An entertaining movie with a bad ending. Not bad at all, it's just that a much-feared mind gets defeated so easily... And Foxx should take care of some details. It's fair an attorney can walk as a rapper but loses some credibility.
If you like true blind justice...this is your movie Love it
Just watchin a movie like this....makes me wanna burn this muthafucka downnnn...Come on Pooky!!!! Let's burn this muthafucka downnnn!!!!!
An enjoyable piece of ridiculousness if you can overlook glaring plot holes, inconsistencies and above all that ending...
7/10 if you stop the film before the last 15 minutes or so
5/10 if you don't
Gerard Butler and Jamie Foxx create some really good moments of suspense together. Unlike a lot of other films within the >revenge genre< Law Abiding Citizen tries to say something new, but in the end I'm just not sure that what it says is intelligible.
Gerard Butler plays the very convincing villain here. However, his expertise is a bit over-done. Still loved the movie though for all its original antics.
This movie is so dope! I had to watch it again.
This is a very visually pleasing movie, as I think it's visually filmed really nicely, and I quite liked the dialogue and Jamie Foxx. I'd also say the path Clyde took in the movie I didn't expect at all. However, once the 30 minute mark hits, the rest of the movie begins to be a bit overdone with Clyde's message and abilities to the point where it's verging on the ridiculous and impossible. So while this movie was technically well made in my opinion, the storyline didn't do it for me at all, which makes this more of a sort of trashy fun movie and not the intriguing film it's trying to be.
Clyde's final shot with flames around him holding the bracelet made by his daughter is the coolest frame

Pretty good movie with one of the most unsatisfying endings I've ever seen. What a waste.
0/10 for the movie's politics
10/10 for being an insane reactionary fever dream of so-bad-its-amazing farfetched godlike contrivances
Gerard Butler stars as Jigsaw by way of Payback
Spoiler: he isn’t a law abiding citizen
Law Abiding Citizen has an intense and outstanding plot. The movie has an almost Silence of the Lambs feel to it, with its dark themes and tense atmosphere. The action scenes are well-executed, and the plot twists keep you guessing until the very end. The performances by Foxx and Butler are outstanding, and the plot is both engaging and thought-provoking. If you're a fan of movies like Silence of the Lambs and Seven, then Law Abiding Citizen is definitely worth your time.
"I'm just getting started. I'm gonna pull the whole thing down. I gonna bring the whole fuckin' diseased corrupt temple down on your heads. It's gonna be Biblical"
Law Abiding Citizen is still a enjoyable thriller with some horror like kills. It isn't as impressive as when I first saw it when I was a young 20 year old and thought this movie was the shit. But I can still see why I thought it back then. At least I'm happy it hold up for me. I still enjoyed watching it.
However, I think the idea is good but they way that just made everyone an asshole is kind of a let down. The ending doesn't feel well for Nick Rice (Jamie Foxx) and they never showed us why suddenly after 10 years Clyde Shelton (Gerard Butler) wants to take action against the people who messed up. And damn if you go into this blind you don't expect such a brutal opening.
Anyway, the logic might not all be there but to start off the weekend it is a enjoyable thriller.
For the first time in a movie a good protagonist that dies in the end cause why make the whole movie good when you can ruin the ending, hope to see some more movies like this but with the protagonist literally killing everyone that makes justice so bad
"No, I don't think I will excuse you."
I feel like this film's more of a one-off, as in, when you watch it for the first time, it's at its best, but after that, its value decreases a lot. I'm not sure if anyone else felt/feels this way. That's the vibe I got. But the initial, first-time effect still happened; it's not like it never existed because of what follows.
For me, I thought this film was pretty entertaining. A huge part, I'd imagine, was how different, from every other film I've seen so far, it was. There were a few grim scenes: the beginning of the film, the torturous demise of a particular character, and "the scene" in the judge's chamber, which made me jump. And the atmosphere, in general, was pretty tense and suspenseful.
At the same time, I feel like, with the final act, the storytelling began getting a little weak. It's like things were progressing in a stereotypically, 'this is the final act, so we have to finish everything off' sort of way. I hope that makes sense.
And the ending itself was the crescendo, the "final nail in the coffin" of that stereotype. Then again, it's not like I was rooting for either character. Clyde's feelings were valid, but he went off the rails. Nick's perspective made sense, and his decision at the end was understandable, given everything that happened, but the ending was "rushed." For lack of a better word.
I don't know. I don't necessarily know how to feel. The ending kind of left a bit more to be desired. Not only that, what was the 'lesson learned?' Everything in this film that happened almost felt unnecessary. And I guess it had a pretty flimsy narrative for revolving a film around, and it seemed stretched out, too, only for the conclusion to not seem like one, to seem flat, instead.
As far as the specific elements of the film are concerned, none of the acting performances stood out that much; Gerard Butler and Jamie Foxx were at the top, obviously, given how their characters got the most focus. The cinematography by Jonathan Sela was pretty decent, I suppose. And the score that was composed by Brian Tyler, who has, what I'm assuming is considered, quite the résumé, and it showed: this film's score stood out a lot.
This film was entertaining, but I'll refer back to the first sentence of my review: I feel like this film's more of a one-off, as in, when you watch it for the first time, it's at its best, but after that, its value decreases a lot. And, interestingly enough, Roger Ebert, more or less, said something similar. "Law Abiding Citizen is one of those movies you like more at the time than in retrospect." [I mean, come on, you're thinking. Still, there's something to be said for a movie you like well enough at the time.] I thought that was interesting.
Other thoughts:
The acting by Ksenia Hulayev, Clyde's daughter, stood out to me. Something about it seemed pretty decent: like it came naturally.
At times, Gerard Butler sounded a lot like Mel Gibson in Lethal Weapon.
Josh Stewart, the actor who played Rupert Ames, looked like Jason Clarke a little bit. Especially as "that" was happening. His strained face and the VFX did most of it regarding that. He doesn't look much like Jason otherwise.
There was also a similar-sounding likeness in Christian Stolte's voice to Ned Luke's voice, aka Michael De Santa. At times, anyway. Not only that, I initially didn't realize he's that one guy from Chicago Fire.
If there's ever an L.A. Noire TV show or film, Colm Meaney would make a pretty decent Rusty Galloway.
All a bit far-fetched really.
good movie, stupidly bad ending.
This is not your typical justice movie. It has drastic twists and turns. Keeps you on the edge of your seat.
It was interesting but I was really hoping for so much more especially after the solidarity.
What a great movie. I wasn't expecting such a thriller storyline. It was perfect. Even the end was perfect.
Film with an intriguing plot that awakens diverse sensations regarding the attitudes of each protagonist. Clyde is a man who has witnessed the death of his whole family in a cruel way and that even if he does justice with his own hands probably had no more appreciation for his own life, it is difficult to imagine him in a beautiful happy ending on a Caribbean beach fishing and smiling as some imagine it has to be.
one of my fav movies so far. i watched the movie like 10 times!
Awesome revenge thriller. The way the pieces are orchestrated are so satisfying. Why can't we get a Batman movie like this...?
7.7/10 I cant understand why people hated so much the end..It wasnt too bad
I don't want to be critical and also don't want to say much good things about this movie, because this one of these movies what go to the department of "have to see it my self" And I'm about 75% sure that you will enjoy this movie. But once again, what a shame about the ending...
Nice movie not very believable though...
Edited - it was a great thriller.
Definitely one of the best films of all time
I love this movie so much, one of my favorites.

I hate it when the hero dies.
