That film dragged like CRAZY. Condensed into 90 minutes it could have been great.
Johnny Depp and Christian Bale face-off in the exciting historical crime drama Public Enemies. Based on a novel, the film follows the rise of the FBI during the 1930s as they pursue notorious bank robber John Dillinger and his associates. The acting’s quite good, as both Depp and Bale give excellent performances. However, Michael Mann’s directing is exceptionally poor; particularly in the excessive use of handheld camera shots and the inconsistent cinematography. Still, the action scenes are quite compelling and have a remarkable sense of realism. Public Enemies has its moments, but it’s an uneven film that ends up being less than the sum of its parts.
The shootouts were great. Really well done and tense. Everything else was kind of dull and boring. A little too long. Johnny Depp was pretty decent too. It doesn't look like Michael Mann can live up to some of his earlier work.
Look at the film had everything to be good but the ending belittled everything mainly the romance cliche.
Not bad, felt like they didn’t really set up character/story background and rushed through it. Depp/Bale do a good job. Pretty wild that it is true story

The film is packed with plenty of action, making it an intense and exciting viewing experience.
The soundtrack was lacking, there could have been a lot more music throughout this film.
You would think that a movie with an all-star cast and director couldn't miss, right? Well, this one kind of did. It wasn't that there was anything necessarily wrong with it. There just wasn't much right with it. I didn't look at my watch while it was on but at the same time I was indifferent when it ended. The bigger problem I had was the complete re-write of historical events. The characters were completely transformed from who they were in real life. Instead of making Dillinger out to be a gangster (he wasn't), why not just portray him as the people's hero that he was? There were several scenes where Dillinger was shown in front of adoring crowds but not once did the director tell us why.
In my opinion, the best mobster movie since the last best one. They say you could've recognized Dillinger just from his smile.
I stopped after an hour, it was just so slow. Maybe just not a movie for me...
Despite the flaws, this is still a good movie from Mann. Just don't go in expecting it to out do his best.

So confusing and boring. Bad story. Terrible ending. I think the ratings are for Johnny Depp's superb acting not for the movie.
