I’m not going to be coy or clever here, Out of Sight is one of my favourite films.
Soderburgh spins the tale so perfectly, carefully balancing out tension and comedy. Everyone is working towards a big heist, but the real driving force behind the whole thing is a lust-fuelled forbidden romance.
Clooney and Lopez don’t just have chemistry, they set the screen ablaze. It could be a side-show in any other film but here the sheer force of attraction between the two is what steals the show. Out of Sight has one of the most erotic on-screen relationships in movie history, and it feels like it wasn’t even trying.
A true modern masterpiece.

The perfect movie. This one has it all. Elmore Leonard does what he does, but with Soderbergh at the helm and Clooney and Lopez at their best this one is tough to beat. The dialogue is crisp, the humor is clever, the style suave and the chemistry between the “bandit and the cop” is magical. Easily one of my favorite movies of all time.
This was just an OK. I had some trouble following the plot, if that tells you anything. 6.5/10.
Well dang. Sometimes I feel the need to try to explain why I’m rating something on the lower end when so many others have so much positive to say, and this is one of those some times.
I did find that the movie started off really strong. I was immediately pulled in and the premise was plenty appealing. Somewhere shortly past the two hanging out in the trunk together it began to go downhill though and there was little to no excitement up until the finales. By then, I just wanted them all to get it over with. When you could watch only the beginning and the ending of a movie and not have any questions, something wasn’t done right.
I think my overall issue had to do with the pacing. It made the film drag and become a bore. It was also as if the tone of the film was confused. A comedy crime type film should have far more quick, punchy lines. It seemed as though many of the conversations between characters just went on and on. I felt like I was nosily listening in on neighbors and having to endure the boring bits surrounding anything relatively interesting coming up. Movies aren’t supposed to be that true to life; they’re supposed to continually keep your interest.
The transitions were not done well, especially when going back and forth in the timeline. They were trying to build up to all the characters colliding in the end, but it just wasn’t much of a build. Also, the freeze frames that were thrown in here and there were odd and felt out of place.
All that without even bringing up the fact that there probably should have been more of an internal battle going on with Karen about wanting to pursue a relationship with a criminal. There being a spark or a connection felt is a good start, sure, but she’s presented as smart enough to know better than to continue on with that reason alone; especially if she’s been burned by a similar scenario in the past. Her dad being as supportive as he was, was a little out there. He was basically like, "You like those bad boys, honey? You have those bad boys!" Yeah, there's nothing alarming or potentially risky about having that kind of taste in men in any way.
I’m a casual, although relatively strong Jennifer Lopez fan, which is how this ended up on my watch list to begin with; but I’m definitely ready to put this movie out of sight and out of mind.
P.S. J.Lo in the movie, Enough, is more my jam.
A pinnacle of acting craft. Everyone has brought their A-game to the roles, no matter how small. The pacing of the plot propels the film forward perfectly, allowing the romance aspect to evolve naturally. Out Of Sight is a movie that easily bears repeated viewing.
I had not seen her since I saw her in the movies, what a great chemistry between George Clooney and Jennifer Lopez. Both is very good
Loved that scene when Clooney and Lopez were talking and it was night and it was snowing outside. That was magic!
Ehhhhhhhhh, I just couldn’t quite buy it. We have to buy in to the central romance here, but that initial kidnapping/trunk sequence was just so bizarre and unconvincing I couldn’t get into the rest of the movie. Especially given the pains the movie takes to show how capable and committed the Lopez character is in the rest of her life. Clooney’s charming, of course, but…it didn’t do it for me. Soderbergh seems to be working out a lot of tricks and tics that he would put to much better use in Ocean’s Eleven, and there were a few bits that felt unnecessarily crass and mean-spirited. Disappointed, I expected better.
Even if I hadn't seen this once before I would have known how this movie would go. It is to obvious what will happen. Personally I think there is too much talking which slows everything down. And while Clooney can pretty much play anything and be convincing J-Lo was a dissapointment. I didn't buy the US-Marshal act. She's an extremly attractive woman and that's why she's casted. In any case, more of a romance than anything else and not a good one from where I stand.
Le duo Clooney/Lopez fonctionne vraiment bien. Une gentille comédie policière bien faite.

Clooney really runs with the suave bad boy image in this film, and no surprises that the role suits him. Can't get enough of this witty, sexy film.
