Eh. Very predictable. Fine to have on in the background, but wasn't exceptional in any way
Idk why this reminds me of Nicholas Sparks films.
Purple Hearts certainly is a movie. And I have thoughts. Very unstructured thoughts, so I apologize.
The movie is relatively comoetent acted I give it that. The leads don't have much chemistry though. It is also way too long for its own good and tries to cram way too many issues in instead of focusing one and doing it right.
The initial idea of making the whole scam about Cassie's diabetes and actually addressing the healthcare issue America is was interesting and should have been the main focus here, but no it also had to be about drug money. And sadly that tired cliche turned out to be a bigger issue than the actual interesting social commentary.
Then there's the issue about the war and military. The film tries some half-assed "war bad" commentary (in the most shallow way possible) before making a basic 180 and being more "yay 'Murica" as it goes on. Again, why not focus on the fucked up healthcare system that literally makes it impossible for people to get life saving medicine? Who knows.
I didn't know Nicholas Galitzine before and he was fine, if a little bit stiff but his character didn't offer much to go for anyways.
Then there's Sofia Carson, whom I enjoyed in other movies, but she was stuck with such an irritating character that even her charme did not work. And look, I know she can sing but girl, why choose this breathy style and swallow up most of the words? I'm sorry to say it, but I didn't enjoy one of the music performances in the film and it was si silly how she got literally everything she wanted without facing any consequences.
Now, here's the deal. Cassie had a valid reason for her scam, she literally needed it to survive but this should've been addressed in the court scene, not just Luke being the martyr and going to jail while she got a record deal.
Also, did they really have to kill off the most likeable character in the film for no reason?

In case you don’t think I’m a romantic (maybe based on my disdain for Hallmark cookie cutter romances), I want to set the record straight. I love love. Let me settle into a good drama with romance and I’m a happy camper. On the recommendation of a friend I settled into this one tonight and I liked it. It was very easy to fall in love with Sofia Carson and Nicholas Galitzine’s characters. As inevitable as the plot was, it was nice to watch it play out despite the roadblocks they put in their own way. For a cozy night in this is a nice watch. I give this film a 7 (nice) out of 10. This romantic movie has a unique premise but as it falls prey to genre cliches, it fails to deliver something new.
Surprisingly good. I too thought it would be just another romantic movie with army plot. You know what will happen through entire movie but it's well acted, the couple has great chemistry and it's a little bit fresh raising some issues without being too political. Definitely worth to watch.
Making a movie named after the “congrats you’ve failed your job” award is a bit weird.
This movie tries to be like Dear John but fails miserably. Feels more like a drawn out “made for TV” movie.
My twelve year old sister told my wife and I that we “had to see the new Netflix romantic movie” so the three of us proceeded to watch it. As someone that’s not a sucker for romantic movies, I’m usually hyper critical of it’s faults or find them overly cliche. This one…kinda broke that mold. Mostly. When I saw ‘Where the Crawdads Sing’ a couple weeks ago, that was an interesting plot with so many flaws that I felt flopped what could have been amazing. This one took kind of a muddled down premise, and made it compelling with various choices it made. Characters good. Conflict good. But some of the writing was kind of basic, including a cliche romantic ending. Despite its flaws and straight to streaming quality, I would recommend it. As someone that doesn’t really enjoy the romantic stuff, this kind of told a story for males and females and I really appreciated it.

Literal millitary propaganda - don’t watch this it’s so bad and only trending cause it has booktok tropes. The story is literally a white conservative man and a poc liberal women fall in love and she ends up being conservative at the end despite his racism towards her family
Jesus, this movie was a hot mess. In the grand scheme of things I shouldn't have went into a movie that centres around a marriage of convenience thinking I'm going to like it cause that sort of thing is definitely not up my alley but I still had faith. I felt like the movie was all over the place and I cannot think positively of a movie that constantly throws out racist and misogynistic comments and having one of the characters saying they're allowed to say those things because they're saving people's lives. What the fuck? The songs were the thing I was looking forward to the most, I love a good musical moment in a film but other than Sofia Carson's stunning vocals the songs were just ok and overall a little bit of a let down. At the moment the movie sits in the middle for me, neither bad nor good but don't think I'll be rewatching.

I actually liked it, although Sofia should stick with singing rather than acting. I would expect at least some emotions and maybe a tear towards the end?
Other than that, it’s a typical and predictable romantic “dramady”, but also a feel good movie about self love, respect, empathy, family and love.
Man, there are a lot of bad critics out there. Take the time to give this a watch. I found the movie enjoyable. A good romantic drama. 7/10 from me.
I was kind of disappointed with the plot. This was trending and so hyped so I was expecting a lot more but turns out, people are just so excited with enemies to lovers trope. It felt so slow that I did not feel the connection between the characters building so for me, the ending felt insincere. And since they kind of ended the film open, some people may find it romantic, but for me, I see them breaking up. That's just how I see their relatioship in this story. There's just a lot of elements in the story that are lacking and felt short even though the film's duration is two hours. But kudos Sofia Carson. Her voice and acting is great in this film. I also love the cinematography here. They must have shot a lot of scenes during sunset but it really worked tho. Giving it a 5/10.
