Because of all the great reviews I decided to give this one a go. Definitely not one for me though
.
Even though it is a good movie, I did not really enjoy it as much. It tried to set up a realistic image of small-town boys in a situation you usually don't end up with at that age.
They did a good job acting and story wise, but i simply could not identify with the main characters. This was probably because of multitude of things like the independence of the kids and how they were treated like adults as if it was 200 years ago. But also the completely twisted way they viewed women and relationships. I know this is all to create a certain environment, but I just did not like that environment.
My rating is therefore mostly based on my opinion rather then a technical judgment.
Beautifully filmed Coming-of-Age tale on the Mississippi River.
Mud delivers an interesting plot that makes it a pretty good movie, with Matthew McConaughey's performance being a standout feature. The film's plot is undeniably intriguing. It introduces us to a world of mystery and adventure as we follow two young boys who befriend the enigmatic fugitive, Mud. While the story doesn't redefine the genre, it's engaging enough to keep you invested throughout. The suspense and character dynamics add depth to the narrative, making it a worthwhile watch. While it may not be a cinematic masterpiece, it offers a satisfying viewing experience. If you're a fan of McConaughey or enjoy movies with compelling characters and intriguing plots, give Mud a shot.
Wow my dudes! Cool vibe I kinda dig the homeless/advanterous wanted person vibe. Matt's voice fits the bill! Loved the chemistry betwween Mud and da kidz.
"I like you two boys. You remind me of... me."
A nice slow burn that showcases great filmmaking and stellar performances. 2011-2012 is when Matthew McConaughey started showcasing darker roles and getting away from the romantic comedies and it paid off. I saw people call this Southern Gothic and I am not sure what that means but sounds perfect.
Just watched it the third time. Man, what a movie. Have to give one more.
9/10
All movies focused on kids from the south seem to come off a bit like Stand By Me but that's not necessarily a bad thing. Not sure it needed the bad guy story line as it didn't add to what was supposed to be the moral of the story, other than supplying the ending. Either way, good story. Well casted.
So let me get this straight. I enjoyed a film by Mathew McConahey (sp) and Reese Witherspoon? Sure did. Loved it and highly recommend it. One of the best of the year.

Good movie but it could be wayy better..Too many useless dialogues with no sense just to make it longer.
Mud was disappointing. I never realized Jeff Nichols was so terrible at fight choreography. Every time someone got 'punched' I cringed. It was nothing special overall and the negative aspects dragged it down. It was especially disappointing coming after Take Shelter. McConaughey was the best part of the film.
I do not see what complain about the film, only positive points. The ambience is beautiful. everyone does a great job, but the boys are at the heart of the film. this film shows a real situation of people living in sub-employment, they take your food from fishery, they live in simple house and are constantly changing. What I realized was that the boys from small towns are very independent. know, they do the shopping home alone, drive bike and cars, have good conversation, enjoy playing outdoors, etc.. so for me it was nice to know a little of their lives and make that comparison, this parallel
Took me equally by surprise. Great flick!
Not a fan of Matthew McConaughey, but the movie wasn't bad. Although seems to be another attempt to capture the "Stand by Me" magic.
oh, wow! this caught me off guard... I wasn't expecting to see one off the best movies of 2013! fantastic =)
I loved Jeff Nichols Take Shelter and now this was equally amazing. Simple, solid and beautiful! I haven't seen Shotgun Stories yet but in my point of view he is becoming one of the most promising new directors. Can't wait to hear what Jeff Nichols is going to do next.
Above all this is a film about people, real life situations, relationships, love and trust.
The acting was great by all of the cast but Matthew McConaughey was outstanding and two children were so good! Those two boy are the heart of the film.
Cinematography also great with beautiful shoots over the Mississippi River.
best 2013 movie so far
Great acting. Like it
You won't have to look far to find rave reviews for the movie (7.9@imdb & 99%@RT). Anyways, while it's a well made coming-of-age movie with many strong points it never really grabbed me. There were enough moments to put me out of it and it lets loose towards the end. This is a movie where I wish that there were half points but I could have easily passed on this.
Entertaining adventure movie, funny and thrilling. Matthew McConaughey gives a good performance.
