'Die Hard' in space but bad.
Lockout is a fun popcorn flick through and through. Never once did I feel bored watching this at all. Guy Pearce has a ton of one-liners in this film and delivers them perfectly; it was hilarious; which caught me off guard because there aren't many funny scenes in a true action film. This isn't your typical A-type Hollywood movie; it is a B-type so I took it for what it was -- mindless fun. The story wasn't that bad it was just average; it was your typical spy film meets prison break story line. The whole movie is just surrounded by pure action and it takes no time getting to it.
For a Luc Besson film, I am incredibly disappointed. There were some good parts, but also some truly terrible parts.
Characters seem poorly written for the sake of needing a plot device, or just because...
Perfect example is Hock. What a dumb shit. Between taking an ankle gun into the interview room and shooting the controls to activate the gas release, this guy has stupid in spades. Best part was him shooting himself in the head. He sure wasn't using it.
Emilie is pretty stupid as well. She attacks Snow twice, despite the fact he was helping her both times. He isn't wearing orange, so he is probably not one of the prisoners. Then, she seems confused about who cause communications. Thankfully Snow has a smartass comment to tell her how flippin stupid she is. ... and she can't even read a simple map... stupid!
And Snow is just generally incompetent. Between being seen trying to make entry because he can't hide his legs, to walking like he is drunk, to being a worthless fighter, to being so weak he can't even pull himself over the edge of the torsion chasm (either with a perfect grip or a few moments later with a perfectly good rope)...
And who doesn't understand things in orbit stay in orbit? M.S. One would not reenter the atmosphere for a while. The drag would be minuscule enough to give it weeks to months before needing a boost back into higher orbit. Not 8 hours to completely return to Earth. Hell, it was in a higher orbit than the I.S.S. and the I.S.S. only reboosts to a higher orbit about once a month.
And what does having the controls be fly by wire have to do with anything? All that means is there are electronic controls instead of traditional physical links. It has nothing to do with orbital mechanics.
Why are they falling when they jump off the station? Wow! The writers of this movie must be some of the most inept sci-fi writers ever. Even in the old school 60s sci-fi they knew about orbital mechanics enough to know you were not going to just fall.
That's the worst, lowest, worst security "max security" prison ever from all max security prisons!
Not the best, but a watchable Sci-Fi to say the least.
This movie and Iron Sky... God... so hard to say which one is worse!
The special effects, I've seen better in 90's movies.
*** SPOILER ***
That scene when they fall from the prison, and get on earth in like... 5 minutes, what was that?!?!?
I love Maggie Grace & Guy Pearce is a good actor, but this was a waste of time.
I must agree that this movie "borrows" a lot of plot elements from "Escape From New York" and "Escape From L.A.", so I see the point in Carpenter suing (and winning half a million Euros from) Besson. Guy Pierce is an excellent actor, with the tough job of making us believe the story, and it delivers his lines with humour and candor. It really cracks me up. Oh, and Joseph Gilgun got his part in Preacher for this movie, so we all got going that one for us, which is nice. As long as you forget everything you know about science, gravity, medicine and common sense, this is a very funny movie, and I really did enjoy it.
The special effects were pretty bad. The rest of the movie? Eh. It was kind of like Fortress meets Escape From New York.
i expected very little from this movie, but was plesantly surprised to find it enjoyable. if you take it for what it is, is an enjoyable 95mins.
If you don't like fun little Sci Fi movies then don't watch. I loved this and guy pierce is great in the role.
Lockout is a surprisingly good indie science fiction film that delivers a thrilling adventure. Though it claims to be based on an original concept, it’s really just Escape from L.A. in space: the president’s daughter is trapped on a prison space station and an ex-CIA operative is sent in to rescue her. Guy Pearce, Maggie Grace and Peter Stormare form a solid cast that deliver surprisingly good performances. Pearce and Grace work well together, and Pearce’s character of Snow is charismatic and fun (in that cheesy, B-movie kind of way). The special effects are weak in some areas and the characters aren’t fleshed out, yet despite its flaws Lockout is an intense and riveting action film.
If you've seen Luc Besson's Europacorp action flicks you know what to expect. I love all of them and this was no exception. Guy Pearce is the show stealer as Agent Snow, the John McClane of the space age. His wisecracks and mindless violence keep your attention. The effects are well done, the action over-the-top and exciting and it's overall good late night entertainment. As with all these sorts of films, I'm sure critics and serious Sci-fi nuts are going to hate. But as I always say, for people who can switch off and enjoy a bit of brainless fun, this is a must. Let the haters hate and the watchers watch.
Just really bad but feels like a big budget movie. Except when they talk. Or act. But otherwise watchable.
An absolute no-brainer! OK if you want to just enjoy 90 minutes of action, but do not expect anything more: there is no good plot, there are no outstanding actors, you wont find any good special effects and the whole thing is quite predictable. Therefore I guess no one is going to watch this flick a second time, but the first time is it is not too bad...
How come Lockout is sooooo much worse the second time through. I can't have paid attention to this one the first time, can I? I mean...this level of shittiness shouldn't have passed me by. Nothing...NOTHING...is good with this movie. Not even the girl.
Stay way clear, and if you got this one lying around and haven't seen it yet...use the disc as a frisbee. Much better use of that shiny blu-ray or DVD. You might even stamp on it for good measure.
This is a 1:1 clone of "Escape from New York"/"Escape from L.A." (just in space this time), although the movie states to be based on "the original idea of Luc Besson". ;) Still a good, cheesy action movie to watch.
Cheesy fits perfectly. The Pierces dialogues were great and i have to get the t-shirt. The Star Wars like Dog-Fight-Scenes were bad as hell, but the rest of the movie was good for me.
i think it was pretty funny.
7/10
this movie leeway.
I have never seen a movie that was more cheeze...but I some how liked it lol.
not too bad. That guy was pretty funny how he acted. just expect a B movie ;)
the worst scene was they easily and safely falling down to Earth from the space
CGI is uggly. Script is... omg, fucking stupid...
But the worst point is the editing... wich was made by a butcher.
95 minutes of pain in ass
@nickx "Nice! Good to watch on a sunday rainy morning : P" Completely agree if you tried as hard as you could to like bad future sci-fi. But it had it's moments. More terrible moments than good but still worth a gander. Also i think guy pearce's character was exactly what we need in action movies these days. The CG quality in the first six minutes looked like the die hard trilogy for Playstation 1 (with a vengeance) which was totally lacking for Luc Besson (Fifth Element). I didn't find out he wrote and directed this til after i had watched and you can see his direction in it. But still it was awful 5 hearts... I had HIGH hopes.
Nice! Good to watch on a sunday rainy morning : P
Somehow Guy Pearce manages to make a wise cracking action hero unlikable. CGI was lacking.
The 2 lead psychotic inmates were very strong in supporting roles. The station itself looked cool.
This is watchable turn your brain off popcorn fair, 5/10
LOL, the special fx in the first 20 minutes (until they finally went to space) where so bad, I thought they were made by school kids.
I think they were worse than a low budget film of the 90's.
The movie itself was pretty bad. Some unbelievably ridiculous stuff in there. Entering the atmosphere in a space suit? And then even unclothing that space suit? OMG, when I saw that I only wanted to bang my head against the wall.
And why did people freeze in space? They are supposed to cook! With blood steaming from every opening of your body and your cells exploding.
There's some laughably bad CGI (worst I've ever seen actually, including bad SyFy flicks), a weak storyline and plot holes everywhere... and yet, it's still a fun movie. By far Guy Pearce's best performance and best character he's had to play with - loads of funny lines and great dialog. I wish they'd taken his character and invested it in a better movie all around.
This move was great!! Maggie Grace is sexy!!
Aside from the space diving part, this movie was total crap.
Crappy Crap!
One of the Worst Movies i ve Seen in 2011/2012
very similar setup to "Escape from New York", fun to watch. I still prefer Snake Plissken...
