Good movie based on the story of Samantha Foxx. I liked this movie despite many review saying otherwise. The story is based on reality and the performances were great. Jennifer Lopez performed well and danced the pole well. If you like seedy underworld movies this is for you.... and me!
This was surprisingly great. A ton of fun and style. It's shot well and has great music. Jenifer Lopez really is fantastic. Constance Wu is good too.
The first 45 minutes of Hustlers is wealthy Wall Street brokers throwing money at strippers who don't strip. Seriously, Hustlers underestimates how many films I've seen of 'what really happens in strip clubs'. I feel I've seen the seedy life of exotic dancing more than I have Spider-Man origin stories, truth be told.
The second half of the film is the crime, which is nothing more than a slow, inexorable grind to the inevitable.
You want to see what difference a director can make? Watch this back to back with The Wolf of Wall Street and let me know what you think. Shame really, because Jennifer Lopez, unsurprisingly turns in yet another strong performance.
That said, the only Oscar talk I can see with this film would be if I see a guy named Oscar talking about this film.
Ramona Vega: This city, no this whole country is a strip club. You got people tossing the money and people doing a dance.
J Lo - really excellent. Constance Wu - very good. The story - anticlimactic.
Blame the editing and the direction. It builds and builds and then peters out when the scam is up. Shame. 6/10
Hustlers is a funny feel good film you really do root for them even though they are committing crimes on these rich people to steal their money.
We first meet these people at a strip club in New York where they are strippers trying to make a living, but in order for them to make enough money they need to go into a bit of illegal business. We see these strippers as the hustle gets a lot harder resulting into drugging their clients in the film to try and get them to use their credit cards, signing cheques to spend money on them while hopefully not getting caught in the process, which the precaution is mainly these drugs that play on the clients memory while giving the clients a good time while being conned out of thousands by these strippers. Jennifer Lopez is hilarious the moment she breaks into a split after her strong independent liberating pole dancing scene is just Oscar worthy, which her character Ramona is the main instigator in this side hustling illegal business remaining in complete control over her friends that eventually becomes family.
Overall this movie is hilarious, dark, thrilling, well thought out and makes you overall feel good seeing these people come together to help each other in their hard time of need, where you find yourself rooting for these vulnerable strippers that are doing the illegal activities that they are in as you just want them out of this compromising position, then to be happy overall as close friends practically family too. Jennifer Lopez , Constance Wu, Cardi B, Keke Palmer who is especially hilarious, Trayce Lysette and Lili Reinhart has done an amazing job in there acting. Even though Lili’s character Annabelle could not stop throwing up randomly which was a bit weird and funny at the same time, also her sitting on Jennifer Lopez’s Lap was a bit bizarre too still, cute, warm, sweet and hilarious though just especially shows the close friendly family bond between Lili’s character Annabelle and Jennifer Lopez’s character Ramona too. I highly recommend you go and see it in a cinema as laughing together while also feeling the emotions the characters are faced with in their unpleasant experiences are just what cinemas are all about experiencing it as a community.
For a movie categorised as comedy, I would suggest the only funny bit was the naked guy waking up in the car. And the regular vomming was a bit amusing. This film is many things, but a comedy it is not.
The movie had some fairly strong performances but was nothing short of an anticlimactic drag which just didn’t really seem to go anywhere particularly.
It’s worth a watch if you have nothing better to do.
"A uniquely empowering heist drama with depth and intelligence to match its striking visual appeal."
Truly awful movie. Could of easily been titled “All men are terrible!”
This felt a like a female-cast Goodfellas movie with an endlessly repeating middle part and a predictable ending. The premise - diving into the world of strip clubs from the perspective of the workers within - sounded promising, and the beginning of the movie is a joy to watch.
But after I while, I got confused about the message and the motif of the movie. For some part, it focuses on the empathy of the "criminals" and understanding their motives, but most often it drifts into glamorizing their heist, stylized like in Ocean's Eleven - and I think this does not fit to the message of the movie. I mean, I don't even know now, what the movie wanted me to tell - why I endured that sluggy middle part. This movie gave me no unique experience, besides of the premise.
I know it's based on a true story - but you want to carefully choose which true story you want to turn into a film; and most importantly WHY you want to turn it into a film. I did not see this here...
So, after some nagging, a few good points:
- The cast had a very nice chemistry, and the acting was charming.
- The scene where J.Lo looks like Johnny Deep in Fear and Loathing
- The dresses
- At some points, the cinematography shines, especially the club scenes
Similar to 'Magic Mike', I didn't expect it to go beyond what I originally thought it was going to be. You actually do get some quality stuff in here, in terms of performances and execution.
Produced by Will Ferrel and Adam McKay wtf
This was an engaging movie about some women who pushed the edge of moral boundaries to get over on men who may or may not have also pushed the edge of the same boundaries. JLo was made for this role.

Hustlers is basically a glorified B-movie. I am beyond confused by the reviews for it because this movie was pretty mediocre. Felt like a cheap version of The Wolf of Wall Street, but from the female perspective.
My biggest problem is that it’s not much of a “heist” movie and not much of a character study. Hustlers has no interest in psychology of its characters, and doesn’t take any risks. It seems like they pulled back any interesting or dark pieces in favor of keeping it feminist and accessible. The harsh realities of being a stripper are very real but nothing of this is shown in the movie.
The build-up to the scamming turned out to be longer than the actual scamming. The “heist” just sort of happened. I really wish it was more elaborate. And there was absolutely no suspense or excitement - these women were doing something very dangerous, but movie treats them like they are soccer moms selling essential oils. Nothing thrilling.
Literally 70-80% of the film could have been cut – first part is long shots of the main cast doing stripper cosplay (with no actual stripping) and the second one is basically many repetitive scenes of the girls all walking in slow motion and perfect synchronicity to meet a guy in a bar, and then next day they go shopping.
None of the character relationships are given time to develop. Keke Palmer and Lily Reinhart's characters just arrive, they aren't even formally introduced. Their characters were delegated to "loud black girl" and "vomiting girl" despite being part of the main cast. Constance Wu was miscast as can be, she is not a good fit for a stripper role as she doesn’t have the attitude to be one. I couldn't buy her chemistry with Jlo or the friendship between their characters, that’s why a lot of the emotional moments didn’t land for me.
Speaking of characters, for an American movie about strippers, I was extremely shocked there wasn’t an “Eastern European” woman, played by an American with fake overdone accent. But then the Russian scapegoating came! Hallelujah! This is Hollywood I know. The unfriendly, cold, catty, nasty, sleazy Russian dancers are blamed for the club being dead because they offer $300 blowjobs. Talk about an unnecessary call-out that didn't further the plot in any way but fit Hollywood PC culture. Russian strippers being exploited are enemies of American strippers who are (for some reason) empowered.
I thought there would be more complex, serious subject matter by the way that the movie was portrayed as an empowering movie. But no, it’s actually just a pretty face on a recycled story of manipulation and greed. The director clearly tries to convince the audience to like and understand the motivations of the ladies. That’s why they changed so many details because the real story is just a group of greedy women took advantage of greedy men. For example, Dorothy’s grandmother actually passed before the events of Hustlers, so her motivations were driven by greed, not to support her. And of course, they skipped the prostitution part. At least the movie acknowledged that the women screwed some good people over rather than just treated them like heroes all the time.
I cannot fathom anyone in this movie winning an award. Jlo looks great for her age and has an Oscar winning body, but the acting? It was a pretty straightforward performance that she didn’t bring anything spectacular to.
I know almost everybody loves it, but I thought the last metaphor was corny as hell. I guess it fit the movie, considering it had the depth and social commentary of a rap video.
Jennifer Lopez slay the house down <3
Just Watched this film.. Not Bad great cinematography
Great Comedy.. Acting was so-so.. Some characters we're annoying. But if u think JLo deserves an Oscar for this performance u need to stop watching Movies right away.
Average movie at best.. But I was fairly surprised and a bit entertained and intrigued.
A reasonable movie. Hghlight: Jennifer Lopez's performance. Definitely the best in scenes.
I mean let me say what everyone's already thinking : One of the hottest movies ever!
It's good, it's fine, I enjoyed it. But I do think it's been grossly overhyped. And, I mean, Oscar buzz for J.Lo? Let's all just call down a bit, shall we?
Stylistically it ends up being a bit of a mishmash of several other films that don't ever completely mesh together for me. There are visual and aural devices that are used for single scenes and never return.
Still quite a bit of fun, even if paced a little awkwardly.
How can a film with such great gals be so boring???
my oh my yeah yeah
Well directed movie that was much better than it had any right to be. Stand out performances from Constance Wu and Jennifer Lopez (who continues to defy time) help to drive his film. A good watch.
Honestly, when I want a good laugh, all I need to do is think about Jennifer Lopez thinking of herself as a credible actress.
Thank for the misandry
I'm sorry, but there was nothing appealing about this movie at all. In fact it just grated on my nerves. I get that the movie knows that these are despicable people and we're not supposed to feel for them, but when that's the case, I at least need to be entertained by them, and these girls conjure nothing but contempt. Some great cinematography in here though.
I wonder why Julia Styles accepted to be in a movie where the highlight of it is the same as a JLo’s videoclip.
Interesting Scorsese movie not made by Scorsese. Like a Good Fellas for strippers. Jennifer Lopez crackles in the showy role, but Constance Wu does a great job grounding the story from becoming an over-the-top SHOWGIRLS. Inspired by a true story.
J Lo looks great, others not that impressive. Nice movie
Good film.
'Hustlers' makes for satisfactory viewing. Jennifer Lopez (Ramona) is accomplished in one of the two lead roles, I've previously enjoyed her in 2013's 'Parker'; which is the better film, but individually she's best here for sure. Credit also to Constance Wu (Destiny).
Solidly told story, a few decent song choices in there too. All in all, it's a pleasant film to watch. Recommended.
If you are not a guy and a big fan of J.Lo i will not thing you will like this. Very boring, a story that it is not unfold very well, and the only good about it is so damn sexy jlo is. That dress! oh my god!
3 Thoughts After Watching ‘Hustlers’:
As if we needed anymore proof, Jennifer Lopez clearly has quite the presence. Stunning and scene-stealing, it was great to see her flex her acting muscles in a way I haven’t seen before.
Sure it was hella flashy, but it certainly had substance to match, particularly in the chemistry between Constance and Jennifer. Their characters accurately served up that stark reminder that, while the best of friendships can disappoint, they still have an unwavering capacity to save us.
Palisades Center Mall food court cameo! The scene where they were recruiting new members. My mall!
Talented, hot, brilliant women stealing stupid Wall Street dudes? I'm in for it - and for Cardi B.
Fundamentally flawed movie about basically the worst form of date rape that ends with no consequence and glorifies this behavior... would be absolutely different had it been men exhibiting this behavior. The acting by the leads is unconvincing in serious situations, jlos character is undifferentiated from her actual self in the typical "this isnt your profession" type way, she delivers her lines but cannot convince you to see her character and that can be said for many characters in this film. It starts out pretty good but quickly turns into a predictable and poorly acted out film outside of any strip club scenerio. The fact that all the women seem to walk free as if they took pleas (basically snitched on themselves, not like 69 how he snitched on others who then got long sentences...how does that work? You admit youre totally guilty of all this date rape and robbery of massive ammounts of money and walk free) without any character being imprisoned is absurd. This movie is so backwards in terms of equality its crazy, and backwards in terms of glorifying the use of strong drugs to seduce and rob the opposite sex. I feel like the script was good heading into the 2008 recession and had they totally gone a different route with it at that point it could have been good but they forget about that whole plot after a few minor struggle scenes then its back to business as usual.
Cardi B's boobs are on a whole new level in this one folks.
Crappy movie, lopez butt got big and her acting was awful seemed like she was trying to hard to turn the ghetto on. Constance Wu was a good actress but overall movie sucked. Not a great plot to begin with.
Wow. Okay, the movie wasn't a 10 by any means, but the comments are mostly shite. It was really pretty good and the only thing "wrong" was it showed women typically taken advantage of and looked down, reversing the tables. Based on a true story, and let's face it, they basically got away with it. Good for them. They didn't kill or maim anyone and those men basically thought more of their dogs than they did these women.
If you don't like women taking control of their lives, you won't like this. It's hard to justify legally what they did, but then courts let rapists who do much worse off all the time.
Boring, do something else, don’t waste your time.
im rating this a 6/10 solely because Jennifer Lopez - everything else was less impressive and meh
If this doesn't make you cringe, try Striptease with Demi MORE MORE MORE MORE
Moral of the story: go to a hooker not stripper
it started out really well but from the point when Destiny has the baby the pacing and the structure of the movie became weird.
Eat the rich or f*ck the rich!

I think its a well made film, with strong performances from Wu and Lopez. That being said, its not my kind of film, so while I appreciate its merits, I wasn't drawn into the story. Others will appreciate it more than me.
