I was pleasantly surprised by the layers of parody and homage in the screenplay.
On the surface, this is Yet Another Animated Superhero Film. Deep down… well, it's still that. As it's targeted at younger audiences, the plot is neither complex nor filled with unpredictable twists. Older viewers like myself will see everything coming from miles away—but it's a fairly enjoyable ride.
Something about the vocal performances, and/or how they were tied into the character models, felt "off" the whole time, unfortunately. Other animation studios have a better handle on melding the elements of an animated character into one cohesive whole, but I should also cut DreamWorks Animation some slack on this ten-year-old film.
What makes this a solid 7/10 for me despite the predictable story beats and technical production values was the core of this story: Megamind's development as a person. In the end, he's the only important thing in the movie. Sure, the action sequences were pretty well done. Yes, Minion was a great (riff on the archetype of) sidekick. But if Megamind didn't grow and change as the story progressed, this would have fallen flat.
In a perfect world, the deus ex machina part of the ending when Metroman "came back" would have been real, but I'm nitpicking again.
Worth a watch. Maybe don't buy it for your permanent library, but Megamind is certainly good enough for some evening when you want something decently amusing to watch that won't require a ton of focus to understand.
I thought it was going to be some lame movie but I'm glad my friends convinced me. A lot of fun and originality to be had here. Definitely recommended.
Absolutely wonderful, from the makers of Madagascar 1 & 2. Tight plot, deep character development and lots of whit and pop culture references. I know some consider Despicable Me to be the bees knees, but to me this whipes the floor with it on all levels. One for all ages.
"Megamind" is a good but mostly forgettable animation action movie. It's got likeable characters some neat action set pieces and really impressive 3D. Metro Man is a superhero I'd like to see get his own movie and Titan would be a worthy lunk of an adversary. The main villian Megamind is the problem here. He starts out too likeable as the baddie so when his plan to thwart Metro Man actually works he's left as the lead in the movie. But he's really kind of boring as a villian and he's generic as a reformed good guy.
Again there are some really terrific 3D tricks in this. It looks fantastic and there are some pretty clever laughs throughout. But "The Incredibles" it ain't.
An aspie's vision of the world. By the way, great soundtrack.
Much like Shrek took a jab at fairy tales, Megamind took a jab at superheroes. Mankind really peaked with this movie.
Outrageously funny, Megamind is a smart and inspired spoofing of the superhero genre. After defeating his archnemesis, supervillain Megamind goes through an existential crisis and seeks to give his life meaning again by creating a new superhero to do battle with. Featuring the voice talents of Will Ferrell, Tina Fey, Jonah Hill, Brad Pitt, and David Cross, the cast is quite impressive, and they deliver great performances that give the characters personality. Also, the animation is remarkably well-done, with rich designs and vivid colors. And the soundtrack, which includes songs from AC/DC, Guns N’ Roses, and Ozzy Osbourne, is extraordinary, and gives the film a lot of energy that complements the action. Incredibly fun and entertaining, Megamind delivers a lot of laughs.
I enjoyed this film a lot, recently I finished The Boys Season 1 and I will say that this is kinda The Boys for kids. Always avoided this film because of the character designs, but gave it a watch and I can say it is a fun watch for both adults and kids alike.
Without fathom, one of the best-animated films ever made. Great for when you're feeling down. The mispronunciation gag is genius. #bluelivesmatter
One of the best kids movies that I’ve ever seen ,you will love it,
just watch it.
A try hard villain without a hero has no purpose, different, i like it, and Will Ferrell does a great job 7/10
I must be alone because I found this to be boring beyond belief. Normally this is my bag. I loved the Madagascars, the Ice Ages (though also found Robots, Blue Skys other film, boring), Pixar et al. Recently only Despicable Me has hit home with both Megamind and Shrek Forever After just not delivering.
Fatalmuzza we will just have to continue to agree to disagree ;)
I expected this to be another animated movie that would be okay, but too predictable and not really very funny. Now that I've seen it, I have to admit I really enjoyed the (intentionally) super-stereotypes in story and characters, the humor that both children and adults can enjoy, and the pop references were just great!
Obviously not the best movie ever, but if you can appreciate animated comedies (and I guess you also have to be a boy to like the whole superhero/supervillain theme), this is one of the better recent animated efforts.
Darkly comic meditation on heroism and destiny. The vocal performances are a little off-putting, for some reason. David Cross is the only actor who nailed his (or her) performance. Still, some laugh-out-loud moments and certainly worth seeing.
Thinking he got rid of his arch enemy Metro Man (Brad Pitt) for good. Megamind creates a new superhero Titan voiced by Jonah Hill. Except Titan doesn't want to be a hero...While Megamind finds himself having a crush on Roxanne (Tina Fey); the woman he has always captured to lure out Metro Man.
I found the action to actually be more fun than the humor since the animation is pretty great during those scenes.
Kids wanted to see this. follow for a follow
Fun movie my 3 year old nephew called everyone minion for a few weeks after seeing this.
Really good film, throughly enjoyed it, loved the donkey kong take!!
Superb for the kids!
It's an oft-used, often mis-used, phrase in cinema discourse, but I'm just gonna come out and say it: I think Megamind is underrated. I will never understand how Despicable Me launched a billion dollar tentpole franchise with spin-offs and merch galore, whereas Megamind seems to have been largely forgotten. Actually, I kind of do understand. Despicable Me was much more targeted toward younger kids (i.e., kid protagonists, fluffy unicorns, Minions, etc.). But still, Megamind deserved better. An absolutely stacked cast, clever premise, and hilarious writing. I've never been a huge Will Farrell fan, with his comedy often being too over-the-top for me, but he was the perfect choice for this role.
This movie is...shockingly amazing? And clever? And well-paced? And subversive? How did I not realize this?
Great soundtrack, great cast, great humor. the only bad thing were the good guys huehuehue.
DreamWorks delivers its own twist on the golden age of pulp superheroes, staging an ongoing struggle between one extreme (noble but cocky muscle) and another (selfish but grounded intellect). Pretty paint-by-numbers stuff until the villain abruptly succeeds in offing his nemesis, surprising even himself, and the whole world turns on its ear. Unprepared for the responsibility and scrutiny of rule, Megamind immediately yearns for simpler times, concocts a new heroic foil and drastically worsens the situation.
In that it’s a CG family film, centered around superheroes, from the villain’s POV, it’s only natural that Megamind should borrow from / compete with The Incredibles and Despicable Me. And, while it doesn’t benefit from those comparisons - lacking the energy of the former and the heart of the latter - it still finds room to surprise and do its own thing. The plot’s main thrust is an inspired take, a sort of “What If” tale about Lex Luthor finally tackling Superman, facing some difficult realities and ultimately growing as an individual. It acknowledges and corrupts a number of recurring tropes from the genre, twisting overplayed scenarios in fresh and interesting new ways. Unfortunately, the visuals are dated and low-grade, even by 2010 standards, and the humor doesn’t connect as often as it should. Will Ferrell has zero room for improvisation in the lead role, and turns in a rather dull, workmanlike performance as a result.
All in all, this isn’t great, but it’s certainly good enough to merit the ninety minutes. Which, honestly, is a lot more than I was expecting.
These are always safe easy watches. Entertaining enough to sit safely in good territory. Personally think Metro Man should have been voiced by Bruce Campbell if for the reason is that the resemblance is uncanny.
megamind mind more like the megabest
Why did this not get a sequel but BOSS BABY did?!
What a wonderful, original movie! Deserves at least one sequel.
god this movie was ugly
It's definitely an underrated movie.
Another mediocre animated movie about Good VS Evil. There are some funny aspects and scenes, granted, but I just don't think that another movie with this theme was necessary. On the plus side, however, it sure as hell is not the baddest movie out there and you can spend 90 minutes in much stupider ways (but, alas, ninety minutes can also be spent so much wiser :-)).

Second time thru the entire movie and it's been fun. It's a 'criminal'ly insane riot, lol.
