Some robots running around in the jungle killing some people. It could be worse but it is not so much boring at all. The robots are fine, looking real. Docs are ok and our protagonist Rambo is ok. It is just very long, more than 2 hrs.
This doesn't suck. It's remarkably un-sucky if you're looking to scratch a sci-fi robot itch. I enjoyed it and if you go in with the correct expectations and are in the mood for a movie like this, you will too.
Looks like the writers spent too much time watching 90's b-grade sci fi, and then modernised it
All the usual cliches are here:
- dumb Americans wandering around in places they shouldn't be
- a complete inability for people to keep quiet even when being stalked by robots
- AI going rogue
- Americans (in this case, American robots) being awful shots (but having a lot of ammunition)
- people who should die from their injuries showing remarkable resilience
- stereotypical computer nerds (seriously, why are movie nerds so unrealistic?)
- secret Govt operation being run by layers of sweary evil bureaucrats from the industrial-military complex
On the bright side, it was a pretty good example of the use of music to generate suspense in what is basically a lot of people out of their natural environment running around shouting
Make no mistake about it. This is a B-movie and should really be judged as such. As a B-movie it is a decent enough movie. It ticks off quite a few of the WTF points that B-movies tend to, well, just do for no good reason. It does tick off one or two good points as well and on the whole I cannot say that I regretted spending a bit more than two hours on this movie.
The story is not really bad but rather overused and predictable. The science, especially the computer science, is written by someone rather clueless when it comes to informatics.
On the other hand the robots are not really bad at all. The look sufficiently menacing but at the same time they look like a concept that could actually work. My two biggest gripes with the robots are that they shoot worse than imperial stormtroopers and their sensor suite sucks. I mean, come on, they do not seem to have anything else than normal visuals and audio. No radar, lidar. Not even thermal imaging for Christ sake!
The characters and in particular their acting sucks as one would expect from a B-movie but it is tolerable. What is less tolerable is perhaps that they have chosen to include another classical B-movie trait. Most of the characters are useless and dysfunctional, screaming and arguing all the time. The two groups of people in the story are totally dysfunctional as groups and the only difference between the good guys and the bad guys is that the latter have a bunch of bona fide psychopaths among them.
As I wrote, the story is decent for a B-movie but overused and very, very predictable. Unfortunately the ending is really crappy. It is like the writer run out of steam and just wanted to get it over with. It is a bit of a shame because the rest of the movie could easily be shortened 20 or so minutes. There’s some rather unnecessary fillers. With that time spent on a better ending this might have gotten a 3 out of 5 stars rating instead.
Verdict, if you are a sci-fi, and to a lesser extent horror, movie fan it is worth watching as a popcorn flick when you have nothing better to do but that’s about it.
Don’t let the CGI suck you in. This is very much a B movie with overly emotional acting.
Personally loved it. Story isn't mind blowing but the movie itself is quite realistic. I've seen better robot movement in other movies but its not bad. Its not Avenger quality movie but i still think you should watch it. I gave it 7/10.
I liked this movie a lot. If you are reading the comments to decide if you should watch it, yes go watch it. It is the best you can get these times :) I just had a problem with one moment in the movie. So he "kills" one robot by hitting on his head, but why in hell they all jump over the other robot while it is stuck and don't break it? Oke so I accepted they don't attack the robot, but whyyy do they leave the weapon there? It really is a moment that spoils such a great movie.
This would be a fine (7 or 8) film if it was half as long. For a shooty, military complex bad, morality based movie it ain't half bad, but it's far to drawn out to be engaging. The central theme of the movie is a bit derivative, but it seems well made. Acting is fine too, save some actors laying it on too thick. You could do worse watching this, but better films are available. If you need a movie to watch while highly distracted: This is the one.
the only reason i rated it 7 and not 9 or 10 was because it didn't have a proper ending... felt incomplete not knowing what happened next
Masterpiece :) 10 of 10 :D
Not great but watchable, think it went on a bit too long though.
The acting wasn't brillant, but the actors did a good job. I read that this movie was the first work of director who has no experience, and for that alone it deserves respect. Its a solid 6 because its a decent action flick but story not so innovative. The CGI was good and robots looked good too. If you have a few hours to kill you could do worse than watch this.
i feel offended after watching this movie.. do not waste time.. and, i struggle to understand how there's people that even voted a 6 or more.. wtf
I just could not force myself to finish this movie. After the first hour is just skipped most of the rest. Bloated with annoying characters and horrible acting. The only plus I saw was the design of the mechs, nothing else. Just watch Predator instead.
The robots look awesome and are terrifying at the same time, the acting isn't bad and the setting/tone of the movie works,
but like others already said: it feels too long. 100 minutes would have done it aswell.
All in all, if you are in the mood for a movie with good cgi and army robots give this one a try.
A definite ass kicking fest, if you like robots and guns and the obvs goes rogue storyline you’ll love this
Absolute garbage. Avoid, at all cost.
Besides the awful crying I had to listen to for five minutes after the death of his father drug manufacturer. It was a decent movie.
:asterisk_symbol::asterisk_symbol::asterisk_symbol:Again could have done without the obnoxious crying:asterisk_symbol::asterisk_symbol::asterisk_symbol:
Much better then expected. Although I've found that many films and series made in Australia, and have Australian actors are pretty good quality. A least equal to US films. The acting was pretty good for most of the actors. Good effects. It didnt disappoint for anyone liking those realistic injury scenes.
8 out of 10 for a "bad robot's" type show.
I thought I'd wasted my time after first few minutes then really enjoyed it, not your typical hero saves the day
The larger storyline of the movie is dwarfed by the soppy emotional lines & less than average acting... if they had have left some of that out & made it purely a sci fi/survival movie, I'd probably give it a nod. Look out for muscly mercenary thug with awful script & perverse facial hair.
Mixture of good to mediocre acting with some surprisingly outstanding scenes by the child actor. Storyline does not have a lot of depth but if you enjoy this genre like I do you will like this movie.
Gave it a slightly higher score in hopes of a sequel. :)

I was waiting for the robot to say "number 5 is alive"
The movie wasn't horrible, but it wasn't great either. It was way too long at 2 hrs 11 minutes and really should have been 45 minutes shorter. There were lots of useless scenes meant to add drama, but only added to the cringe level. The acting wasn't bad for what the movie is... I think it's worth the watch if nothing else is around
