Are we just ignoring the fact that dead-Sheila is still in the trunk of alive-Sheila's car?
This movies has a certain underlying Groundhog Day-ish feeling to it, but in this instance it's voluntarily made. It shows us a different kind of "self-made" time travel, with a main character being in a downward spiral into insanity who can only go back in time for 24 hours at a time of their choosing. That concept is actually pretty interesting but throughout only superficial, sadly. It misses some marks where it could have gotten a deeper meaning about love, time travel and stuff.
How (or why) the time travel is achieved is irrelevant, portrayed in the movie by using a tan bed and saying this is a time machine, in a nail salon, let's go.
At parts like those, it's silly, at others it's cute af, but always somewhat toxic.
Our main heroine, Sheila, is suicidal and decides one day to kill herself but gets a last few drinks in a bar.
There she meets her "true love" Gary, with whom she has the perfect date over and over again for a year until she gets weary of his personality and antics. In reality, she fixates on him, obsesses over him to make him the best version possible with the help of some time travel into his past, playing his uncle so he has a father figure in his live and such. After some time she starts to constantly tell him, she's suicidal, she's going to kill herself, this is the place she would do it and such. Driving him away each time but she never let's him go.
You could argue she distracts herself from her suicidal tendencies because she doesn't "really want to kill herself" but that is still a sign of her bad state of mental health. She never kills herself in this simply because the time travel isn't automatically done as in Groundhog Day, killing herself would mean she can't go back 24 hours to meet Gary again.
The issue with that, when we ignore time travel for a second, Sheila is emotionally abusive towards Gary. She uses her suicidal tendencies to guilt trip Gary into a relationship at the end and we, the audience, are supposed to think aww cute they get together after all due to love. But no, there's nothing healthy about this.
For Gary there's always this contrary feeling of loving her and wanting to throw her "in front of a train" as he said. But he can never leave without having to fear she's going to kill herself. The fact that he, at the end, let's her decide on her own does not negate this underlying issue and feeling he has in their relationship.
There's nothing cute about toxic, abusive relationships and movies should not romanticize them.
That's where this otherwise cute, "fluffy" movie takes a weird, dark turn and falls apart.
Cuoco/Davidson portray their characters good, though.
It's a so-so movie, with good and bad parts but an intriguing concept that is not fully explored.
I don't care about reviews. but this movie really delivered.
It's romantic and desperate. Actors really delivered a great performance.
I promise any two couples will enjoy this movie.
I had never heard of this movie until I saw it advertised on Peacock. Time travel rom com with Pete Davidson and Kaley Cuoco? What could go wrong? Let’s just say, it’s more understandably straight to Peacock than it is near the top of either of the two leads best work. It’s certainly serviceable. Mildly entertaining. But also, there’s just better comparable movies out there. Did I enjoy myself? Absolutely. Would I rather watch Palm Springs 9 times out of 10 over this? Hell yeah.
Rating: 2.5/5 - 7/10 - Worth Watching
a kind of american "about time"...
kinda need that time machine idk
It was ok. But maybe because I like time-travel movies. Too bad that (similar to other time-travel movies) they did not adhere to any time-travel logic and did whatever. Not that that's the biggest problem here. That would be the nonexistent chemistry between the two main characters and also nonexistent reason why she is so obsessed with him. A bit different casting and better writer, and this could have been much better.
Good funny, easy to watch
At the point where the lady time traveller says she killed the other her from the existing time line, the movie changes for me. If I was on a date with her, the date would be over right there. That is also how I felt about this movie as a watcher.
This is a ROMANTIC COMEDY! It's called "Meet Cute." It's supposed to be light and fun and happy. The person you are supposed fall in love with in a romantic comedy doesn't tell you she just pointlessly killed someone and you ignore it and have a happy ending....
They made the wrong kind of movie!
Also, Pete Davidson is not attractive. He is not the type of man a woman goes to a bar and stares at all night because of his looks. Everything about this movie is wrong.
And it gets worse....
If for some CRAZY reason you decide to keep watching the movie past the common sense stopping point....you end up having to WITNESS the MURDER!
THAT JUST PISSED ME OFF! I was trying to be nice and watch the movie for a few moments more, BUT THAT HAD TO HAPPEN! Casual murder in a romantic comedy.
Yuck!
:heart:x7
This was better than expected. It actually had me choking up a little at the end. Cuoco really showed some depth here.
This is a different kind of Groundhogs Day. It's a Groundhogs Day by choice.
How I rate:
1-3  = seriously! don't waste your time
4-6  = you may or may not enjoy this
7-8  = I expect you will like this too
9-10  = movies and TV shows I really love!
Beautifully shot but a little thin in the story progression.
'Meet Cute' is weak.
From the get-go, really, I didn't click with this one. I will say that Kaley Cuoco is decent, not that her performance is anything all that notable but she is the film's standout in my opinion. This is the first time I've seen her act in a meaty role, same goes for Pete Davidson actually - and he's meh, one or two moments but overall forgettable here.
To reach for positives, I note that New York City looks neat and the plot isn't as repetitive as I thought it was going to be whilst watching. The filmmakers mix it up enough, the problem is moreso that what is portrayed isn't all that captivating to watch - not helped by Cuoco and Davidson lacking true chemistry, which is of course a necessity for a romcom.
About Time gone wrong. Was intriguing till the halfway mark. The final act made zero sense.
This movie tackles serious topics while (whilst?) oscillating between dark and silly humor. I don’t think this will be a rewatch but if I had a Time Machine, I wouldn’t go back and change a thing. I think it was perfectly cast. There are some inconsistencies but the underlying message is there. It’s a good movie to watch while you’re avoiding responsibilities.
Shite. Mindless drivel. Gave it 20 mins and wanted to dive onto a row of sharp knives.
Kaley Cuoco and Pete Davidson have absolutely no chemistry whatsoever. Outside of Big Bang she's never proven that she can actually act - and let's be honest she wasn't THAT special in that either.. Perhaps that was the highlight of her entire career and that's as good as she's ever going to be.
I kept thinking of "Groundhog Day" while watching "Meet Cute". In that film, there is a scene in which Bill Murray's character, Phil, tries to plan the perfect date. It's amusing throughout and has a satisfying resolution.
"Meet Cute" is exactly that, albeit in a terrible way. Kaley Cuoco and Pete Davidson, both of whom I like, have no chemistry with each other whatsoever. But they're also not good on their own in this movie. The humor also didn't work for me at all. And since I didn't like the characters, I couldn't relate to the dramatic moments either.
The makers don't know what to do with the somewhat interesting basic concept of a time loop or time travel. Character development is minimal, and the locations are also uninteresting. You have to look for creativity with a microscope. The film is only 90 minutes long, but it feels three hours long. It's a really dull flick from start to finish.
There is something about Pete he always chooses good projects. This is a actually a good movie. A MUST WATCH!
I honestly feel like this movie actually delivered on a lot of aspects. It definitely has a vision and a theme, which I appreciate, and it didn’t feel boring at any moment (even if frustrating at times).

This deals with more serious issues than other movies of its kind but despite some brave choices, the end result is still a little underwhelming.
