Mike Tyson held this one together... ...
Not as goog as the Yip Man 1 but I think a little bit better than Yip Man 2. Fights are very nice and very eye-candy. Storyline is also good. There isn't much to complain about in this movie. If you like martial-arts movies then go for it. You won't be disappointed.
"The world doesn't belong to the rich, or even the powerful, but to those of pure heart."
After watching 1 and 2, 3 is the weakest of the trio. The fight scenes don't pop as much, but I would say the most devastating scene happens in this one.
You have to go into this one realizing this is a MOVIE...not a biopic, not a "based on actual events", not even "loosely based on actual events". This is a scripted story; the writers have taken the life of a true martial arts legend - Ip Man, the founder of the current Wing Chun art - and have built somewhat of a dynasty around his name ONLY. If you can watch this with that understanding, it ranks as a great martial arts movie. Again, as was Ip Man 2 this seems to parallel the Rocky Balboa character in the American Rocky movies. It has its tearjerker moments, it even has its moments where you want to smack Donnie Yen/Ip Man for ignoring his wife the way he did, but again, it's a STORY. And as a story, I personally thought it was great. The fight scene with Mike Tyson was good but in reality, it was a good thing Tyson only insisted on three minutes; I don't see how, with the size and difference in power, Ip Man could have stood much longer...unless he had just pulled out all the stops and gone in for a kill. Tyson's power was just too awesome. I would like to have seen more, and was pretty disappointed in how they brought it to such an abrupt stop, but whatever. The final fight scene was amazingly intense, well worth sitting through the rest of the movie for. Additionally, the fight scene with the Thai fighter was incredibly intense, also. I give this one an "8" simply because - as a movie - it was exceptional...but remember, you HAVE to watch this as just another martial arts movie, and not something that actually happened.
This is some high melodrama and several intense fight scenes. At best this can be said to be "loosely based on actual events".
This was a really great sequel to the first two as I thought it developed all of the characters perfectly with Donnie Yen (Ip Man) still being the perfect casting for this role and though I do feel the stories are really overblown to what the true stories were, I feel like Master Ip would be very happy with this mans portrayal of him. Also, this film develops the character played by Lynn Hung (Cheung Wing-sing) who is Ip Mans wife and makes you feel a lot more emotion for this character and I really liked that.
The action is phenomenal as usual in this film with flawless choreography and with the addition of Zhang Jin (Cheung Tin-chi) who is playing Ip Mans younger equal, I found the films fight sequences more competitive as both characters try to one-up each other in any scene they are in together and I cannot wait to see this new character in more films. I also found that Mike Tyson (Frank) was alright in this film as he didn't really need to show any acting chops and he kinda just plays himself, the scene with him and Ip Man has to be my favourite as it shows two different fight techniques against each other.
I do feel that the film kind of ends abruptly, but all of the Ip Man films so far kinda end the same way and I am used to that. Anyone who is a fan of this franchise will love this film for sure and just remember SUBS OVER DUBS!!!!!!
This was good, but not as good as the previous two, though. Mike Tyson shouldn't have been picked for this movie, he ruined it. In fact, he shouldn't be picked for any movies of any kind in the future. Acting, isn't his thing, unfortunately.
The thing is still good. The actors continue to surprise us, but example, stale I say Van Alden, the brother of Al Capone who speak the same.
The story of Eli Thomson's son we hope will lead somewhere
After the disappointment that it was Ip Man 2 I wasn't gonna watch this one. But I'm glad I did. It did everything the 2nd should've done and much more. The 1st one is still the better one but this one is quite close. Now we wait for the 4th.
IP man trilogy is one of the greatest epics I have ever watched. Though its not necessary, but please do watch ip man 1 and 2 before watching this, only then you will understand the dynamics of the movie better. This was also the most emotional movie out of the 3. Some fight sequences added to the background score is just monumental and it stays with you.
i did not see 1 and 2, but 3 seems to be pretty interesting. good fight scenes especially with Mike Tyson. that was fun to watch, but also had a nice touch/message at the end.
The last 10 minutes fight was the best fighting scene i have ever seen!
The movie has a bit more drama compared to its previous movies, making this not as a pure action flick like the original. Not saying that it's a bad thing, but as the consequence the story has to be weighted more while watching this sequel, and unfortunately the movie has quite several different subplots which, though it intertwines each other, seems to be resolved abruptly with no further effect/follow-up in affecting each other. It jumps from one subplot to another as if they're different casualty of events that seem to accidentally happen to the protagonist Ip Man. The action is satisfying as usual--the choreography is perfect and the shot is nicely done--however more improvement can be done with joining the subplots together.

Less action than the previous movies, but the story was in my opinion better. After watching the first half, I placed it on #3 out of all three movies. But after finishing the whole thing I'm placing it as 2nd. BTW, Mike Tyson was pretty useless in this movie. And some story lines felt 'unfinished'
