Michael Clayton 2007

"I'm not the guy you kill. I'm the guy you buy! Are you so fucking blind that you don't even see what I am? I sold out Arthur for 80 grand. I'm your easiest problem and you're gonna kill me?"

George Clooney kills it in this one! He's perfect for the role. The story keeps you at the edge of your seat and near the end the tension keeps growing.

Michael Clayton wasn't the movie I was expecting at all but I'm happy for that. Sometimes it is great to be surprised. Haven't seen that many legal thrillers but I might have to seek more of them out.

Best bit? The opening dialogue and the final scene. Starts off strong and ends on high!

Michael Clayton was great. With a fantastic script and cast, there wasn't any need to resort to action to keep things suspenseful or tense. The opening monologue was particularly cool and a great way to start the movie.

Good paranoid thriller in the style of the ones made in the 70s.
The first 30 minutes or so are so confusing that it will put a lot of people off. But it gets better once you know who the characters are and what the story is about (if you haven't read the synopsis).

A pretty good script that’s kneecapped by weaker direction. It clearly takes a lot of inspiration from The Insider, and I think in some ways it’s a more mature take on the ideas of that film. There are some interesting themes worked in here about the line between rationality and irrationality. George Clooney proves he can still act when he doesn’t rely on his typical George Clooney shtick, Tilda Swinton’s great as usual and Tom Wilkinson nails the most flashy, interesting part of the film. However, there’s something about the editing, cinematography, sound and blocking/staging that never manages to lift itself beyond average for me. It’s professional and classy, but also unexciting and unmemorable for the most part. Overall, this is too accomplished to neglect, but I wish the material was handed to someone like David Fincher.

6/10

A deceptively delicious movie that has taken me by surprise as I’ve gotten older. I watched this during my first year in law school before I had any practical work experience, but the movie became way better after I spent a brief time in the murky waters of large-scale litigation and corporate intrigue. Illustrates beautifully the emotional toll that corporations take on their employees.

Great script and performances plagued by a super-boring premise. 7/10

Great Ending but a long boring movie.

I'm not a fan of George Clooney the person, but I loved his performance in this movie. His second scene with Tilda Swinton near the end of the movie is one of the best scenes in film-history. Such a simple premise but such a thought-provoking one. I give it a 10 out of 10.

I enjoyed this film far more than I thought I would. It started out as a bit of a character study and I always like that. As the film neared the end it wound up being a bit of a thriller and that was a little unexpected. Despite the fact that the plot picked up it never lost site of the fact that the film was about the characters and not the plot twists. That's the difference between a film like this and something like State of Play.

Nothing particularly special about this movie. Clooney was fine. Just found it to be a little boring and some parts confusing.
