another oddly delivered set of one liners.
Jimmy is great ad libbing, as a guest, or when hosting shows, but his stand ups have always been mediocre. like he's trying to copy Bob Monkhouse's style.
this does have more new jokes, unlike the repeated content in the others, but nothing that we haven't already joked about at the pub.
Finally got to watch this especially after all the cancellation by twitter going on. It was OK, not maybe as pushing the limits as some of his earlier shows and the jokes at the end almost felt like they were added for the sake of it. Good enough fun as long as you don't get easily offended. The 'joke' also gets explained in context so maybe those complaining need to watch the whole segment.
IF EASILY OFFENDED, DON'T WATCH THIS
I have quite a weird sense of humour and I found myself shaking my head at some of the jokes while laughing with tears rolling down my face. Nothing and no one is off limits in the search of the career ending joke
Funny one liners. Not as dark or offensive as I thought. More rides the bandwagon of political correctness (in order to remain popular and appeal to the masses), and instead makes vulgar or sexual jokes to get reactions.
Not often I turn a show off, but this was truly awful. The title is misleading; it's Netflix, it won't be dark. Unless 'dark' means 'crap'.
Yes, there are a few sick 'jokes' about rape and disabilities. But they're just to fill the gaps between his attempt to jump on every bandwagon.
Jimmy is one a number of comedians clearly ashamed of their past - the very thing that made them popular - to appeal the younger generation that's offended by everything.
I'm not upset about that last joke being offensive, I'm upset cause it wasn't funny
The best part of Jimmy's bit is that his shows are very unique from other famous comedians. It's just one liners one after other. Also, the audience participation is highest in his shows.
As for jokes, there's nothing that is spared by him.
Film 139 (Goal: 300) of 2024:
First time I've watched a full Jimmy Carr set. Mainly see him from videos on Youtube, where he responds to hecklers. Carr spends most of this special whipping through short jokes on topics many would find offensive. There's usually very little build up and little time to let the dust special. And while that's okay, I found the style a little off putting. That goes as well for the direction, where often the camera would pull in close and sweep across the stage and Carr would look into the camera.
The jokes are generally funny but it does lose steam towards the end, especially as we enter a section dubbed by Carr, "career killers". The brilliance of Carr is highlighted in his quick wit and response to hecklers, something he openly welcomes in this special. The man is impeccable in this area, an area where many comics would fail or refuse completely.
Ultimately Jimmy Carr: His Dark Material pokes holes at the woke culture and the threat of being cancelled. It's become the basis for many comedians sets lately. Understandably so, as it's a threatening age for their career. Carr doesn't do it any better than say Dave Chappelle or Ricky Gervais, but he still achieves a good set.
I think Jimmy is an excellent game show host, but I much prefer stand up comedians to be more like storytellers. This was just like, the "edgiest" one liners he could come up with, one right after another. The stuff he was saying wasn't even all that offensive. It just wasn't all that funny either.

Couldn’t handle it. It sounded like there was a laugh track after every one liner. I did not even crack a smile in the 10 minutes I cringed through it. Terrible.
