This movie was a hot mess. The story was bullshit, the action was cluttered, and the pacing was all over the place to say the least.
On top of everything else, however, the biggest let-down was the big tournament that they kept hyping up in all the trailers. This was supposed to be this huge, climactic battle between a wide assortment of Riders and Rangers, all to earn the title and powers of Kamen Sentai Gorider. However, the only fights we got to see were the very first and very last fights in the tournament, and even then, the stakes weren't that high, since we never saw any of Team Ex-Aid's opponents out of suit. Heck, there were hardly even any speaking lines given to the opponents, even Genm himself! You would expect at least a little bit of showboating from Genm, seeing as he is not only Ex-Aid's final direct opponent in the tournament, but also his rival in-show, but alas, even the Game Master could not save this section of the movie.
If I had to say one positive thing about the movie, however, it would be the character moments between Hiiro, Naaga, Amu, Utsusemimaru, and our designated Kid of the Movie--Eito. While Eito himself was as bland as can be, he really brought out some great moments in the other characters, especially Hiiro and Naaga, both of whom I already loved in their respective series. I do wish the Eito plot wasn't rife with even more bullshit contrivances than basically any Taisen movie plot that came before. Seriously, it got so bad at some points that it felt like watching a train wreck--such a huge mess that I couldn't even look away.
This movie was certainly a wild ride, to say the least. Like all Taisen movies, I highly recommend you check your expectations of a cohesive story at the door, but don't expect great fanservice or action, either. I can only really recommend this movie if you A: are a completionist who needs to see every Taisen, B: have a higher tolerance for incoherent bullshit than I do, or C: love Hiiro, Amu, and Naaga as much as I do.
