Good god that kid is so utterly annoying
Good fun movie to rent. I didn't love it, but I also didn't hate it either.
There's a kid, a shitty dad & a bunch of robots punching each other. Child me thought this film fucking ruled & there's a nice simplicity & nostalgia to this film
You definitely feel the clichés while you're watching, but boy was it hell of a ride! Not much can live up to the thrill of giant metal machines duking it out.
i loved this movie it was great & i wasn't expecting it to be that good at all. great performance from everyone especially the little kid he was very impressive.
I watched it with my 11 y/o and it is flawed but better than I expected. He really got in to it and I know at that age I would have too. What kid doesn't want to watch a kid with a fighting robot. At just over 2 hours long I thought he may have wained in the middle but it kept his attention the whole way. But as an adult it's hard not to see where it is shabby around the edges. I wouldn't have rushed to have watched it on my own.
As mentioned Dakota Goyo is fantastic.
@outspoken right on, I thought that too.
Good fun, better than I expected.
A bit ruined by the over the top advertising but actually got a lot better in the second half. As already mentioned great acting from the kid and proper feel good ending make this well worth a watch.
Really enjoyable movie. The robots looked great. It was hard to watch the last fight i was shouting at my tv for adam to get up
T'was good. Although plot left a little to be desired, the cgi makes up for it. Must watch specially the blu ray. Looks amazing in hd.
Perfectly constructed comment there blui. I will certainly be taking all your points of why it was "crap" into account while deciding to watch this film.
Every time I watch this movie I cry a little more than the time before. Luckily the wife had the tissues nearby (this movie gets her everytime too).
The first 30 minutes is horrible, but if you can stick with it, the story gets going and turns into a truly great sports movie, even if the athletes are robots.
So boring! I guess for a ten year old is ok.
REAL STEEL (2011) REVIEW

:man:⚖ Review : Children Love Robots and Men loves Boxing, what if a movie mixes these two elements. Real Steel is a Hollywood Action Fantasy drama starring Hugh Jackman and Evangeline Lilly. Its a futuristic action drama and there are tons of brutal (if gripping) scenes of robot combat, some of which gets pretty intense. The despite having great intense action scenes there is a touch of human emotions of the sweet drama this movie encapsulates while Hugh tries to reconnecy with his long lost son. Director Shawn Levy distinctively articulates a simple straightforward screenplay which flows like water and still intrigues us in those high intensity scenes if Robot combats.
Hugh Jackman is flawless and he beautifully transforms from a reckless, irresponsiblean to a caring, honest and dedicated father. Dakota Goyo is praiseworthy as the son of Charlie (Hugh).
Overall Real Steel is a beautifully blended story with poignant relationship of a father and Son and how he wins his sons respect by supporting him in his journey of Robot Boxing.
Beautiful And Engaging.. Dont Miss.

My 8 year old boy favourite movie :-)
I never saw Over the Top with Sylvester Stallone until now. So I never knew that Real Steel is Over Top but with fighting robots instead of arm wrestling.
The film is good either way though. Due to Hugh Jackman.
I love this movie. It inspired me a lot , at one point even i want to get into boxing but then i settle down for the "Real Steel Game" .
A real feel good film, loved it
Father and son movie bundled as robot-boxing movie. Pretty good overall, with stunning acting from both Hugh Jackman and Dakota Goyo. Goyo is especially fantastic.
The plot however feels a bit lacking here and there; especially in the last quarter of the movie where things seem to be rushed to the grand final championship with family drama in-between. There seems to be some things left unresolved and unexplained; e.g. what's the point of hinting that the robot might have had emotional connection with the user (with the frequent stills of the robot's "expression")? Also the grand final doesn't have enough screen time, as if the battles were cut and sped up because of time constraint.
Jackman does his best as always, but he alone can't salvage a once-promising prospect that instead settles for being the very definition of blockbuster mediocrity.
I didn't expect much from this movie but it got me nailed for the complete 2 hours. It's a nice movie to shutdown your brains and enjoy the boxing.
Emocionante en todo momento.. Awesome
An average, quite enjoyable movie.
İts was good.
Buenos efectos, pero el tema es repetido.
Like the good old times! Loved it,- and reminded me of the movies that have been around in the late 80's and early 90's. Great family movie.
What "outspoken" said, a new over the top.
as a kid i would love this movie, as an adult having grown up in the 80s i was constantly reminded of the movie Over the Top. it's almost an exact replica as far as the script goes. was able to to get past that easily, good movie.
awww, really cute kid, especially the little dance scene... ha. really enjoyed this.
Was expecting this movie to be average verging upon mediocre but got into this pretty fast, Max's (the kid's) acting in this was impressivans he made the movie great. Nice story and takes the top spot for the best movie I've watched this year.
I think that little kid was amazing, without him this flick would be pretty dull.
I was not convinced with Hugh Jackman's performance & the plot has a few flaws, but overall it's worth watching.
IMO: 7 of 10 stars
Really liked it... expected less from it to be honest.
Story was fun, the kid is indeed believable (acting really good) and Hugh Jackman is always awesome.
CGI is really good too, good action and some humor in it...
Enjoyed it very much!
A surprising punch right to my stomach! Amazing Movie =)
Better than expected. The kid was believeable too which is pretty important :)
It reminded me of "Over the Top" several times and was quite a fun watch.
I had a lot of fun watching this one. It's a nicely done "Transformers" meets "Rocky" movie.
The story was also nicely done. They stayed clear from a few clichés that could have ruined the movie, like for instance the boy finds out right at the start that his father (Hugh Jackman) "sold" him to his aunt and her husband instead of him finding out much later and getting all upset about it. Also the father didn't try to get custody back from the aunt witch i thought he would do for a second there when he apologised at the door.
The CGI robots were very nicely done. Especially in HD it looked like two real robots were pounding the shit out of each other.
Overall i say that this movie gets a thumbs up, 8/10.
I just got back from seeing this. I loved it and thought it was a ton of fun!
Fun watch! Really enjoyed the end fight, was a bit like Rocky but with Robots.

Real Steel was awesome. Chock-full of cliches and flaws but who the hell cares, it's about goddamn boxing robots, if you don't love this movie, you don't know how to have fun.
