a surprisingly amount a good laughs. Yes its disney, yes there is the gooey heart stuff. but ya know what. i liked it, gooey and all.
I wasn't sure it would be very good, but it was a cute story, fairly good script and well cast. Some of the script was extra gooey unnecessarily, but the decent family friendly jokes balanced it well. It's a good, lite movie to watch.
This movie was as bad as a Rob Zombie movie.
The plot beats are familiar so you know exactly where its going. However, it is funny, the cast are good, and at times there is a hint of something magical.
Adam DeVine is good, but 'Magic Camp' is formulaic and plain.
It does end up having a minute amount of charm to it, but for the most part it's predictable and cringey - due to its forced, if admittedly hearty, set of narratives for the characters. The ending, when all that comes to the fore, is a little sickly. The magic tricks are done well, mind.
DeVine is enjoyable, though I already like him from TV's 'Workaholics' so that may play a part in how I see him in this. Jeffrey Tambor is solid, while Nathaniel McIntyre does a fine job in the lead role.
Too queasy for my liking. "Institute of Magic" would've been such a better title, by the way.

There’s cliches you’d expect, like a bully at magic camp. The movie does have charm and keeps your attention though. Adam Devine is actually good and less obnoxious than usual.
