Nocebo 2022

Looked promising, a horror with Eva Green and Mark Strong. But sadly not that interesting compared to the trailer at least.

Loved seeing a fellow Filipina terrorize a white family :heart_eyes::heart_eyes:

Disturbing on so many levels. This is a decent chiller that acts as a savage indictment on the traumas caused by certain elements of the fashon industry.

Not many movies get me focused enough not to realize when it's over, but this one did.

Socio-political environmental body horror. While I agree wholeheartedly with the message, it becomes a bit overbearing.

Also, no flying head aswang.

It was entertaining. I had a good time.

This movie works only because the two lead actresses are doing such an excellent job. Otherwise, the story development would have been too predictable and frankly, I can't imagine anyone else but Eva Green playing Christine. Noone can embody madness and sadness like her.

I went into this with certain biases. First, I'm Filipino, so it was nice seeing a bit of our culture represented. Second, I went to the same school as the actress playing Diana, so I was automatically rooting for her. That said, this is an okay movie. I commend the social commentary it's trying to tell, but the obviousness of it all affected the overall tension for me. Still, I didn't hate the time I spent watching it, and some of said commentary does work.

And it seemed to me a very correct kick at the "white man's burden", neatly wrapped in a wrapper of a mystical story about a disease caught in a tropical far away. With suspense here, by the way, everything is also in order, in some places it will be creepy. Often the "civilized" world forgets that it is very young
