The plot takes a while to develop into the full sci-fy/horror/thriller that this movie most deffenitly IS! The build up is needed very much, so we can get into John's mind. It was also a hit at the festivals, which usually is a good indicator. A very enjoyable movie to day the least!
I'll be the judge of that.
Putting aside it's flaws, I enjoyed this quite a bit. Not forgetting the great performances from Max Records and Christopher Lloyd. Oddly funny, but unsettling in some scenes.
Slowly paced but very atmospheric, this is a cross between Dexter, Odd Thomas and Stephen King's It! I thought it was great and no, before you ask, I am not a serial killer. I do know where you live though.
Very dark at times...little weird at the end.. good plot.. a good watch... good cast... great scott!
I Am Not a Serial Killer tells the story of a teenage boy that realises he has shares all trades with that of serial killers. To stay in check he designs a set of rules, because he is scared of maybe becoming a serial killer if he does not follow them. However, suddenly he experiences something that makes him question himself and makes him wonder if he should "release his beast" for the greater good.
This movie is clearly a movie on a budget, however it still is of high quality. Developed over a time of six(!) years, with early concept shootings dating back to 2013, much love to detail and attention has been paid to create this movie and this shows in the movie. It is an highly atmospherical movie that consinsts of a lot of quiet scenes and a slow pace, but still does not make you loose interest; not only because of the great shooting but also because of great acting, by both, the unknown actors as well as the acting of famous Christopher Lloyd that we all love and know as Doc Brown from the Back to the Future trilogy. I must confess I wouldn't have recognized him as he has gotten really old. However he has lost nothing of hsi great acting, and plays a wonderful role in this movie.
Because of the slow pace and the independant or sometimes even arthouse like filming this might not be a movie for everybody - and unfortunately judging the title and cover one might expect an action horror-thriller; but with your expectation in check this is actually a great movie that is worth watching!
This film is succinctly different from most others that are about serial killers in the sense that it's using silence and music well. Apart from that, this is a b-movie in several ways: apart from the two main actors, there's not much to use. The plot is quite simple, but at times I - a serial killer fan, so to speak - drifted away because the film didn't entice me more; the flow of the film feels contrived, making me feeling something that's very different to what often comes naturally when seeing works of directors such as Terrence Malick, Woody Allen and Richard Linklater. Also, the name-dropping of serial killers and such is more effect-seeking than anything else, more about trying to spook the viewer than create solid characters. Still, as a low-budget film, it works in creating a kind of solemn street-life atmosphere, the kind that came natural to director John Cassavetes, that very few high-budget films have. All in all this is not a particularly well-made film, but it's memorable.
Excellent. We'll acted.
Suprise ending.
Well worth a watch.
Suspense, murder, and horror. Great stuff.

Having read the book, it wasn't what I had in my mind (its classed as a young adult and this was quite mature, dark and atmospheric) it was very slow in parts but had a certain charm and the music was very well done. It's a solid B-Movie at best, and always nice to see something you have read make it's interpretation to the big screen.
Definitely a slow burn sort of film. Reminiscent of Gus Van Sant, complete with the requisite action denouement. A bit out there, but more enjoyable if you know you're in for a slowly paced film and not thriller/horror fare.
Slow movie with a great payoff.
