Some nice twists along the way to a standard Hollywood ending.
Not a nail-biter but it is entertaining enough to keep you interested and engaged in the story.
Good time waster.
7.5/10
Hypnotic is a so-so movie, it starts with a mystery which I found being inspired from the story of Elisa Lam (Hotel Cecil), I was intrigued then but this mystery lasts very little because not even 5 minutes in we find it being caused by an evil hypnotisation, a very Sci-Fi theme which I think should be added in the tags, this hypnotisation idea could have transmuted to a very good horror but it very quickly loses its charm, the writing is very superficial and I think in better hands this idea could have made a much better film but oh well...
The movie is also full of plot twists which do not work at all, especially the last one where the girl wakes up in the detective's hands but we come to discover that it's actually Meade, a powerful scene but very ineffective. The actors also I know have potential but not in this movie, it all seems too superficial and a moneygrab from the directors which are the ones that also made The Open House (also a negatively critiqued movie), I hope their third time is the charm.
This movie is good to watch till the hypnotised girl enters the detective's house to kill him, it all goes downhill from there with the "plot".
I don't want to say the movie is completely bad, actually there is a scene which hit me, when Doctor Meade enters Jenn's house making her remain still, that scene made me a bit uneasy.
I want to tag another review which I agree with https://www.imdb.com/review/rw7486768/?ref_=rw_urv
Not a great movie but fun anyway. Jason O’Mara is delightful.
Decent movie. The subject of hypnosis doesn't always work for me but this was quite amusing to watch, mostly due to Kate Siegel though. Enjoyable for a night in but don't expect to be blown away.
silly, mediocre thriller. it has all the usually trappings including a very predictable plot and dramatic dialogue that didn't ever need to be explicitly stated (lord i am still recovering from the patterns conversation between rollins and meade) so it's still fun, if you're into the sub genre.
and kate siegel is delightful, as always. honestly getting to watch her for an hour and a half straight is something i'll never turn down.
I thought it was pretty dumb.
The storyline is pretty generic and is extremely predictable! Now, I'm open to watching even predictable plots if the execution itself is exciting enough. But thats not the case here. My "favorite" nonsense part had to be the implantation of the counter hypnotism:
To make a nice plot "twist" they thought it would be great to plant in a kind of 'fail safe', in case another hypnotist tries to access the patient's mind...THEN the other hypnotist plants in her OWN thing in the patient's head to take back to the original hypnotist OMG!! Stop it already!!!
Overall not a good experience, more a movie that you can watch together to laugh it off during the whole time..
I put this on since I'll watch whatever Kate Siegel is in. That's about all this had going for it. There's zero mystery to the story. The "twists" are pretty obvious. Jason O'Mara does a decent job as a villain with not a lot to work with other than being charming. What's unfortunate is this isn't bad enough to be inadvertently funny...it's just bad enough to be...boring.
Watched Hypnotic (2021) last night and Oh dear. Kate Siegel was Kate Siegel (pretty and making a good, but not great, effort at acting), but oh boy, the concept was just horrible. From the amount of research the writers obviously did, I'm surprised they managed to spell the title correctly (I'll just put that down to auto-correct doing what it should for a change). So much horrendously wrong information about hypnosis and how it works, which I could actually tolerate if the film was even half good (I'm totally fine with it in 올드보이, a film I LOVE). Hypnotic is just so by the numbers and predictable. At least with some bad movies you get the "so bad it's good" entertainment value, but this movie was just bad, really bad.
Hypnotic... So much that I almost fell asleep during the film. Nice idea, but the implementation... Well.
The film is okay if you have nothing better to do and have already watched all movies on your "must-have-seen"-list.
I will be clear, the general criticism makes her fall from a donkey and whoever writes these lines does not agree. She does not cheat at any time. It is not that it is predictable, it is that from the beginning it shows you what there is and the plot focuses on one thing only: escape and try to stop the bad guy. With this on the table, the film continues to be entertaining, maintains a certain tension and brings you to its end with good rhythm, although a deeper development of the characters is missing. Generic psychological thriller: neither to make her a statue, nor to burn her at the stake.

Not too good of a movie, question why did the detective leave the woman tied up when he could have used her help? Will there ever be a writer that write a movie with common sense thinking by the characters? Also the other couple was broadside in the car accident right? So usually the side that gets hit can be a fatality not the opposite side, more bad writing.

this is one of those movies that is good to watch with someone so that you can make fun of it.
