“ - Jane Smith: Any last words?
- John Smith: The new curtains are hideous.”
Loads of fun, even still. Pitt and Jolie obviously had some great chemistry. The quips between the two and the action scenes work so well.
Well whats there to say about this action romantic comedy starring the beautiful and sultry Angelina Jolie and every womans fanasty Brad Pitt (yes I know Clooney is probably No1, but well, he's not in this movie, lol). Directed by Doug Liman (Swingers, The Bourne Identity, Edge of Tomorrow and the upcoming Splinter Cell movie starring Tom Hardy). Funny and with the on-screen chemistry between Jolie and Pitt themselves enough to forget the poor writing. If you like stylish action comedies and a real chemistry and sexual attraction between the stars then this is the film for you. Turn off the lights, grab the popcorn and just sit back and enjoy.
Me growing up:
FXX: “We have movies.”
Also FXX: “MRR AND MRRRS SMITH BACK TO BACK WEEKEND AGAIN”
Energetic action flick. No real complaints about this movie. I really want to say something bad, but I cannot. I was entertained the whole time.
i'm a mess and you're a disaster
How can you not like this film? humor and action in the right dose, the chemistry that these two have is sensational, them arguing at the same time as they work together, there is a total harmony at the same time as it is chaotic, I always have a lot of fun watching it.
I hadn't seen this in 15 years. I thought the casting was all it was remembered for but the movie is a lot of fun. Not too much convoluted plot like modern spies movies. Good pace.
Pitt and Jolie; what a team, what a marriage!
"Oh, and, we've remodelled the house!"
Funny Movie but not very special
"Who's your Daddy now?"
I want to start this review with this: I almost want to say that this film was a little too long. That was my spontaneous thought. But upon thinking about it, that's probably more because longer films/films creeping into the territory of two hours, like this film, or much deeper into two hours or even longer than that, are frightening, you could say. I guess if the film is pretty good, that won't matter that much; first, I have to overcome that fear/apprehension concerning the decision-making process, to go on ahead and begin watching a film like that.
With that said, the length of this film doesn't seem to matter. I was thoroughly entertained, throughout me, watching it. I've seen this film before, for the first time back in August of 2018. And I remember enjoying it and being entertained. But I feel like, now, I liked it a lot more.
The performances by Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie were impeccable for this type of film, and their chemistry was sizzling. Not that something so obvious needs to be said/likely reiterated, but screw it: they/their characters were undoubtedly the best part of this film. And that kind of needs to be the point, as they are the main characters. Duh. Well, they were, so that's a huge plus.
Michael Kaplan's work as the costume designer for this film, while subtle, it was borderline impeccable. Pretty much every single outfit you see on Brad and Angelina was great. Especially Brad; the clothes wore him, not the other way around. Does that make sense? I don't think it does. I was trying to be a little cheeky there, but I probably failed. The point is: that the costume design was great. My favorite one was the suits and yellow sunglasses at the end.
And the action sequences were quite explosive. I was not expecting them to be so good; the firefights, especially. Mostly everything about them was surprisingly good. How the 'what' and 'how' of them were conducted, the practical/technical aspects. That aspect is yet another huge plus. That's three for three.
The story wasn't much, and I'm sure some people can find instances of poor writing and the like; tearing it apart. But to me, the story didn't seem to matter that much. This film was more character-driven, with the story and narrative details being a somewhat important backdrop. And I think the story and narrative details contributed enough to the film, in the sense of putting good pieces on the board, but that the two main characters are what make it worth watching.
Other thoughts:
There were some familiar faces: Vince Vaughn, Kerry Washington, Jennifer Morrison, Michelle Monaghan. The only one I've seen in another film is Vince Vaughn, though; Hacksaw Ridge. But how can you not recognize or have heard of those four?
There were also somewhat familiar voices: Angela Bassett and Keith David. Keith's voice stood out a lot, and I swear I've heard it before, but I can't remember from where, what video game, most likely. I didn't necessarily recognize Angela's voice. But I recognize her name.
Maybe I was the only one who heard it, but Adam Brody sounded a bit like Ben Shapiro in this film: especially in the motel scene.
The score that played during the end credits sounded very reminiscent of The Bourne Trilogy, or at least a specific Bourne film. It may have been the same one, one that was in a Bourne film. This film and The Bourne Identity, the first Bourne film, were directed by Doug Liman. But upon looking it up, the more important thing is that John Powell composed both this film and The Bourne Identity, so there you go. That's why the score during the credits sounded like a score you'd hear in one or more of the Bourne films.
In short, I loved this film quite a bit. The performances by Brad and Angelina/their characters, the action, the outfits, and even the humorous moments, were all pretty decent and elevated the watching experience. I think this film was a classic, and if it's not considered one, that's a shame, IMHO. Just like This Means War, this film is at a high level of rewatchability, but even more. I feel like the former was funnier, while this film was better.
i love this movie :) love u brad
just an okay fun movie. nothing much. the attractive leads sure do help keeping you glued to the screen.
Probably the best one between this, Knight and Day, and This Means War.
Sadly, in hindsight, the plot premise is dumb nonsense.
Actually better and more elaborate than I remembered. The acting is great and the dialogue and action scenes live up to that. It's realistic action with actually funny humor. This is what a action comedy should be like. (okay sure, or Johnny English)
8.5/10 for me
Mr & Mrs Smith - :heart:x7
Rewatched this tonight, and it's still as fun as I remember.
How I rate:
1-3  = seriously! don't waste your time
4-6  = you may or may not enjoy this
7-8  = I expect you will like this too
9-10  = movies and TV shows I really love!
Entertaining movie... reminiscent in parts of War of the Roses with an extra helping of spygames and chemistry between the characters.
In today's cinema landscape, a film like "Mr. & Mrs. Smith" would almost certainly never make it to the big screen. In the mid-2000s, however, star power was still enough to get the green light for such an expensive production, which is not based on any source material. I definitely miss those days a bit, even if I didn't even like the film itself that much. While the action is quite entertaining, the interplay between Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie just didn't convince me for long stretches of the running time. That's obviously a problem, given that it's the obvious focal point of the story. Only towards the end did things improve in this regard. Furthermore, the spy plot also left me cold. Instead of nameless antagonists, more exciting characters would have been appreciated. Ultimately, "Mr. & Mrs. Smith" is a perfectly adequate action romantic comedy, but it can't even begin to live up to its potential.
Fun movie. But abrupt ending.
interesting concept and times of funny, quippy dialogue overrun by senseless violence (especially at end) and some questionable story decisions and plot holes
This movie is absolutely loved by so many! The chemistry is obviously undeniable between Jolie and Pitt, but the plot does little to stand out to me compared to many other movies. It’s a nice quality movie, and certainly worth watching!
Rating: 3/5 - 7.5/10 - Worth Watching
A different action and spy video! Pete and Angelina Julie's moderation was perfectly suited. The story of a couple who has a big secrets in their six-year life. The rats that seem to be more important. The couple in the film figure out interesting events that produce acceptable action and attractive comedy!
Today I started a second view, this movie is still hilarious and well-acted. I had this fantasy about a reboot starring Depp&Heard .. Watch this movie and think of a reboot .. ITS A MATCH!
Like the first time you tried pop rocks, exciting, hilarious and the most fun you've had in a while. One of the best action / comedies of all time.
this was a fantastic movie when it came out and it's still so much fun to watch 16 years later. you can tell they had a blast filming this movie, and the quality is amazing. definitely one of my go-to's for action-romance.
A clever enough film with a lot of explosions and decent action, but the lengthy final act outstays it’s welcome.
Enjoyable movie. Mostly suffers from being unrealistic not beacuse they're both assassins thats what makes a movie a movie, but from the fact that they didn't die. I mean after every thing they went through im pretty sure one of them would've died. They didn't have to make the stakes so high, but overall enjoyable.
When this first cam out, I had no interest in watching this movie. It wasn't until after the whole Brad and Angelina scandal that this movie became such a big deal. I eventually watched it out of curiosity and wasn't overly impressed. I think the hype has more to do with their affair than with the movie itself.
