This is 'Primer' for dummies.
The movie frustrated me from time to time because of massive plot holes and bad writing. The idea is challenging, and complex enough to have fun with, and not too complex to get lost in. However too many things did not add up.
For such smart kids they sure were reckless and rushed everything as if they were for the first time in a chemistry class. Every guy who has even the slightest idea of timetravel knows that messing with stuff in the past is going to get you in trouble (butterfly effect) and if you are going to do something you have to plan it out carefully.
There are also multiple occasions when they travel back in time for a 2nd time to the same time and place, but do not meet their 'earlier' time traveling selfs there. This was especially awkward with the kiss scene. Arguably the most important scene of the movie. Even if the device somehow canceled out earlier jumps to the same time, they didn't have to interfere but just had to jump and wait.
For the story it might have been much more interesting if they didn't focus so much on the main actor during the final act of the movie and prevent such a boring cliched ending.
There is more, but lets leave it with this
There is 1 interesting detail in the ending though; the papers David throws in the garbage bin after the talk with his father date 2025. I wonder what that implies....
Still, there are way worse movies out there.
Edit: there is another thing I really liked about the movie btw. It used a track by Mark Sixma. :D
still trying to figure it out the ending feeling lost ...
Gaping plot hole: the time travellers each experience a to them linear time narrative, but somehow David sees his present self in a 10 year old home movie?! That should not have been in David's "original" history at all, since it's only AFTER seeing this home video that he travels back to that birthday party. Of course: had he not seen himself in the video, he never would have built the time machine in the first place...
There is simply no getting around the fact that a circular causality (causal nexus) like this never, ever works when the time traveller's personal timeline is linear (or immutable). The only way they could have swung it would have been by going fully mutable (as in: there is only one timeline, which everyone shares), but even then a circular causality would still be considered a paradox.
Just watched this movie for the first time. But this page says I watched it Jan 26, 2015. The movie hadn't even come out at that point! Are you messing with me Trakt??
In all seriousness, I probably confused this movie with another .. Right? RIGHT!?
Unnecessary and disturbing the entire film was shot with the same onboard camera view. And what the fuck happened in that ending? In fact, all trips have inconsistencies, they didn't stop to try to make sense.
A super smart teen assembles a time machine left behind by his genius father. With help from his friends, they use the time machine to achieve stupid things that teens think are important and end up screwing themselves over.
This movie looks good, can be exciting, and does a good job of making you care about the characters. As it draws nearer to its conclusion, the consequences of their time traveling starts to surface. And speaking of the conclusion, it's unsatisfying.
They should have hired an actual technical advisor instead of placing random "scientific" words in the plot
I did not expect it to be this good. Mixed feelings about the end, though.
It was interesting, with a good presentation of what time travel could entail... But it got sloppy towards the end!
I loved it! I though the ending was one of the best parts, not sure why many people are unsure about it.
I thought this movie was going to be amazing, but it just didn't make the bar for me. It was an okay story line, but I found myself struggling to finish watching the movie. I would not recommend it unless you have nothing else to watch.
This film has a lot of "bugs", things that should have happened but completely ignored. But overall it´s a great movie with a good plot.
I had a lot of fun with this movie, it doesn't take itself very seriously, it's a bunch of teenagers using a time machine to do dumb stuff and have fun.
At the same time I was a bit annoyed that the rules of time travel were inconsistent (when Quinn goes back 3 times to class, what happens to the other 2 time travellers?). Also the ending doesn't make sense to me.
Luckily for me I don't care much about those things and I could just enjoy this silly movie for what it was.
It would be better if the camera man hasn't Parkinson disease.
This was a good temporal sci-fi movie. I liked the twist ending. Because I understood what the main character did. :nerd:
A movie for passing time and that's all, it's full of time travel inconsistencies and the ending is just a MASSIVE plot hole with 0 sense...
why do people comment here
I hope someone builds a time machine and goes back and makes this movie properly. It had a lot of potential which it just never delivered on.
One of the worst films I’ve ever seen. Those blurring and noise effects...
Very interesting. It's a good movie that doesn't bore you to death.. good.
i really enjoyed it and kinda confuse you little bit,my head still hurt! like literally. but nonetheless it was very good movie to pass time. :)
I like so much (and maybe share) the idea of what happens when they see themselves on another timeline. It seems really logical for me.
Is this Back to the Future 4? :)
Fun movie to watch and make you really think on how time travel works and the horrific consequences that could happen because of it.
It begins well, but the raves, do crazy and that final umm as not
Basically Chronicle with Time Travel
Started great, bad in the middle and wrong ending
Funny movie, interesting plot but..... Bad handled final, it could be the beginning!
Think if the movie starts with the end, shot with a cinematic view, without boring camera angle, where they discover a life that they lived but they don't remember and tried to figured out what happened? What father did?
Great movie, however couldn't stop thinking 'Interstellar' & 'Click' had a baby.
The ending is so stupid, reminded me of Butterfly effect's ending.. Do this at the last moment and then "none of it ever happened"... It's like when someone always wins the LOTTERY, millions die in return, and they have to undo it. WHY THE FUDGE WOULD WINNING THE LOTTERY HAVE SUCH A BIG EFFECT ON THE EARTH?! (not a spoiler by the way, just a example)
the movie would be halfway decent, but the camera moment ... why
It was a good movie to watch. It reminded me a little butterfly effect
Subject was awesome, could have explored it all a bit more...
worth a watch, one of the best movies this year so far
Amazing movie all that i want in a movie, action, love, cience, friends, firt person camera. it's perfect
