This is a special kind of awful. Do not bother. Acting is weak, 90%+ of the film is this first person POV thing that will leave your head hurting for days. The concepts are cool but the execution is just awful. The CGI itself is actually quite decent, which is even more of a shame really, as all I can imagine is piles of money being lit on fire to produce decent effects for what is, in my opinion, totally unwatchable cinema. I award this movie no points, and I am now going to find a stiff drink to hopefully erase it from my mind forever.
FPS doenst work in movies, stop trying.
The bad things about this movie outshine the good ones so overwhelmingly that it is even hard to remember what good things there were.
One line at the end particularly was extremely laughable, when Will Porter confronts Reynard and asks him "How do you expect me to do this with everything that I know now?" when in fact it felt like the character did not know anything at all beyond a basic "everything will be destroyed".
That is all the character has to go on. There is no relevant information on the rebels, no interesting information on the tower, the characters have no decent background or bonds, and in the middle of a huge conspiracy, we do not even understand why are there willing participants fighting for Reynard.
I do not really play video games, but I have many friends who do. The plots seem often well thought out and complete, and characters are usually at least interesting. The movie meanwhile having visuals that would already atract no one but video game fans, appears to fail these fans severely by underestimating the quality of the writing and story-telling they consume. I cannot honestly think of a single person whom I might recommend this movie to.
It's got a cool premise, but it's completely squandered with the lame first person gimmick. It gets old very quick, as I feel like I'm just watching a video game, replete with corny acting, and uninspired setpieces. You can't engage with the main character in this format, even when you have a good actor, like Stevens. So we should stop trying to make this style a thing...
:heart:x6
This is not a very good movie. I personally hate first person point of view movies (about half the movie was shot this way).
Also the story was a bit muddy. Special effects were OK.
It's not a complete write-off for me tho - because somehow I did find myself get engaged in it.
How I rate:
1-3  = seriously! don't waste your time
4-6  = you may or may not enjoy this
7-8  = I expect you will like this too
9-10  = movies and TV shows I really love!
I wanted to like this movie. Moderately unique science fiction action without superheroes. Unfortunately, the pacing isn't good and frequent flashbacks didn't work well. It's ruined, though, by having tons and tons of action, but nothing having any weight or meaning. Baddies show up with supreme overwhelming force against a few people with one handgun? You know immediately the heroes will be fine somehow. Bullets and bombs have no effect on heroes. Enemies just hang out waiting to get knocked out. There are odd sequences that feel silly, like watch evil drones just flying around not attacking us for some reason and we're not shooting them, but then in a revelation that is spur of the moment, if you shoot the "main" one in a special spot, you can take control of the other ones. It's like a poorly crafted video game.
This story is awful. Honestly the FPS wasn't even the problem here. It was the bad writing and bad directing.
I want my 1 1/2 hour of life back.
Such a good idea gone to waste, I could almost admire it.
This remember me the great videogame "Half life" but the movie here is another story... so nice plot, bad making
The more I watched the hero Will get injured the more I thought at the end it will reveal he was a robot.
Also, I know it's a sci-fi film but was I supposed to believe the outcome of plane crash?
Unbelievable!
The general story idea for this movie wasn´t bad but the script is weak. And I have to agree with other comments: the first person view doesn´t work. I´m sure it was intented to put the viewer in the spot of the character but I felt more like watching my son play a game. Even with the weak script as it is the movie would have been much better if done conventional.
It feels like i watched someone play/rush Quantum Break. The FPS view made it so painful to watch.
This should be right up my alley, but I just couldn't watch more than 15 minutes.
Not entirely terrible I'd say. Kinda weak script, not the best editing and stuff like that but overall... ok for a low-budget SciFi movie. See it as a 1 1/2 hour non-interactive video game and don't expect anything too groundbreaking.

So...everybody on this page is hating on this movie, and that's fine...it does kinda suck! However, I didn't mind the first person perspective, and the visuals were occasionally pretty good. The story didn't make a lot of sense, but I was still carried along by the action. In short, I kinda enjoyed it, despite its flaws. Imagine yourself with a joypad in hand, and you MIGHT like it too.
