Our Uniform 2023

In the Oscar-nominated short film 'Our Uniform', a girl from Iran reflects on her memories of her school days. It primarily concerns the wearing of the hijab, which is mandatory for women in the country and has recently sparked widespread protests. Accordingly, the film also has a certain timeliness. However, the realization itself is the real highlight, as the story is told with the help of animated figures on the fabric of the girl's old school uniform. Overall, this is very creative and, above all, something new. The tone was perhaps a little too lighthearted for me, but it's still a really enjoyable short film.

[Annecy '23] The most creative part is the use of the hijab uniform that is used in schools as the canvas on which the drawings are made, using the folds, pockets and seams as elements that are integrated within the animation. It is a technique that achieves very imaginative moments, such as when she describes the difference between the girls' hijabs, white, and those worn by the older students (black). The short film has a casual tone but at the same time is loaded with great political force and a clear exposure of the way in which the Iranian government indoctrinates girls from schools.
