothing towards it. Of course, there’s going to be another one, and I just hope that it does something a lot fresher rather than walk on familiar ground, in terms of structure.
Overall rating: Should’ve been called 5cream.
"Not quite a reboot, not quite a sequel, like the new Halloween, Saw, Terminator, Jurassic Park, Ghostbusters, fuck, even Star Wars. It always, always goes back to the original!"
After rewatching the Scream movies last year, I can say that this felt like a worthy tribute. There are a few things I didn't care for but for the most part I enjoyed going back to this world and the cinematography and gore made it worth it.
Much of nothing. None of the characters have any expressions, they think saying fuck and shit is the best acting. There's five women characters and they all look the same and retarded.
Why do requals always have characters I truly don't care about? Original movies seem to develop characters as people you have vested interest in seeing where they end up. In this movie I ended up not minding when ghostface killed someone.
Better than a lot of stuff out though, just wish they outlined more horror movie cliches and actually tried avoiding them rather than simply playing into the cliches of the original movie.
A sequel to the Scream series, which became one of the most famous horror films of the late 90s, after the untimely departure of its director after 11 years, it is a sequel made to continue its legacy, with its structure very faithful to its own essence, with its wonderful references to all horror cinema and a combination of suspense. The new Scream sequel, as it was adjusted very well compared to the sequel, came out as my favorite production after the first movie in the series, and I was quite surprised by what it could do.
In a nutshell, Scream presents us with an average horror movie, with an astonishing level of horror, devotion to its core, and references. While I think that Scream lovers will leave the movie very satisfied and get a taste of No Way Home from the movie, I think that a normal horror movie viewer will be very curious about the series after this movie. It is quite worth seeing.
Not sure about this, I felt like they could have done way better. The ghostface is still a clumsy boy. In none of the movies, the reveals of the killer(s) never felt possible in the way ghostface acted compared to the actual killers. Not talking about the powers ghostface have and how tall he is. This is never gonna work if they keep using a separate actor for him. And they still leave ghostface and run when he is down, they even go back after again "shoot him in the head" like in the terrible car scene of the second movie.
So... a little skinny girl kills Dewey and stands tall like a 6 foot dude. And I'm supposed to suspend disbelief for how long? Pathetic! Will not be watching again any time soon.
I just have many questions after seeing this. Why was this made? Was it supposed to be a parody? Ist the mask magic (it makes you have superpowers and if I'm not mistaken even makes the person taller). Landline? Do they really had a landline? Did the killer really had to be that obvious? No surprise at all. It was nice to see Courtney Cox again in a movie, but that's about it for me. If this was the first movie in the series, I would say it was quite ok, but 5th (or whichever), its just nothing new
"Stop! Fucking up! My! Ending!"
It has been awhile since I've seen any of the Scream films but man I'm dying to rewatch. Scream is up there with my favorite horror franchises and will be there for a long long time because with this team that will be back for 6th one it hopefully will be even half as fun as this one and we'll be back for a great ride!
Anyway Scream 5 hits all the notes a Scream film should have. It follows its own rules. It mentions loads of horror movies, has loads of references, great stabbings and legacy characters. I love that they poke fun at "requels" and fandom and "elevated" horror.
Loved Mikey Madison as one of the killers and Jasmin Savoy Brown stole the show as the "film-geek" for me. Seeing Neve Campbell return to her franchise is always great and each time I see Courteney Cox she looks even worse. Anyway I wish David Arquette pumped out some wrestling moves to Ghostface but you can't have everything you want.
Ps. Tara I also love the Babadook!
The first film in 1996 was enough - A showcase for some talented performers
I think they did a good job with this one, wasn’t has predictable, lot more action and lots of nostalgia from the films before especially the first and good cast and nice to see old faces, definitely better that 2,3 &4
"Reddit radicalized me" - Amber. The requel scene was accurate.
I was really scared about this one sucking really bad, but honestly early reaction is that it's one of my favorites of the franchise. Just like the first two, it subverts expectations and puts a twist in some of the rules that the movies have created in the first 4 (I'm still shocked that the first victim actually survived) without being disrespectful to Wes (which a lot of these "requels" can be accused of being , something that the movie smartly addresses at the end). all in all great fun
Act III goes crazy. Fantastic.
The movie is surprisedly good, I really like how it is a reboot and not a reboot at the same time. The way they connected it with the last movies was amazing.
The funniest:
What, I wanna be prepared :joy: :joy: :joy:
The saddest:
It is an honor :cry::cry::cry:
Definitely my least favorite in the franchise. The cast feels a bit crowded and because of that characters like Sydney barely get any story. Too much nostalgia, fan service and similarities with the other movies (especially the first) the third act felt like a remake of the original. I rolled my eyes a few times which is something that never happened with 1 through 4.
Among the things that redeem it is the killer opening, Jenna Ortega absolutely nailed it and the chase was among the best in the franchise. The kills are brutal. Lots of familiar faces but somehow when the trinity arrived it felt out of place, it changed the tone and feels kinda jarring at first. Still, the Gale and Dewey storyline was the best in the movie even though we don't get much of it. Mikey Madison really surprised me, I loved her performance I want to see her in more stuff. Melissa Barrera is not an actress I like, she keeps doing these weird facial expression, I just can't take her seriously. Not my favorite character either and the sympathetic phantom Billy stuff is weird, gives Ghost Whisperer vibes which is not something you want in a Scream movie.
While Scream is the least interesting in the franchise for me, it still delivers it's fair share of stabbings and thrills. Still very hyped for Scream 6, which looks like a breath of fresh air, exactly what the franchise needs at this point!
"I'm Sydney fucking Prescott, of course I have a gun."
"Watch your tone, new girl."
I cannot recommend watching this. It was pretty okay until 20 minutes til the end. The rest was so boring and senseless. Yes, it's a slasher movie and there is a lot of blood., but it's still boring.
After a stint on television Scream returns to theatres; though it’s less a movie than a commentary on requels and “toxic fandom.” When her sister is attacked by Ghostface, Sam returns to Woodsboro and seeks the help of retired sheriff Dewey Riley. The writers go out of their way to make the new characters related to the original ones, and more or less serve as stand-ins for them; inviting a comparison in which they come up lacking. Still, the commentary that’s being made about requels is fairly clever and uses the series mythology rather well. Additionally, the kills are intense and more violent than ever; a little too much so at times. Also, taking shots at “toxic fandom” is rather petty and reflects Hollywood’s elitism. Yet for all its flaws, Scream honors what Wes Craven and Kevin Williamson began and delivers some frightening scares.
Man...oh man. I can never describe enough how much I love and miss Craven. For me this movie is just not the real deal, I would even say that is a most pure joke of the saga.
I was just totally on the hype of people saying how much they've loved and when I saw it was just disappointment and anger.
I swear that when the script talked about honoring the movies, putting too many jokes in it, not connecting the characters with the viewers, putting the most untalented no face expression girl, to be the main character and killing you know who...I THOUGHT THIS WAS A MOVIE INSIDE A MOVIE(like Stab 9), AND UNTIL THE LAST MOMENT I WAS WAITING FOR THE REVEAL.
And just let me say that, if there is a thing that this movie is not, IS A TRIBUTE. A TRIBUTE IS NOT about showing an old character, connecting the news ones with the old or putting some props that was used in the first movie but instead of that is to continue to do what you've been doing so far, closing with a golden key. But it's hard to do that without the master Mind behind it.
For me, beside the killings, this movie made me cry and be mad but not for the good reasons.
how the hell did they make this so good? i was expecting a shit show but damn.
Nothing new this part brings the film is like a copier like the previous parts. The killers will be discovered by everyone at the very beginning of the film. Big disappointment.
what a terrible movie. I hope they dont bring anymore stupid sequels now.
ALL cant act not even the guy from the boys lol wtf?
the whole vipe is wrong chainsaw was at least watchable this is not did skkip some parts
Predictable story, ordinary gore when compared to halloween movies. They said it was requel, pfftt...
This movie should be called Monologue
Is this movie parody that earned 100m in box office?!
I was missing to watch a good slasher movie! No more of the same! Cliché isn't the problem, but how this is done! Scream 5 exceeded my expectations! As good as the original! Rate 8 for this!
As forgettable as every other Scream passed the first... not to say you won't enjoy it as much as you did the other Scream films.
The story even seems jaded with itself.
Without spoilers, we'll say the original players act more like coming out of "retirement" is a nuisance instead of what the viewer is supposed to interpret as a responsibility.
I kept comparing it to the first movie and I actually had a lot of fun. Even the campy moments I laughed so loud.
I'm not a big fan of horror movies, but this one has everything I dislike the most. It doesn't make any sense.
I remember renting with my older brother "Scream" When I was 7 because my parents not really controlled what I watch. The movie had just come out, and It was a smashing hit. Everybody was talking about it.
I obviously couldn't get mos of the movie, but I was really impressed. Jason and Freddie were not that of a thing in the late 90s and seeing ghost face really made a mark on me. I got a ghost face costume for carnival that year (we dress up in that time of year in Brazil) with a slip-in- blade plastic knife. My friends And I would play hide-and-seek with one of us dressed up as Ghost face, and you should stab when finding someone. It was kinda twisted looking back, but we're kids, we had no clue.
The point being, I've been watching this franchise since my early years, and have revisited this movies several times during my life, watched most of them in the theaters after the first one and followed all the Wes Craven movies because of this franchise.
Coming back to this movie, I was not expecting much since it was not Wes critique of scary movies as it was before, but other people looking into his work and creating a "requel" as they call it. I'm happy to say I've screamed, jumped, laughed and clapped during this movie and was really happy with the final result. I even allowed a second of tears for a beloved character who saw an end in this movie, And I'm glad to say that in an era of reboots, unnecessary sequels - I'm talking to you Matrix 4 - this one is a fresh script and great addition to the source material.
I think this was the first Scream movie where I rooted for Ghostface!! The new kids were all dicks!!!
Those kill scenes were awesome. I was rooting for Ghost-face all along. Everything in between the kills are bad acting and cringe dialogue. I spent my time in between kills following the Russia vs. Ukraine theatrical movie on Twitter .
omg that's really a good sequel, i loved it
aaand thats how u make good sequel, u see even if it is 2022 u can make good sequel if u put all the lets name it "bullshit" away'
A good addition to the scream movies. Was great seeing all the "legacy" characters and Jack Quaid was a definite stand out for me :clap_tone1:
Hmm, not gonna lie and say this was an amazing movie but it was a good tribute to the franchise. Had some fun kills aswel!
Pretty good overall and despite a few notable misteps it's still the third-best Scream film.
Also as a massive fan of The Boys, it was very cool seeing Jack Quaid on the big screen in a film that's actually good
The Good: Massively better than the lackluster trailer
The Bad: Maybe a bit TOO meta
The WTF: Did Netflix pay by the namedrop???
Good to see Billy back
"It's always someone you know"
Scream is a genre in itself. Without a doubt, over four decades it has established itself as one of the freshest franchises within the horror genre. Despite being a typical slasher movie, it just uses its typicality as an attribute and tells us everything that is going to happen before it happens, but always leaving an unexpected element to provoke a feeling of satisfaction in the viewer. As they did not tire of repeating within the film, Scream (2022) is a "requel" that meets each of the type's conventions. Without a doubt, the original cast was a success and has been demonstrated in all the films. Neve Campbell is THE undoubted protagonist of the entire saga and continues to be so in this latest film, and together with Courtney Cox and David Arquette they make up the trio that appeals to the nostalgia that, according to the film itself, every requel needs. However, the weak point is in the new faces, neither Jenna Ortega nor Melissa Barrera have enough charm and strength to sustain the story and I can't imagine a continuation in which they are now the protagonists. Without a doubt, the saga must end here. Special mention for the tribute to Wes Craven that is moving and quite appropriate, both within the film and in the end credits.
Now we know this is a requel. An homage to the old saga and an attempt to start a new one. Both are very good and miss the great “mark”. The lead of the new generation is missing charisma and the old ones are only passing by. Death sequences, scares, killers and twist are great but fail to bring some new. But from all the “requel” I saw in last 4 month, this is one of the best, and one of the best in the horror genre.
3 Thoughts After Watching ‘Scream’:
The word “shook” was created solely to describe the way I felt when Billy Loomis showed up.
In this moment, I have zero desire to watch another trailer again. It definitely didn’t ruin the movie, but it absolutely annihilated some stellar reaction potential — especially with character deaths and the incredible reveal of which house they were actually partying in.
All-in-all, I loved it! It’s a Scream movie through and through. Fan candy galore. But when I first walked out, I was wading in waters of disappointment. Because I wanted more Sidney. More Gale. I didn’t want a new lead character being the badass with attempts at iconic one-liners. BUT… then appreciation sunk in. The appreciation that the spotlight needs to shift. That franchises are destroyed by milking characters for whatever they’re worth. And, the truth is, this has probably been the best supporting cast since the original. Seeing our surviving legacy cast finally move on is the best way to honor them.
Bonus Thought: There’s one word in this film that I absolutely LIVED for… “Trap.”
Ok, first the good, this has some of the best kills in the franchise and you can really feel that Radio Silence are having fun with being mean. The film also comes to life when we are spending time with the original characters, worth it for these things alone.
The problems come into play (like most legacy sequels) when we get to the new characters who are mostly bores (outside of Jenny Ortega). The writing doesn’t really work that well either, yes, this is a Scream movie so of course meta discussion is to be expected but everything else is meta these days so your shit better be sharp and have a bit more to say about the genre, this and the killer motivations are very on the nose. Although it should really hit with the film Twitter critic crowd.
Some fun kills but the killer was extremely obvious They literally looked like they knew each other from that very first hospital scene they were in....i was sus from the jump and the ending was hilarious but not in a good way.
One of the worst movies I’ve ever forced myself to sit through.
I got two words for you... Jump-Scares. Good movie, it's Not even close to being scary, barely calling it's a horror movie is a laugh on its own. If you're looking for a true scary horror movie, look elsewhere, other than that, fans of the Scream series do yourself a favor and watch this film!
Much better than I was expecting. Good twists and kill scenes. Worth a watch :ok_hand_tone1:
It has its flaws, but I have never not liked a Scream film, and this continues that tradition. The entire movie felt like an ongoing commentary, and that worked for me.
The Scream requel thinks it's meta, but it's just meta-nother cliché.
The original Scream deconstructed horror tropes and this just went about reconstructing all of them.
Overall I really enjoyed this, especially cuz Scream is my fave horror franchise and there was just SO MUCH LOVE for the films in this one!! The OG trio were perfect as always, I loved a lot of the new chars but mostly Mindy, Richie and Tara (Mindy is a perfect Randy 2.0, forever in our hearts Randy!), but the 'twists' were all kinda predictable and the killer reveal let me down... But tbh the journey was great and the cast were excellent, especially a certain surprise guest who had me physically SHOOK. Also Kirby!!!!!! Having that confirmation as a little easter egg was one of my favourite things!!
This was an enjoyable sequel with some predictable moments. With some brutal kills and I did hold on to my seat and jump once I admit. Even though some critic reviews said the movie wasn’t scary at all.
When the trailers dropped everyone said they were brilliantly misleading about who would die. Despite showing many attacks in the trailer. They unfortunately made one death way too obvious.
Early on in the movie I was able to predict who was a killer though and I was right. Which is some-what disappointing and I did leave wishing there was more surprises.
I can’t say I still didn’t leave thinking I just watched one of the better Scream sequels. Part 4 was held back by some pretty goofy moments. Like, silly kill scenes and Anthony Anderson over-acting during his death scene. There’s nothing goofy about the brutal kills in the movie. Which is a plus.
It is also a plus that the casting of the new characters was pretty good. Definitely better than some of the casting of new blood in Scream 3. Melissa Barrera (In the Heights) and Jenna Ortega (Stuck in the Middle, You) are especially good as sisters.
If they don't kill off Courtney Cox so I never have to see her in another Scream sequel, I'm gonna be pissed. LOL Scream is the only thing keeping Cox's and Campbell's careers alive... Lets get rid of Campbell too please. David can stay!
This was way more fun that I expected. A really clever script. Loved all the meta moments.
It was not too bad but just your average Scream movie. After two decades the Ghostface killer is just not scary anymore. A bunch of „Scary Movies“ didn‘t help here either. Still it was nice to see the legacy cast again and that the film doesn‘t take itself too seriously.
Having binged all of the Screams this weekend, I think this definitely stands up there with the quality of the originals. As a franchise, I feel Scream has stayed at a consistent 7/10 throughout and this one is no different. As an A24 and Neon stan, I enjoyed the shade thrown at contemporary "elevated horrors", and the new rules given to "re-quels" were fitting and fun to watch be explored.
Fun new entry, will be interesting to see where they take the franchise if they become a semi-regular feature again.
Wasn't sure what to expect out of this one. Solid first two acts and an absolutely phenomenal third act. For fans of this meta shit that don't snob up during some blatantly silly/unexplained aspects this was great nostalgia mixed w the new gen. Generous 7.7 overall
As for the 10-year break, it is ok. New blood breathed "life" as before. Though Ghostface could be less obvious. ;)
"They're making a Requel!... Or a Legacyquel fans are torn on the terminology... To some people the original is their favorite thing in the world. The movie that made them live horror; and God help anyone who slightly fucked with that situation memory. You can't just reboot a franchise from scratch anymore. The fans won't stand for it. That shit doesn't work, but you can't just do a straight sequel either. You got to build something new. Not too new or the internet good bug-fucking nuts. It's got to be part of an on going story line, even if the story shouldn't have been ongoing in the first place. New main characters, but supported by and related to legacy characters. Not quite a reboot, not quite a sequel. It always goes back to the original."
Taking a stab at elevated horror, reboots, and fandom; I'm not sure I have to say much more than I'm glad it didn't pretend the other sequels don't exist and give us an updated story all these years later continuation.:person_shrugging_tone3:
https://boxd.it/2EnymH
Felt like i just rewatched the first show but just with a new cast. The gore was not bad but it was too much for me coz i just can't stomach the slightest gore. some parts just doesn't make sense to me, some die with a few stabs and then those who got stabbed a million times made it (for e.g Chad) Kinda didn't make sense to me, feels like the writer is showing favoritism to some characters OR he doesn't know who he wants dead or alive.
It's not bad i guess but plot wise it's not that great
It was definitely a fan service movie but I had a good time with it.
this is such a fun movie and was such a good way to bring back the franchise. melissa barrera is amazing, i adored mikey madison so so much, dylan minnette is always a favorite of mine as is jack quaid. its a fun way back to the genre and still plays so well on tropes. sometimes a little heavy handed, but thats typical of the series. losing dewey was emotional but im glad they took the risk to take out a legacy character.
Double meta discussion gets old fast. Somewhat redeemed by some brutal slasher fun.
Not bad. I was concerned that this was just a cash grab, and it was, but it was saved by the talented young cast and the appearance of the original cast members.
Sid is bored, I'm literally not.
i enjoy every moment in this movie ! Love it !
I mentioned in my 'Scream 4' review (which I think I've heavily underrated; I'm going to rewatch 1-4 again) that I was super skeptical about SCREAM continuing without Wes - the absolute cinema icon - but I made sure to go into this with no predetermined feelings, I promise.
While I'm delighted the 'requel', as the film calls itself, is dedicated to Wes (which I honestly do believe) and centres around meta-commentary on fandom of the SCREAM films I just still can't help but feel this new crew kinda missed the point, or at least the magic, of the meta-commentary of the originals. The originals all had a point to their meta but this one went the Deadpool-route and just decides to laugh at itself for being a requel and even for just being a movie, and I ended up hating the shit out of it.
Even though it's entirely believable that this was made by fans it still feels kinda disrespectful to what is a fantastic franchise, and feels even moreso when it ends with "For Wes".
I love the last kills
I thought that was an
Amazing tribute to
"The Master Wes Craven"
using the character
"Wes Hicks" in this movie
to do it.
That was so clever
and I really really
Really beautiful thing
to do, and to have
"WES"
hanging in big letters
Well that filled my heart
with joy,
Now that's Respect.
THANK-YOU TO
THE MASTER OF HORROR
THAT IS
WES CRAVEN
1939-2015
I thought this was actually a good come back film. It was definitely more serious and not as goofy as the previous movies. Anyways I’m curious to see where the new generation of these movies go from here.
A really fun classic horror movie. Doesn't take itself too serious and that pays off big time.
Much like how 4 was a quality reboot, this is a quality reboot. 4 sticks more to similar tone to the originals and then stands on its own in the plot. This one feels different than the others (no Craven involved), but calls all sorts of Easter eggs to let the nostalgia hit. It’s an inverted reboot from what was tried with 4, and it is damn solid. I wouldn’t fault anyone for preferring either/or compared to each other.
Rating: 4/5 - 8.5/10 - Would Recommend
Scream for the new generations. It introduces everything trendy on today's teen series, and it also shows gorier murders.
Scream has always been a parody, but even under those premises this movie has some things that are much more far-fetched than the norm.
And not to mention the unnecessary death of THAT person.
But hey, it's always nice to see that the saga hasn't died.

It was fun to watch, great kills! when Sidney said: I'm Sidney fucking Prescott, of course I have a gun! I almost get up from the sofa and yell: HELL YEAH! YOU ARE! (ok it's a bit to exaggerated, but she's my ultimate final girl)
BUT my nostalgia gave a boost for my rating... the movie was "too meta" for me at a point that it remembered me of Matrix 4 attempt to look cool criticizing sequels.
Now... there is ONE THING that it's impossible to me to believe: that little teenage girl, who is one of the killers, can tackle adults and have the strength to almost lift Dewey off the ground with a knife?!?! Oh... sorry, I don't buy it .
