Name a good threquel, go ahead, I'll wait. When I arrived in the cinema to see Maze Runner: Death Cure I saw a father with his teenaged daughter and a gaggle of her friends filling the center of a row. He beamed, so proud to bring his daughter and her skwad to the movies and they were so excited to be there. Then, as the disaster unfolded before me (the silly script, the lazy special effects, the ocean of cliches, and the dependence on deus ex machina for every cliff hanger) I kept thinking back to the father and how he would take the girls' disappointment personally and would stay awake late tonight fretting about how his daughter's ruined slumber party wasn't his fault. The real tragedy is that, after two bearable films (honestly, they were better than Hunger Games or the Divergence trilogies), we were betrayed by this lifeless mess. Leaving the cinema tonight, we were all that despondent dad.
If you liked the other ones then you will probably like this one. There is a decent amount of action but man there are a lot of eye roll moments too. The more I thought about it during the movie the more I start to side with WCKD. Those kids need to look at the big picture of the entire human race.
I expected to get some questions answered and I got almost none of them answered. To say a few:
-Why did Thomas do what he did and more importantly what did he do? This was not elaborated on at all other than the few vague lines and scenes we got on the 1st movie
-Why/How did Thomas and Theresa end up in the maze?
-Was WCKD good or bad? (Maybe this was let up to the viewer)
-What was the whole point of attacking the city other than cool explosions and action shots? This didn’t seem to be a major plot point especially with Thomas being there, Also, who was Lawrence? and why purpose did he serve other than none?
-How did no one at WCKD know about Thomas’s “special immunity”? You’d think they’d test their employees before hiring them given the circumstances.
-Why did it seem like not everyone was on the same page about the cure? That was the purpose of WCKD right?
-Why did Theresa even “betray” them in the first place? I get she just wanted to find a cure but what?
I feel like it had potential but it just devolved into mostly mindless action scenes and facepalm moments ( Like Theresa’s death I mean COME ON ) that just watered down the conclusion of a story that had so much potential and had me so interested in the beginning although I will admit Gally's return did surprise me. Nevertheless we never got the Thomas/Ava moment I was hoping for which, in turn, could have also lead to some of explanations to the above questions. Some of the side characters are just there to tug hearts ( RIP Newt ) or to just be there so you have some known faces to look at. All in all not a terrible conclusion to the saga but also not a great one… Just a cliché fest which comes expected with this sort of source material so no mayor points docked there for my taste. Kudos for the VFX, Some of the score and the Direction.

P.S The bus crane scene has been added to my not-even-a-tiny-bit-belivable scenes list cause I don’t care how much movies play around with stuff like physics but they gotta at least try for me. I’m sorry, all of those kids would have died.
The city needs to be protected with big walls from cranks but the rebels have jack shit and are fine? There were so many things wrong in the movie that it's not even funny. If you're able to look past that it's entertaining although super cliche.
The first thing wrong was the train chasing scene. It's infesting how the train could stop exactly where newt etc were. It's in fact unbelievable; which is not good.
when will interesting, complicated and imperfect female characters not be killed off. I. Am. Tired.
Too dragged out with recurring saved-at-the-last-moment situations and melodramatic drama. Some cool action scenes mixed in.
This movie is just okay. The action and the effects are good when they happen and the acting of the main character is pretty good as well. However, everything else with the movie is complete shit. The story is completely incoherent.
Why are they going after the asian character anyway? It doesn't explain it whatsoever. I thought maybe it was going to be a big revelation at the end and then nothing happened. They killed over 20 of their own people to save 1 guy. (sorry I forgot his name in the movie)
There were way too many coincidentl moments in the film. The movie is literally built on a coincidence. When a character, mostly Thomas, is in a about-to-die situation other characters come to the rescue just in the nic of time. I wouldn't mind it if it was once or twice but 5+ is really annoying
This is my biggest problem. Thomas worked for WCKD in the beginning of the first movie before his memory was wiped and dropped into the Maze. At the end of this movie its found out that Thomas's blood is the key to the cure. So this movie is telling me that THEY DIDNT TEST THEIR EMPLOYEES FOR THE CURE. ARE YOU FUCKING SERIOUS. THAT IS THE FIRST THING YOU DO. AGAIN ITS JUST A COINCIDENCE.
Boring and Teresa's death? COME ON! She could have jumped 3 hours ago, at least try ffs...
I loved part 1, I liked part 2, and I have mixed feelings about this part, the third and final part. To not spoil anything, there are just far too many questions left unanswered. Although, this is more often the case.
In comparison to the 2 other comparable youth movies that were of the same time as the first Maze Runner, which are the Hunger Games and the Divergent series, this one is the only one I can say about that they can be proud of having delivered a great movie experience. After all, the last Hunger Games movie was far below standard of all the other movies, although this has to do with sticking closely to the books, while Divergent is going to be finished by a TV movie with close to, or even fully, none of the known stars of the big screen movies.
It is why I love Maze Runner the way I do, as they basically were the underdog when the announcements came of it being filmed, while in the end they are the only one who have delivered quality from start to finish. One of the best youth movie series in the recent years.
I was looking forward to watch this movie since it was announced. The maze runner was a great trilogy with greats actors according to me. I was sad to see how one of my favorite characters ended up but that's life. I was hoping until the end a twist, to see him breath again and being cured with the vaccine.. Sad with the ending but cool to see how every one has evolved throughout the trilogy from simple kids to people trying to save their friends by every move necessary. Great movie!
The trilogy is so bad, and stupid, and cringe, that I didn't even watch. Also, how stupid you have to be to create a virus without a vaccine?:DDD
I needed a movie in the background that wouldn't distract me and this was perfect. I enjoyed the first one.
The movie wasn't bad but It was just too different from the book for me to really care about it
I rolled my eyes several times during the premiere screening of this millennial gem; am in my early 20's, I may be excused for liking it a freakin' lot.
What started out as an adventure, ended up transitioning into a sci-fi thriller toward the end of the third part - with a few heart-breaking moments I wished had been more intense. I wished they had given the display of emotion more screen time of which there simply wasn't enough. Action, action, action! I guess I really wanted it to stay an adventure until the very end; I understand the decision to turn the series into a thriller. Makes sense. We needed closure and closure we got!
We're back to square one - with just one group of people saved and everyone else left behind on the mainland.
The virus is air-borne, and it is still gonna kill everybody on the mainland.
The open-ended ending seals the fate of the human race. It is an apocalypse... the story, an example of pure fatalism.
And I am sorry for Thomas losing Teresa & Newt... their deaths made me shed a few tears.
I can't remember much of the first two films in this series. I actually can't remember why I even watched the first. But, it was nice to see the series finish up on the big screen, having I watched the first two on video.
The one thing this film has going for it is a constant sense of moment and urgency. And this is a great thing because the running time of the film is so long. The opening train sequence was Fast and Furious-like and worked very well. There are other action sequences spread throughout the film, they are fairly generic, but well-done. The special effects in the film were also impressive.
There are no Oscar-worthy performances in the film, but the actors all do give it all they have and it shows.
Overall, I am glad this this series got a big screen finale -- unlike the YA series that I begrudgingly watched and didn't get a finale, Divergent. This film is well put together, exciting and was worth watching on the big screen.
I like the the books. The movies are OK.
Well we've come to the end of the maze and It's been a great franchise. Great performances from all lead cast. The last in the maze has finished it off with more action, explains more to the story and It tops the other two by far and also It got me right In feels. Spot on!
I’m sorry, but at the risk of sounding like a prententious asshole:
If you think this is good, watch more movies.
Even though the films in the "Maze Runner" trilogy get a little dumber with each installment, the overall quality is quite consistent. In the finale, the acting is once again good, and the effects are satisfying. Right from the start, the opening sequence has some really strong action moments. After that, however, the film definitely has a few lengths, which is certainly due to the long runtime, among other things. I don't want to say too much about the plot, which didn't really grab me in the first two parts either. The script is not the strongest point of the film, especially since the characters are still rather one-dimensional, which doesn't exactly make you sympathize with them. Furthermore, some of their actions are completely incomprehensible. However, I don't want to be too harsh; "The Death Cure" serves as a satisfactory conclusion to the trilogy. Nevertheless, I don't really need more films in this world.
I know we’re supposed to be on the side of the rebels because they’re the main characters and all, but… are they actually right, though? I don’t think so.
I mean, isn’t sacrificing a few people to save the rest of the world by far the lesser of two evils? Obviously it feels very brutal and horrifying to use other people in this way, but isn’t it technically the most moral thing to do? Honestly, I think that mantra “WCKD is good” was very much correct.
In my eyes, Teresa was the true hero of this story and I strongly believe she could and would have saved humanity if she hadn’t died.
P.S. Fun little party game: Drink each time they scream a variation of: “Go go go, come on, we gotta go, go go!!” while dramatically looking back instead of actually coming into action right away. I swear you’ll be absolutely sloshed by the end of watching this movie franchise.
Ropes. Chains. Common sense. Things that I miss...
WHY NEWT HAVE TO DIEEEE :sob::sob::sob:
I think this is the most incoherent trilogy I've ever seen in my life. No explanations, no answers, nothing.
Much better than the second, no where near as good as the first - an okay ending to the trilogy. Action packed, entertaining and pretty good directing, which has been a common throughout these movies. The issue with this movie is poor writing and a predictable plot, including a few too many eye rolling moments including Teresa's death at the end, The return was gally was definitely a good surprise if you hadn't read the books, Will Poulter puts out one of the best performances across the trilogy. Couple side characters seem to get lost in the effort to get Teresa back into the fold (Giancarlo Espositio!). Overall, could've been better, but as finales go these days it could've been much much worse
Not as good as the first one, obviously, but a good conclusion of the trilogy. A bit sat but also I do not remember all the details from before, watching this so late haha
A bit of a cheesy ending.
Thomas is a fkn idiot.
The end.
Actually a pretty good conclusion to the Maze Runner trilogy. Great story, good acting and action-packed from beginning to end. Even though it‘s kind of a sad ending, I really liked the final scenes of the movie.
Another one full with action. I'm not really sure if I like the ending though.
This one was not so good like the last two movies. I appreciate the action but the rest of movie it doesn't have a little bit sense.Gally was died from the first movie and now is metting again Thomas. One of the most important charcter is diyng cause is infected(Newt). Only the action was good but the rest of movie is bad.
This has been my favourite movie ever since it came out, I cried a lot when newt died and I literally couldn’t take it, when they hold up there cups at the end I always do it with them, I even made my own copy of newts letter and put in my pocket, I carry it with me everywhere :sob:
The reviews were probably bad because critics were tired of all the Hunger Games type movies. Last decade. Maze Runner is definitely better the Divergent movies. Since it at least didn’t think it had to divide the last book into 2 movies.
The action and performances are fine enough to keep you interested. It’s definitely much better than the second movie.
Though, the whole movie feels climatic, like it’s nearing the end. Yet, it’s 2 hrs and 20 minutes and takes too long to get to the end.
Pretty nice fall of bad civilization… ;>
The climatic final chapter of The Maze Runner trilogy, The Death Cure is an exciting sci-fi thriller. After a failed attempt to save Minho from WICKED Thomas and his band of rebels track him to the last city where they met some old friends who help them break into the labs to rescue him. The screenwriters do a good job at adapting the novel, making it more cinematic and action-packed. And the special effects are really well-done, making for some thrilling and intense fight sequences. Additionally, the score enhances the action and adventure. Entertaining and full of thrills, The Death Cure provides a strong conclusion to this remarkable series.
Yooo this movie was garbage!!!!! OMG I hate the main character
We already fuckin knew he was the CURE!!!!
How could he kiss after she betrayed him and only used him for his blood WOW terrible writing
Action where??? This shit was a teenage sci-fi soap opera!!! I'm glad this had come to an end. Horrible movie
Maze Runner is one of those young-adult book series I never bothered reading. I was probably slightly too old to care when the first book dropped (a year after The Hunger Games, I might add), and the series never appeared on my radar until the movies happened.
The first film in the series, I saw almost three years ago, followed soon by the second. Neither left much of a lasting impression. By now, certainly, I forgot who everyone was, what they were fighting for, and you know… everything relevant to the story. This film did an OK job of refreshing my memory along the way… (Well, not really. But I'm not going to rewatch the other 4 hours of this film series.)
So, from my perspective as a "Hey, I remember this series; wonder how it ends…" viewer? This was decent. I have a few bones to pick with the script (don't I always?) but the execution was reasonably good. Despite stretching to well over two hours, The Death Cure didn't drag until near the end. Most of the way, the pacing was kept up nicely. I wasn't bored. I remember being bored during The Scorch Trials.
Yes, I predicted a ton of the "twists". (If they're easily predicted, do they even count as "twists"?) Yes, I rolled my eyes at some plot points. (Did Teresa really need to fuck around for so long on that rooftop waiting for the building to collapse instead of JUST JUMPING? Why the hell did Lawrence goad that huge mob into invading and destroying the city, thus making it impossibly hard for Thomas's crew to get out?) But the CGI and VFX work were generally fine, and the action kept my attention from drifting.
Definitely a Decent/10. Not necessarily rewatchable, but good enough if you don't want to watch anything with a ton of substance.
It's the end and I still have a lot of questions!!!
It was more about the friendship than the cure.
It was just another zombie movie.
They don't have to create two different movies to prove Teresa's betrayal and loyalty. They can save her but they didn't because it can create confusion for Thomas between Brenda And Teresa.
That letter in the end was awesome.
Just another post apocalyptic style trilogy to throw itself off the cliff to a sudden death by the third chapter. The first Maze Runner movie was quite good and enjoyable. 25 minutes into this one I realised how inconsequential the second movie was to my memory, as I could not remember any part of it. After about 40 minutes I was asking myself I I wanted to subject myself to just under another two hours of this showing. I stuck with it and unfortunately I did. That's another 2.5 hours of my life I'm never getting back. Spent most of the last hour and a half wondering what would be a better movie to spend my time on watching next.
The story just seemed to run off in 20 different directions with countless contradictions. So many characters in the story seemed to have a completely pointless role and existence in the story. The motives of the characters also come across as being very willy-nilly and poorly thought out as if the writers lost sight of the character arcs.
If the books they were based on are anything as jumbled then I guess it's a no go for my to be read list.
As with the the books, the film series started out strong, but became lost with its plot twists and narrative story strands. Not a terrible film, but only diehard fans of Dashner's novels will love this. For the discerning filmgoer, we have yet another YA franchise come to an end, and with it, perhaps, a sense of relief that there is no need to continue with a saga that doesn't really lead anywhere interesting, despite the promising start.
Over long movie which confused me at times. Shorter would have been better. Some great background scenes. Overall entertaining.
I so have enjoyed these 3 films always true to the story thankyou to the cast for such an epic journey thanks
it was kind of boring and I totally forgot the previous movies so it was hard to keep up with the story.
Seemed a little over long, I lost interest a few times. Predicable rescue and chase moments particularly the climatic ending
Gives great does of survival balanced with action and sci-fi...
So boring that I could not complete it
Ehhhhhhhh, enough said! Not great by any means!
A whole lot better than movie number two, that's for sure! I really enjoyed this one. Especially the opening sequence! So badass.
All I kept thinking throughout the movie was 'these people don't understand the first thing about medicine and ethics if they think it's okay to torture and kill some people (teenagers and kids mostly) to save others'. The end most certainly does not justify the means.
I'm really sad about Newt. Teresa on the other hand? She had it coming. She deserved to die a fiery death after selling out her friends to be treated like lab rats.
I was sobbing when Newt died ugh
ive seen more than half of teen wolf i am terrifyingly aware of what being attracted to dylan o'brien implies therefore i've done my best to avoid doing so then comes this goddamn fucking trilogy but if i walk with the lord i'll keep these demon thoughts at bay pray for me fellas
also i loved the movie. this whole movie series has become one of my favorites, easily.
Being a fan of the first instalment and thinking The Scorch Trials fell a bit flat, The Death Cure is somewhere in between. The film fails to reach a satisfying conclusion and climax as it’s 142 minute run time begins to show early on. There’s some interesting themes thrown into The Death Cure but it’s all poorly executed and I would have liked the film to spend more time on the third act than on backstory or new characters. The film is well acted though, despite some corny dialogue here and there.
End of the saga, the film has made me something long for what counts, it's not bad as what they do and how it ends, but I still like more the first
Watch it, if you're a fan of the Maze Runner Series! If not, give it a go and decide for yourself!
After reading the books and watching the first two movies, of course I had to finish the Series with this one.
Since I was very disappointed in the second movie, being so different from the books, I didnt think I'd like this one at all. To be honest, I only gave it a shot because I wanted to know if they were at least following some things from the book. BUT I surprisingly liked it. Better than the second one for sure.
Its fast though. I felt the pace of all the things that happened was pretty rushed. But I think the actors all did a very nice job in showing emotions and portraying the characters.
I probably wont watch this again though, too depressing if you've read the books and know whats happening. Seeing it visualized is kind of a lot to take in. If you know what I mean ...

Let's just say I cried a lot about Newt and I'm feeling very nostalgic about one of my favorite series coming to an end. That aside I feel this was a very good final chapter and I'm very proud of the cast and crew for pulling this off so amazingly after the complications they had. The wait was worth it. Last but definetly not least: I fucking love Dylan O'brien
