Ice Princess 2005

Very sweet movie about a "nerd" who finds her calling in ice skating. I adore watching ice skating so this movie is right up my street, Also very funny.

What a spectacular uplifting story about a teen girl who is bound for Ivy League academics that accidentally stumbles upon the realization that her interest in skating is actually her true calling. The plot development is flawless as it sets up the setting of Casey and her mom and scholastics and how they all fall together, and then the transition to skating taking over and weakening yet hardening the relationship between mother and daughter. Nothing can be more tear jerking then someone chasing after their dream.

Wow, I didn't even recognize Paul Sun-Hyung Lee. Did he change that much between this and Kim's Convenience or am I just bad at faces? (I realize it's possible both are true.)

'Ice Princess' is good. Nothing more, nothing less.

There are enjoyable performances from Michelle Trachtenberg (Casey), Hayden Panettiere (Gen), Kim Cattrall (Tina) and Joan Cusack (Joan - creative!). Even if the latter two's characters are irritating at times, but that is intentional to be fair. There's also an appearance for Erik King, which I guess you could say was a "Surprise!" ...

Props are in order for Christophe Beck, who I thought did a top job with the music - all of which suited events very well. The premise, which entails figure skating, is entertaining enough to see unfold. It's nothing special, but is certainly a harmless and fine production from 2005.
