i couldnt stand the narration and Salma Hayek as a boss nah didnt work. There is a good film in their somewhere but its a bit messy.
This movie was just so ridiculous that it was funny. I walked out of the movie, sickened but chuckling. It was so silly and bizarre, and the voice-over really helped this along. I wasn't sure what I had just seen, but I knew it wasn't good. That was the first time I've ever left a movie, pretty much, right when the credit started rolling, and no one else in the cinema was leaving. I was wondering if there was going to be some after-credits scene that I was missing out on, but I doubted it enough to keep walking.
Overall, like I said, I didn't like it. It had some nice bits, and some clever bits, some ridiculous bits and some disgusting bits. Unfortunately, the movie was built around those ridiculous and disgusting bits. Some people may like it, but it wasn't for me.
Fantastic movie, really very good, almost at the level of Pulp Fiction, absolutely suggested.
Good story, characters, plot, scenes, action, acting, soundtrack... Really complete.
Low level entertainment. Within ten minutes the tone is set. Which is really dumb pretentious dialogue venturing on the comedic 'I have orgasms and he has wargasms', and bad plot ideas, like the idea of someone having to go to Afghanistan to get the best seeds. I expected more from Oliver Stone.
what a surprise this was, it totally exceeded my expectations. had my full attention right from the start until the end & the ending was excellent. awesome movie, highly recommended!!
Great soundtrack and superb acting. It's like Frida is back, and Ophelia sex-appeal... Oh my!

Pretty good with twists and turns along the way.
Appreciation for this movie seems to be split directly 50/50, you either love it or you hate it. I am with the former - I thought it was a great piece of work, well acted and well ended. Will probably become one of my all-time favourites, if not at least of this genre.
Tons of boring scenes with action and comedy sprinkled in. Too bad it wasn't the other way around, this could have easily been so much better imo.
Meh. It’s more like a rated R Michael Bay movie. Definitely not a cartel movie, even though there are some gory bits that resembled stories from Narcos. I think what i didn’t like the most was the overly-saturated video filter that gave it “a hazy, warm California”. That took the darkest scenes and made them look not all that bad. It was about 45 minutes too long too.

I legit had no idea what was going on with this movie, but if you're a shallow scrub like me you'll keep watching because the cast is gorgeous. It's still kinda entertaining, I laughed more than I thought I would, but I'm not sure if I was supposed to be laughing...eh. But Blake Lively's husky narration grated on my NERVES.
Since it was on TV the other night, I decided to finally watch this movie. Even though I didn't expect much, it was even worse. It was so stupid, half way through I had to turn it off. The next day I finished it nonetheless, which must say something about my own stupidity, I guess.
The colours are rich, all the actors are nice to look at, I actually enjoyed watching John Travolta and it's always refreshing to see Emile Hirsch.. but other than that, a waste of time.

This is worth watching for Salma Hayek (I say that because she's a good actress). I'm not sure I'd rent it and sit through it again for any other reason. The plot is somewhat common for a drug deal/drug cartel type. It sort of reminds me of something I'd expect to have seen on Miami Vice years ago - only with more blood and gore.
There's nothing new here and there's no new angle on the story save for the three-way love story but if you're expecting anything explicit there - you'll be disappointed.
not sure what @ear is on, to compare this to pulp fiction is ridiculous. It's ok, certainly worth a watch and has some good moments...but it's very predictable and a messy film. Overall average.

Over the years Oliver Stone has not only written and directed great films (Scarface, Wall Street, Midnight Express, Platoon, JFK) and others..but he's also been part of a few bad films that never really got to the point of realism and viewer/character connection. (Natural Born Killers, U-Turn). "Savages" falls right in between as Oliver Stone takes a real headline topic of the Mexican Cartels and turns it to a silly and unrealistic movie that really can't be taken seriously. The film is full of international and local known actors, but their performances are not their best. The story feels predictable from start to finish while Blake Lively's narration of the story feels stupid and unnecessary. The movie is not super bad, but is not good either..a fair rating is the most this film can get.
