Pretty fun fantasy/adventure. An enjoyable mix of Harry Potter and Clash of the Titans. You don't see much Greek mythology in these types of movies, so that was refreshing.
A troubled high school student learns he is the lost son of Poseidon when, during a field trip to the natural history museum, his substitute teacher suddenly sprouts wings and tries to chew his face off. He's then whisked away to a summer camp for demigods, crash-coursed on current events atop Mount Olympus, mired in a messy dispute between deities and sent on a whiplash road trip with two friends.
A teenaged Harry Potter for Greek mythology buffs, in other words, only I can't tell which age range it's intended for. The main characters' maturity levels, their frequent romantic teases and the plot's dusty historical influences seem to indicate it's geared for early teens, but the simplistic plot and colorless dialogue gives the impression it's aimed at a much younger audience. Either way, it's a misfire. The supporting cast is loaded and Chris Columbus is on-board as both producer and director, so clearly the studio had every intention of mining this as the next big multi-film adaptation, but the effects stink, the story is dreary and there's no sparkle between the core players. Even the author of the source novels, Rick Riordan, has publicly disavowed it. Pretty tough to argue with that.
"I'm not a hero. I'm a loser.
I have dyslexia and ADHD"
Same Percy, same.
I remember watching this when I was 11 and thinking "woah, Greek gods in an adventure movie, that's so cool!" Then, a few days ago, I decided to give the novel a shot, seeing as the new Disney+ adaptation came out. I wanted to see what the book was like before watching the show. Needless to say, this 2010 version strayed from the original material waaaaaay too much for me to be able to rate it anything higher than a 4. The plot didn't make any sense, and most characters seemed half-baked. Here's to hoping the new adaption is better!
A great movie for all the family, great seeing Pierce Brosnan...

What a good entertaining and well done movie that follows a Demi-god who discovers his true existence in a time of crisis and is flung into action to save the world from a god war. The plot development and back story lead up is really cool as they mask it behind several surface plot points that make the film seem like something else. The lead up to the main premise is a bit rushed so the 2 other main characters plot development doesn’t make the audience like them as much. But all in all the action, drama and conclusion are entertaining.
i really do enjoy this movie, even if it is cheesy at times. i havent read the books, i know nothing about percy jackson and very very little about greek mythology so this is very fun for me. im excited to see the next one and watch the disney series, i think ill watch both before i go for the books just so that i can enjoy them for what they are rather than what they could've been
i know nothing about pjo, i havent read the books or anything before. i loved this movie, had a lot of fun with it and i think logan carried the main role well. i wouldve liked to see more depth in the characters, but for a movie that had a lot to set up i think it did well. the emotional beats hit well and the graphics and cgi were great for the time. i liked it a lot.
i rewatched and i can confirm i was confused by the large screen and logan lerman

I know movies don't always have to follow the book 100% but they don't even include Ares who is a big part of the first book. A lot of things were changed to make it a fun Hollywood movie and that bummed me out.
Having never seen these movies, read the books, or even known there was a new series coming out, I was intrigued when this popped up in my Movie Club. I see that it got awful reviews, but I thought it was mildly entertaining. Cheesy and some bad effects, but that is expected from a teen action movie that is over a decade old. While not great, I will be watching the sequel and the series soon!

this movie is not as bad as people make it out to be but then again i have not read the books yet…
I am rewatching this right now, because ther TV-Show is about to drop and it´s been a long time since I watched it.
Let me start with the good things:
The special effects are not bad, they are not really good either, but espacially for that time I quite like them. Sooo that was all the good things, now let´s start with the bad things.
There are like the half of characters and Story Arcs missing, I mean in the books we have three villains which are really complex, and in the movie we have one and he we don´t know why he is doing this, what motivates him or have any background at all.
Overall, the script is really bad, but the delivery is definitely worse.
And don´t get me started on Grover, he is just a comic relief and has no actual purpose to the story, how could they do this to one of the main characters???
Oh and how come none of these characters were given any personality???
NOT LIKE THE BOOKS. All that aside, the movie itself was meh. Lerman didn't seem like too good of an actor here as well as the rest of the cast. No one matches the characters role. Brandon Jackson was hilarious yet so unlike Grover in the books.
My 12yr old daughter has read all the books and really wanted to watch this. I warned her that I heard there were many changes from the books but she wanted to try anyway. 15 mins in and she wanted it off bc it was so different. We googled after and found out the author wasn’t involved in this movie and didn’t seem to approve of the changes made either. She’s looking forward to the TV series coming out in 2024. That one sounds like the author is actually involved in so should be much better.
As someone who hasn’t read the books - it might be enjoyable as just a movie.
The casino scene was and still is the best scene in cinematic history
A pretty decent movie, just not the book. It also would have been better if Columbus put in the effort he put into Harry Potter. Doesn’t help that the budget is probably much smaller.
Hopefully the new Disney + series is better.
When I was younger, I remember watching this film over and over again. It was one of the only films I would sit through the entirety of. Now watching it as I'm older I see the flaws that I was blind as a child.
First off, a am a massive fan of the Rick Riordan books and know that this first adventure is meant to focus on Percy, Annabeth, and Grover, as they are around the region of 12 years old. But they got 20 year olds to play those characters, I must admit that the cast they picked were amazing in their roles but if I had no knowledge of the book it was based off then I would of said they were all about 16 at the youngest. Also, with them meant to be 12, it would of sent out immediate red flags to me that something was going on if I was allowed in to a casino at that age. How did they not know something was going on? I understand that this is an issue that carries on over from the book so I completely understand why they kept it as it was.
Having said those criticisms however I do still think this is a great movie, especially considering the age range it is aimed at. There are some funny and slightly scary moments to the eyes of a child but still very enjoyable!
Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief
Something something Zeugs Perseidon Hades Battery Staple.
Overall, acting and plot felts kinda cheap and general, and I don't think execution wasn't much better either. It is pretty much an average fantasy Olymp movie.
Rating: 5/10
I didn't know Maxmoefoe was in this movie... I mean, look! He's on the poster!
So many plot holes, so many incorrect interpretations of the myths.
I personally love the movie. One of my favorites. Better than the book

Oh Zeus, Poisidon, Hades, Hermes... Help us all...
Terrible movie, it makes me question the book it comes from. I liked Pierce Brosnan's ass however.
Overall I like it, though some of the scenes and actions of these people feel so.. weird to me. Like they're trying too hard. Though Logan Lerman is as good as ever c: and the characters are quite enjoyable!
one does not simply steal the lightning bolt
I haven't read the book yet, but as an individual film it's pretty cute.
Logan Lerman annoys me, but the story itself is not bad.
Not a good film adaptation.
The writers of the movie ruined the original book's potential of becoming something huge

As an independent film, I think it's actually quite good. However, as an adaptation of one of my favorite books, I have to say it's terrible and was a massive disappointment.
