I am a huge fan of both graphic novel and this movie. They are both unique, funny and visiualy pleasing. Scott Pilgrim VS the World may just be one of my most rewathed movies.
One of my most favorite movies period. I'm in lesbians with it.
omg loved it so much! so funny and at the same time the fights were so epic!
Such a fun movie. The cast is stacked, the music is great, the visuals and editing style are amazing. There's nothing quite like this.
Visually stunning and a soundtrack that is just absolutely sublime.
Suspend all disbelief, crank the volume to eleven and enjoy the ride.
This film made me realize that I have this incredible ability of falling in love with fictional characters in the first 30 seconds they're on screen
Like, Jesus Christ, Ramona Flowers is the ultimate crush.
And also, the soundtrack is absolute fire!
No one would say it's not fun (double negative as intended), cause hell yea it was a freakin good time! Great editing with CGI perfection to say the least, some of the jokes were kinda awkward but most of them were mighty good laughs. Now the unfortunate thing is this: it's still just a teeny movie. this movie sure as hell have the potential to bring so much depth and so much more, and also promote this culture to different generations of people as well. As a gamer / geeky person, and not a very long time ago a gamer / geeky teen, it's just sad to say I'm pretty sure WE are the only people to be able to get hype with this movie.
One of the strangest, weirdest movies I've seen. It does have a certain charm, but the overall style didn't do it for me. Visually striking, absolutely. It'll stick with me for a bit. But the core story and humor didn't always work for me. Glimpses of brilliance, but not enough to stay the course. 2.5/5
Honestly, I started to see the movie and the strange medium, plus a unique stranger! I arrived in a part where I started an understanding and the film caught me in an incredible way, undoubtedly one of the most exciting I have ever seen. Who has not seen yet do not miss a chance, will fall in love with him!
Knives is just too cool for Scott anyway.
Scott Pilgrim vs. the World is one of a kind adaptation of a graphic novel that is quirky, funny, surreal, and tons of douchebag characters.
Don’t hate me...but, I don’t get it? I really didn’t like it :grimacing:
Am I the only one that would have chose Knives over Ramona?
All too often going back to movies you remember liking is a dispiriting exercise. To my delight, I discovered this movie if anything improved with the passage of time. Not only is it a heartwarming exploration of young relationships but it's very funny and hugely visually inventive. Reminds me of Repo Man in some ways... and it is set in one of my hometowns, Toronto, which often stands in for other places but rarely gets to actually be itself. Baffling that it did not turn into a commercial success...
Scott Pilgrim vs. the World is crazy fun. This movie had been on my watchlist for a long time so finally today while looking on Netflix I decided to watch it. I was very surprised how much I loved it. It’s a non- stop fun and action packed movie. The plot is great it’s simple but it just works. The acting is good and the cast is packed. The characters are all like able and memorable. It’s directed very well by Edgar Wright. He is such an interesting director and he puts in a lot of passion is this movie like in all of his. The cinematography and editing style is amazing. It’s like watching a video game. The action is awesome and the comedy is top- notch. The jokes are all great. The music in it fits well. I can definitely see why people don’t like this movie but it’s so crazy and over the top. Overall it’s a crazy fun and over the top action packed movie that’s unforgettable.
( 8 out of 10)
All-star cast. Captain America and Captain Marvel. Plus more. Spectacular!! PS - you got Superman as well.
Scott Pilgrim vs. the World is one of the most clever and creative films in recent years. Director Edgar Wright brilliantly mixes comic book and video game storytelling and aesthetics for a uniquely creative film. Based on the cult comic, punk rocker Scott Pilgrim must face The League of 7 Evil Exes in order to date the girl of his dreams. The cast is spectacular and includes Michael Cera, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Anna Kendrick, Kieran Culkin, and Alison Pill; all of whom give great performances. While on the surface the story is a fun video game, as Scott advances levels by fighting the Exes, it’s also a coming of age tale dealing with Scott’s transition into adulthood. Presenting a unique and creative vision, Scott Pilgrim vs. the World is a smart and entertaining film.
the Chinese girl is way better than MEW :-D
Watched on Friday with Kel and B. I liked this. It's weird though... Scott is really not much of a likeable character. I constantly questioned why any of the other characters liked him at all: he's a self-absorbed whiney dick...
And being the father of a 17 y.o., I was pretty pissed that they only joked about how this 23 y.o. dude was dating a high schooler.
That all said, the supporting characters, the humor, and some of the 8-bit nostalgia pushed this up a bit. Altogether a fun movie if you can get past the title character.
loved it's making...
I loved it's technical side...
editing... transitions we're awesome...
Full on '90s video games and comics; if you're nerdy and into that you're gonna LOVE this film!
I could watch this a billion times and not ever be sick of it!
This movie was totally awesomesauce!
A gamers wet dream, come true in movie form.
A visual joyride with great performances, but the narrative never hooked me.
Scott Pilgrim vs. the World - is a masterpiece.
I love this movie, watched countless times, watched different languages and different cuts just to get something new out of it. I remember how i waiting this movie to come out after first time seeing trailer. New nothing about movie and still trailer alone hooked me on. Since then i watch this movie several times in the year still finding something new, some subtle Edgar Wright key movie making stuff. Music, actors, screenwriting and directing made fenomenal movie. This movie is my all time 10 no meter wat. Trying to get novels next and buy ps3 game do get full experience from Scott Piligrim Universe if i can call it like that. Strongly recommend to watch if you like clever movie with good sound track and timeless masterpiece at this point.
10/10
ideologically speaking, this movie sucks and i hate scott but also i love it and there are some great details and it is one of my fav comfort movies
No Vegan Diet! No Vegan Powers!!
My all-time favourite film, and I doubt that'll change. It has a great soundtrack, tons of nerdy references, and somehow manages to be a novel adaptation that's almost as good as the novels themselves!
One of the very few movies that I can watch over and over again.
love this, it's so funny.
Hi Kristin from Trakt, I’m me and I don’t know my birthdate.
At the same time, the film manages to build a unique and creative style in both production and themes, managing to create good comic scenes and a fun rhythm. He also manages to be very embarrassing and rude in many moments, there were moments when I loved watching it, others were dying of embarrassment because of the jokes.
And at the end of it all, I found it to be a really fun experience. I think I would watch it again without hesitation.
I love the comics. And the movie is nice, but when you have the books in mind, it is not as good.
Just watched this after reading Bryan Lee O'malley's Seconds and I'm amazing how great Edgar Wright portraits the feeling of reading comics to the screen. It has so beautiful animations and it feels like I'm reading Bryan Lee's comics!
I am not sure if I'd like the movie dynamic if I haven't read Bryan Lee's comics before, but I really enjoyed how it goes here. The attention to details makes it even greater.
I knew a guy like Scott Pilgrim in college. Likable, witty and talented, but also completely self-absorbed and head-over-heels in love with the idea of being in love. Neither had the patience to maintain a long-term relationship, but that’s not really what they were after, as evidenced by the trail of broken hearts in their wake. For this type, falling in love is about one moment in time, not minding a sustained flame. They’re chasing the spark, that microscopic flutter that accompanies every all-encompassing crush. Eventually, hopefully, they grow out of it and learn that deeper love is about give-and-take, compassion and sacrifice, learning to care about someone else more than you do yourself. I take Scott Pilgrim’s arc like that; a dawning realization that hey, I’m not the only person in the world and hey, it sucks to be discarded by someone you still see as the center of the universe. Not sure if my college buddy ever made the same transition.
At the start of this story, Scott’s a terrible boyfriend. He cheats because he’s too cowardly to break up with his significant other, then moans about the awkward conversations to follow. He’s a walking, talking relationship vortex until he’s swept up in the current of another, more powerful storm. That cyclone is named Ramona Flowers, and her history is so messy she’s tailed by “Seven Evil Exes,” an assortment of bitter former lovers who seek battle with the new guy. Director Edgar Wright, no stranger to offbeat love tales, leaves room for these brawls to get as wild and crazy as they wanna be, with most fights accompanied by a high-tempo tune from Scott’s on-screen garage rock band. It’s all presented with oodles of creativity, a great ongoing soundtrack and a striking, one-of-a-kind retro video game aesthetic, but does sometimes get a bit carried away with so many layers of eccentricity. Michael Cera is well-suited for the leading role, all clumsy and weird, with a shockingly rich cast of name actors present to add extra sound and fury. Still pretty good, but I remembered it being much better.
Todd Ingram still makes me laugh with his vegan powers
"You once were a ve-gone. But now you will be-gone."
Love, music, action, comedy, video games, captivating visuals and a shit ton of editing converge and create something highly entertaining. I can see how it could get exhausting for some but this was totally my jam. Excellent comedy (the vegan and lesbian comedy was peak) and the action sequences are pretty good and creative. I like the idea of a rom-com about battling exes, it feels pretty fresh. The characters are so fun and so many appearances from famous actors before they really got famous. Great acting from everyone. Kieran Culkin is the MVP, couldn't get enough of him. Quite the character difference for Jason Schwartzman which i've only seen in Wes Anderson movies so far, he was hilarious. Very fun third act!
The sfx takes it to a whole new level....
"We are Sex Bob-Omb and we are here to make you think about death and get sad and stuff."
Edgar Wright struck gold with Scott Pilgrim. It has such a unique style and sense of humor mixed with crazy visuals. In a way I guess this was really ahead of its time.
MULTIPLE girls finding michael cera attractive???? sounds super fake but ok
This movie isn't exactly my jam, you know? But hey, I still had fun with it. Some parts were seriously hilarious! But honestly, it's not the kind of flick I'd binge-watch on repeat. The visual effects, though, totally rocked! I'm thinking I should check out the behind-the-scenes and interviews to get a better appreciation, haha.
The style and some of the supporting characters were great, but I did not love the movie.
Theme- 8/10
Rewatchibility- 9.5/10
Acting- 9/10
Kinematography- 10/10
Time- 9.5/10
Total - 46/5 = 9.2
I dont like how I read the comics as a kid and like growing up I would see kids that were around that age reading it. Also apparently the one who wrote the comics wanted scott to be with knives in the movie. Making it all the more cursed.
Wallace is so real <3
Edgard Wright at his nerdiest.
Not my favourite of his, sometimes the editing and style is a bit much for my taste, but it’s entertaining and funny.
I do like that it portrays a neurotic nerd without making him a lovable loser, he’s quite toxic and pretentious (which you don’t see often in movies), but they don’t shove that idea in your face.
I also don’t think the cinematography of this film has aged as well as some of his other films, or that it’s necessarily his funniest, but this is still soars high above the bar for action comedies.
7/10
Watching this for the first time in years since ifs released and as an adult it is so fun to watch and be aware of all the things it’s poking fun at
The most creative movie I’ve seen, impressive BUT the plot end humour just didn’t work for me. Surprised to be in the minority, the older comedy movies used to be more absurd so no wonder the young me didn’t like it
A creative sandbox filled with ingenious edits, smooth transitions and comic book visuals all of which is boosted through the use of a solid soundtrack.
The story itself, while good fun and unique was fairly weak and found myself enjoying everything else more so than the plot.
7/10 - Good film, one that I'll happily watch again
The visual gags Edgar Wright whips up is genius.
WHAT. THE. FUCK Did I just watch
It has video game things, video game fights, the movie has been curious
I chat about this movie in this video:
bingeing stranger things, queer love, corrupt superheroes :sparkles: What I'm watching in June :rainbow: https://youtu.be/IHdOZWP_ki4
This movie is a blast and it the music kicks a**! I guess if you're a jock who only listens to rap why you'd hate it, though.
Amazing movie, I love it
I debated writing a whole thing about this. There's some good performances & some cool shots I guess but I just can't with this film.
This whole thing just feels incredibly dated. From the basic romance plot to the never ending barrage of nothing special effects. Fuckton of references just to be references feels like incredibly basic pandering, for every line I enjoyed there were three lines that made me cringe. Also expected Scott to be way worse of a person but he's just a kind of normal bad, which makes him just so boring to me to watch.
The bicurious scene makes me want to die, unironic hello fellow gamers ass film, product of it's time, probably cool for fans of the comic, ect.
There were points where I had some genuine enjoyment which means I can't completely write this film off, but by god do I just not give a shit about this.
Don't get it.
Boring.
It does play like your reading a comic though.
I played the game because of this movie, yes, I am a Scott Pilgrim enjoyer.
“Scott Pilgrim vs. the World” looks like the daydream of a game nerd who also happens to play in an indie band. It’s a light post-teen comedy where the tight editing and quirky visuals manage to keep everything fresh and entertaining without dead moments. However, the creativity in integrating visual effects from video games and comic books into live-action footage ends up being the primary, if not only, source of laughs, as the verbal jokes are generally quite dull. This is no doubt cult movie material but definitely needed a sharper script.
Basically Maniac by Conan Gray is based on this
While something like this isn't my usual cup of tea I really enjoyed it. I enjoy when an author will use a device to tell a story - in this movie the video game aspect is a means to portray the baggage that we all have when it comes to past relationships. I recently saw The Infinite Man - it used time travel to achieve the same end. While not everything worked it was still a fun watch from start to end. If nothing else it is a stunning movie to look at.

"Scott, let it go
Don't give 'em the satisfaction
What if I want the satisfaction?"
if you know, you know.
OMFG, I CAN NOT EXPRESS MY FKING FEELINGS AFTER WATCHING THIS MASTERPIECE.
[7.7/10] My wife and I watched Scott Pilgrim vs. The World on our first date. In hindsight, it seems like a bad movie for a first date. The protagonist is shitty with pretty much everyone he’s dated. There’s cheating. There’s ghosting. There’s scads and scads of dirty laundry from tons of bad relationships tossed around with candy-colored glee. It’s not the most inspiring or heart-warming movie in terms of romance.
But maybe it was the right movie, because despite how crappy a lot of the relationships featured are, and how bad Scott in particular is through most of the film, it’s a story about seeing past yourself and your own hang-ups. It’s about acknowledging that everyone has baggage from their romantic pasts, that framing yourself as the victim can easily become an excuse to ignore pain you yourself caused to others, and that it’s more important to work on who you are than to obsess over someone else who you imagine will solve all your problems. It takes a while to get there, but those are better morals than you’re likely to find in most traditional romantic films.
It’s also anything but a traditional film. Separate and apart from the morals at play, director Edgar Wright and his team create an audio-visual experience unlike anything else. More than just the inventive special effects and heightened reality flourishes, Wright and company toy with the very grammar of cinema. Despite a devotion to the moving image, Scott Pilgrim takes more cues from music, comic books, and video games than it does from conventional pacing, editing, or composition.
That pops up in visually obvious ways like the comic book like “krak”s and “thonk”s of onomatopoeia that emerge during fights and moments of self-flagellation. The video game influences are plain when victory equals coinage or snippets of chiptunes play in the background of key moments. And the movie conveys music like no other, with impressionistic representations of sound and emotion that fit the exaggerated tones of the movie.
But Wright’s adventurism goes beyond those easiest-to-latch-onto elements. His scene transitions don’t feature the usual straightforward cuts, but rather titles or sequences that make for more unique transitions or that simple blend into one another. Flashy techniques like split-diopter shots give us multiple close-ups in quick succession or help him juxtapose images like panels on a comics page. Even the pacing of the movie scans differently, with few of the traditional pauses or rests, instead just ratcheting up from event to event in a fury.
That helps give the movie such a distinctive feel. Given the magical powers and coin-ridden “fights to the death” at play, it doesn’t take much to realize that Scott Pilgrim occupies a very heightened reality rather than the real world. But that exaggeration isn’t just set dressing. The entire premise is a high concept realization of what it feels like to deal with other people’s romantic histories and, eventually, confront your own. Wright busts out scores of unusual tools in the cinematic toolbox or uses familiar ones in unfamiliar ways to convey those big emotions in a way that is both palpable and different from anything else in cinema (give or take Speed Racer). The over-the-top elements work as funhouse mirror versions of real experiences, which helps Scott Pilgrim vs. The World stand out and work in concert between its story and presentation.
That doesn’t stop Wright and his collaborators from just having fun though. The fight scenes work apart from the broader plot, with colorful and creative throwdowns with a ludicrous flair. For a movie that promises seven battles (more like six, to be fair), it never feels repetitive, throwing new wrinkles into each challenge that make them their own thing, both in terms of the setup and the emotional point the movie is making in these scenes.
It’s also a funny movie in a low-key, off-kilter sort of way. There’s few traditional jokes here, but a lot of awkward or silly situations, visual gags based on the video game conceits, and chuckle-worthy dialogue. The script nicely walks the line between the droll way that young folks communicate with one another, while also adding nice bits of stylization that give the conversations a rhythm and lyricism appropriate for the movie’s musical bent.
Those conversations typically happen around Scott and his fraught romantic life. Over the course of the movie, we see Scott still smarting from his break-up with his last girlfriend a year later. He takes comfort in Ramona because she’s already cool and seems to like him, in contrast to Nat who seemingly became too cool and lost interest in him. Ramona likewise finds comfort in Scott because she’s running away from her own bad relationship, with Scott representing someone who will chase her rather than mess with her head while she chases him.
The cinch of the movie is Knives, the teenager admirer whom Scott cheats on with Ramona and treats as excess baggage himself once he begins to fixate on his new color-capped paramour. The turn of the film is Scott learning to empathize with Knives and with Ramona, to filter the pain he causes each of them and what they’re going through via their own perspectives and experience rather than just his own. While the film is nominally a romance or an action movie, at base it’s one of personal maturity and empathy, where how you treat others is more important than who you end up with (even if who Scott ends up with feels a little off).
Ten years later, I barely remembered that, or much of anything from Scott Pilgrim vs. The World. I spent most of that first watch fretting over the enchanting woman sitting next to me, wondering if I was destined to become one of her exes, wondering if my own baggage was going to sink me, wondering how our relationship would fit into the different guises and roles that Edgar Wright and company presented for young love and infatuation. The fictionalized version of those stories quickly gave way to the potential real versions I was playing out in my head.
But if I’d paid more attention then, maybe I would have learned something. Maybe I’d have grappled with my own insecurities sooner and better or understood more about the baggage that everyone brings to a new relationship. As all young idiots do, I stumbled plenty as the two of us got to know each other better, and I tried desperately not to screw this incredible thing up.
Somehow, despite not fully comprehending the themes of the movie at the time, I managed not to. But that’s the beauty of returning to movies down the line -- even if they haven’t changed, you have. Watching Scott Pilgrim vs. The World in 2010, it would be too much to say I identified with the title character, but I saw him. I got him. I knew how it felt to be the young twenty-something uncertain in love.
A decade later, in a healthy and loving relationship, it’s harder to feel his romantic turmoil, to relate to his fears and hang-ups. But it’s easier to see the lesson about letting go of those things, becoming a better person regardless of who you’re with, and hoping that there’s something better coming on the other side of that door.
This ought to have been an entertaining film - but the only reason I watched it to the end was because I hoped that Kieran Culkin would show up again.
What is this? I don't get it.
Legitimately one of the stupidest movies I've ever seen, and not in a good way. It was a battle just to get through the whole thing. I don't even think rating it 1 is low enough. The only thing it really had going for it were that the effects were pretty cool and I liked the music.
Wow, I did not have so much fun in a movie for a long time.
Great direction, characters, soundtrack, visual effects and very funny.
Mary Elizabeth Winstead is a gift to the world and we should be grateful for that.
i m the vegan guy
OMG! Love it! It mades so differently and it keeps you watching the whole time.
quite unique. i wasn't expecting such a ride.
The tagline for this film is "An Epic of Epic Epicness" and I couldn't agree more.
The only thing I have to say about this flick is that it is that silly that it starts to be funny again. But I would never call it a good or even great movie!
Ramona... Ramoooonaaaa... on my mind...
OK, now I love Ramona :(
Interesting old-school comic book/video game style. Overall the plot was interesting too, but not really my cup of tea - nothing really captured me.
This movie is total worth of your time spent watching!
This is totally Ninety's!
I feel old remembering all that stuff
I guess there's just one word to summarize this film, and that word is awesome!
Probably the writers were high when they wrote the script but it's really funny
I had the exact same feeling as Hjord! Awesome movie!
weird, weird, really really weird movie. good movie nonetheless but i wouldn't be caught watching it again. it's just not for me.
At first i was like eh..? but then i was like - awesome!
Really weird movie, but it was so amazing well done.
Is this movie like guitar hero? That might be interesting.
yeah!
