Romeo Must Die 2000

Genuinely one of my favorite movies that I watched several times in the theaters. A great comedic mix of hip hop, action, drama, and martial arts.

Brought of the best of Jet Li and Aaliyah for a movie that I didn't expect to enjoy as much as I did, and I had the CD to this movie on reply in my car for years. That is back in the day when we had CD Players in cars.

A hell of an ending to a great movie with a twist. And still a fun one to watch.

Film 121 (Goal: 300) of 2024:

A slog of a film. Film is at it's best when Jet Li is getting to do it's thing, but the back and forth gang war / Shakespeare inspired story is flat as anything. And the film is definitely a product of it's time, with it's mix of asian / hip hop, drum and bass in action scenes, the x-ray bone breaking and other things of the time. I remember watching The One recently (another Jet Li film of around the same time) and while it doesn't hold up as well as I remember, it's a far better film than this.

Aaliyah is great as well. Gone far too soon. Edoardo Ballerini looks like a child in this film (I'm shocked to learn he was roughly 29 - 30 when this was filmed).

My only memories of this movie are wondering why we're getting x-ray views of people breaking, and then throwing up.
