A highly enjoyable no-bullshit action movie. Fast paced, great action, funny one liners without turning to slapstick. I’d love to see Guy Ritchie doing a Bond movie!
I thought The Gentlemen was a nice return to form for Guy Ritchie, so I wonder what happened here. Not only is this very low effort in just about every regard (uninspired visuals, generic score, bad acting, no clever editing, extremely by the numbers characters/story, zero memorable scenes), but it even manages to mess up on what is usually Richie’s biggest strength: the dialogue. During some points of this movie I was reminded of Bullet Train (which was rightfully accused of being a Guy Ritchie rip-off, funny enough), because both movies have these brief moments where characters are acting ‘quirky’, but it feels like these conversations are written by a normie who doesn’t understand what being quirky means. It certainly does not mean acting random and cringy, which is something you’d assume the filmmaker behind Snatch would understand. Are there genuinely people out there who think this is funny? Because I’d argue it gives a lot of Marvel’s recent output a run for its money on the cringe-o-meter. Anyway, this film gains a couple of points for the production value and some ok directorial work (a few of the fight scenes are actually pretty decent), but honestly I’ll be very surprised if I remember any of this within a week.
3/10
Seen it today in a sneak-preview in my favorite cinema. The perfect mix of action and fun. And really fantastic actors. Has been a pleasure to see it.
This is not Guy Ritchie's best movie.
It's not Guy Ritchie's best movie starring Jason Statham.
It's not even Guy Ritchie's best movie featuring a sleazy, cockney-accented Hugh Grant who loves an outdoor barbecue grill.
But it is Guy Ritchie's only movie with Aubrey Plaza.
(Also, Josh Hartnett is freaking hilarious.)
I went into this hoping it wasn't another by-the-numbers Jason Stratham action flick, but it mostly was. Stratham wants to be the next Bruce Willis but really is more of the sad Liam Neeson doing whatever action flick comes his way because he has no chops for anything else.
Hugh Grant was pretty good in this, as was Aubrey Plaza, and overall it's a decent action film but nothing earth shattering. If you have seen any of Strathams 400 other nearly identical action flicks then you've seen this one with a few exceptions.
Guy Ritchie's best movies have a lot of shared DNA. Memorable characters. A wry British humor. Frenetic pacing. Multiple plot threads that intersect in interesting and unexpected ways. And of course, Jason Statham. This film has only one of those things and, as much as I love the dulcet tones of Mr. Statham's deep, British accent, he unfortunately can't carry the movie on his own. The biggest issue here is the plot. It's simple. It's bland. It's forgettable. There's a phrase in screenwriting which refers to realizing the potential that is implied by whatever clever plot you've come up with: the promise of the premise. This movie fails to deliver on that promise. The central premise of recruiting a movie star for an undercover mission feels underdeveloped and Josh Hartnett's character doesn't have nearly enough to do. With respect to humor, I could see the attempts at Ritchie-esque humor throughout, but almost none of them land. The one exception, and the one bright spot of the entire movie, was Hugh Grant. His was the only character that felt like it had some actual character largely thanks to Grant's performance. I quite enjoyed him in another recent Guy Ritchie film, The Gentlemen, so here's hoping that he becomes another mainstay for the director.
Aubrey Plaza steals every scene
It's The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent meets Mission: Impossible.
I could not tell you what the plot was if my life depended on it.
Fast paced and entertaining movies, James Bond with Flavor. And I really enjoyed Jason Statham in his role, but Hugh Grant was brilliant, loved his character. Fun and easy movie to watch, totally enjoyable
This is one good movie if you just want to be enjoyed. Grab some popcorn and have a good time. The story is fun, characters and diologue both well written and most importantly, it keeps you entertained throughout the whole movie.
Yes, yes, yes! Need more of this. Just plain action and not all the bullshit and woke and things. Loved it! Reminds me of the golden movie period of Schwarzenegger, Stallone. Keep it up Jason Statham!
This is the most generic movie I've seen
I liked it
Popcorn cinema at its best.
A little bit Bond, a little bit Mission Impossible.
Guy Richi doesn't reinvent the genre.
But he delivers a successful film.
Very entertaining and all around fun movie. My love for Aubrey Plaza continues. Some great one liners in this movie too.
Brilliant movie. Great to see Guy Ritchie (mostly) back on form after the somewhat lacklustre Covenant. The Stath was on form again and Hugh Grant I think has done his best movies ever with Guy Ritchie. Great to see Aubrey Plaza getting more and more parts too, really enjoyed watching her in S2 of the White Lotus.
Guy’s movies have somewhat lost their sparkle since the glory days of the Lock, Stock and Snatch movies but this is decent enough.
As always with a Guy Ritchie you have to first ask... is this another Snatch?
The answer is no. It doesn't have the tightness of screenplay that Snatch does. It does have solid writing especially in the dialog. Hugh Grant is a delight and everyone else just charismas their way through the film. Aubrey Plaza is used just about as well as she should have been which is impressive because I kept waiting for the movie to oversell her and it didn't. It had restraint. And that restraint lets the characters really fulfill and be likeable.
But characters aside the movie doesn't really know what it wants to tell storywise. I'm forgiving of modern global threats because the world is a lot more complicated now and the "bad guys hunting nukes" or "bad guys hunting super rockets" are ridiculous and while I have no problem with it the general audience sleeps on those. But the "killer AI" is just as silly but not more silly. So while the logic of the movie doesn't hold up, I don't fault that. I do fault the meandering of the story. It never seems to want to go anywhere. There's never any push or urgency. Heck there's barely any inconvenience. It feels like a kid playing with his toys. It's a testament to the direction of Guy Ritchie that even as blasé as that sounds it never comes across as boring.
It's definitely not another Snatch but it's still Guy Ritchie.
What a waste of good talent (and a strange accented Hugh Grant). Slickly produced, reasonable sound track, all the high tech toys and witty lines that we would expect in a high tech spy actiony type movie, a script with all kinds of trivia twists, a disgustingly wealthy villian. And yet the most memorable thing of this movie is how forgettable it is. Is it because if feels like just an amalgamation of a hundred other similar movies? Too many focus groups? A rush to finish before an actors or writers strike? Apart from Hugh Grants accent, I can barely remember what this is about while I am watching it
Unless you are the person who has endless amounts of time to watch mediocre media, give this one a miss. In a coupe of years time, I expect it will disappear into history and Jason Statham will be wondering how to remove it entirely from his resume
Good action sequences, but is missing something. Plaza's typical offbeat humour felt shoehorned in at times. Good actors but avg script this go round. Ritchie doesn't miss often is what I said w the Covenant. This was one of his lesser efforts but still worth a viewing for Statham's action scenes and Grant's character. 6.3
Aubry sucked mostly, she's gross and not really funny
loved Hugh Grant in that other Guy Ritchie movie "The Gentlemen" and he was great in this one too, the ending scene where he displays his... "insurance" was quite something, also followed with the soundtrack made for a perfect scene
the whole movie's soundtrack was great, also that one moment where Aubrey Plaza gets cuts off mid joke was hilarious
This feels like Guy Ritchie's take on a sort of Bond film. There's nothing unmissable here but it's quite watchable and Hugh Grant is fantastic. I'd happily watch it again down the road.
Hugh Grant is a lot of fun as Greg and I always enjoy Aubrey Plaza, but other than that, there's nothing super remarkable about this. The story is quite bland; the jokes are too many and way too childish; and the action, while not bad, could've been slightly more impressive - which in my opinion might've elevated the movie more. As it stands, it's a very forgettable movie.
It's a good film, entertaining, jokes according to the context. I appreciate the duration and Aubrey is fantastic in every line.
Enjoyable movie, Hugh Grant is great! Not the best but well worth a watch :thumbsup_tone1:.
It is a good movie, you will enjoy your time watching it and won't feel bored at all.
A solid, entertaining, no bullshit, enjoyable action flick. Hugh Grant's performance makes the difference. Although the story is super basic and it does have a lot of flaws, it still is quite a fun ride.
James Bond-style film. Jason Statham and Hugh Grant stand out, not one of Guy Ritchie's best.
Operation Fortune is a decent film. There are moments of Guy Ritchie greatness, but the story failed to draw me in. It just lacked the intelligence and creativity found in Ritchie's other work.
Perfect movie to take a nap
This feels more like someone copying Guy Ritchie's style than an actual Ritchie film. It has his usual flair (quips, shifting story, Jason Statham...) but feels...slightly lesser? It's not bad, but there are better versions of this film that have been done before. I was entertained and there were fun performances by Statham and Aubrey Plaza, but it was very Ritchie-paint-by-numbers.
A mess. It's entertaining, but whatever happened with the story is almost outrageous. It has some of the worst pacing ever.
It's still fun and worth a watch for any Ritchie fan. But very disappointing nevertheless.
Took me an hour to figure out that Hugh Grant is talking like Rick Gervais, might take forever to figure out why though
So lackluster and boring. Don’t bother.
hugh grant was bloody brilliant
Film 26 of 2024 (Aim 300):
Heard some negative things about this but I really enjoyed this. It sits well in the middle of Ritchie's filmography, and that's not a bad thing. It's perfectly acceptable watching. Plaza is great and Hartnett continues his rise back to the A-list.
whats with the weird cuts? the fast talking? the rushed feeling of the ending? this has got to be one of the if not the worst guy ritchie movie
About as bad as Rtichie's King Arthur. So many missed opportunities and generally simply unsatisfying.
Wasn't bad, had a bit of everything, but even with everything, it felt like something was missing. Also, it's very forgettable.
Slow and boring, nothing happens as if it's about to explode.
Rated a Connor 5, normal 7
First movie I have seen without a 2nd act. Quite a travesty, enjoyable regardless.
Another Guy Ritchie classic.
This guy knows how to make action movies with plenty of laughs too.
Obviously you have to check reality at the door, but fortunately it doesn't get stupid unrealistic.
I usually skip Statham movies because he plays the same character in EVERY movie, but he's much better in this even though it is along the same lines.
10/10
An average movie, with an absolutely predictable cliche plot. Not worth the time, unless you are a Stathon fan or if you want to just enjoy some action.
I usually love Hugh Grant, but I couldn't get past him doing a Michael Caine impersonation in this role.
I started it and couldn't watch more than 20 mins of it...
if it weren't for Jason Statham it would be just any movie
Like microwave TV dinners: bland, unremarkable and not very original.
I expected a lot more from Guy Ritchie and a lot less from Hugh Grant who turned in a riveting performance.
I suppose a lot of scenes and oneliners are supposed to be funny...... but they arent.
Probably the worst Statham movie since Crank
Aubrey Plaza definitely carried this one.
The worst film from Guy Ritchie by far.
Dude, that "Aeropuerto de Madrid" building looks like it's from some small town in the middle of nowhere. Madrid's airport is ranked #14 worldwide with over 50 million passengers per year. Have some respect, you dimwit Hollywood producers.
Aubrey Plaza is thoroughly enjoyable, as usual, unfortunately, even she could not carry this film. It's an action movie, like all other action movies, nothing new to see here people.
I watched it for Audrey Plaza. The rest of it's a bit meh.
I would fucking hate to see GR do a Bond movie (it would probs kill 007 off).
Ridiculous nonsense. Still a bit of fun. Not worth a franchise as the characters are so superficial and lack any development. Forgettable
:heart:x6
I pretty much expected a decent B-movie, and thats what I got. It has its charm but also a whole lot of plot holes. And yet it is an enjoyable watch.
How I rate:
1-3  = seriously! don't waste your time
4-6  = you may or may not enjoy this
7-8  = I expect you will like this too
9-10  = movies and TV shows I really love!
It's been a long time since Guy Ritchie made a decent movie. This isn't his worst - Wrath Of Man and Swept Away are contenders for that accolade -but it's still subpar entertainment, made tolerable by a great performance from Aubrey Plaza.
Decent outing from all involved, nothing extra-special though.
At times, it feels like it is trying to be Ocean's Eleven, others a Bond film - but it comes across feeling more like the US remake of the Italian Job.... That cocky nature of knowing you have good source material but needing to present it in a way that is out of the ordinary.
Yet... What we get here is quite ordinary. It's never really as cool as it thinks it is and the final third doesn't have any more energy than the middle third.
Statham is Statham. Grant redoes that voice he did in The Gentleman. Plaza is quirky, sassy and magnetic - so the same as ever ting else she is in... And so on for the rest of the cast.
It's fine. It passes the time and you don't switch it off. And you don't hate it. But you couldn't love it - it's not something you'd rewatch time and again.
7/10
One of those generic action movies that you can find on Netflix. I watched it for Audrey Plaza and she did not disappoint. If only she were the lead character...
Not a typical guy Ritchie film in someways but yes in others. I enjoyed watching as a something to watch & not think after the long day.
I am not an action movie guy. I will give this movie a MEH nothing special. IS it a MUST WATCH? Answer is: Yes.

After the deadly serious "Wrath of Man", Guy Ritchie returns to his humorous roots with "Operation Fortune". I certainly appreciate that. However, Ritchie falls short of matching his previous successes. As always, he has assembled a solid cast, but it is far too large. At least fans of Aubrey Plaza will get their money's worth.
The story is entertaining, but also unnecessarily convoluted. There are numerous scenery changes, a few nice action sequences, and some amusing dialogues. At the same time, you never get the impression that the team of spies at the heart of the story is in any danger.
They're just too cool and laid-back for that.
In the "Mission Impossible" films, Ethan Hunt seems to have things go wrong all the time, which creates thrilling and jaw-dropping moments. Jason Statham's Orson Fortune can only laugh about that. He manages to do everything right away without the slightest flinch. You can certainly do it that way, but then again, it's a bit boring.
"Operation Fortune" is enjoyable enough to keep you entertained for two hours. But, in the end, not much will stick.
