Just another movie that was "saved" by Netflix but should have just died in production hell instead.
The story goes nowhere and totally ends up nowhere with no explanations or whatsoever.
With a good end, it could have been saved.
2 hours of my life wasted
One of the longest Cadillac commercials I've ever seen.
If you really really really need something to happen next, watch The Road (2009) and imagine this is a prequel.
I like this kind of open endings because they leave you facing your fears when the screen fades. Are the gonna reach a safe place? is it worse right ahead?

I was attracted by the cover art showing the actor wearing a gas mask. That is about as exciting as it got. Don’t bother.
Damn it. It has you wondering what the hell is going on the entire film and doesn't even tell you at the end!
Slow, clunky and doesn't really go anywhere. It's an "alright" movie with a lot of promise that never really delivers. The problem is that it's too focused on the journey without ever explaining what is happening. This continues all the way until the credits, leaving the film with a shoddy ending. Don't get me wrong, it's well made - just not very exciting or worth watching.
Going into this movie, I had a faint idea as to what it would be like. I was so wrong. After watching the trailer and reading the synopsis I personally thought of it as a revamped 'The Day After Tomorrow'. If you don't know what that movie is about, it is basically about a father who's trying to get to his son who's stuck in another city while a natural disaster hits. It is still one of my favorites. After watching 'How It Ends' though, I can say that it is firstly nothing like it and secondly far from being as good as I initially thought it would be.
The first few minutes were quite impressive. It had a good setup — not too slow and not too rushed — and what a good movie needs: likeable characters. Personally, I liked the cast a lot, but thought that their performance was only average. It was hard for me to feel the character's chemistry throughout.
After that 'promising' beginning, I wanted answers more than anything. Instead, I got a long, long, long journey through the U.S. with some minor obstacles and a lot of side-stories of characters I barely even knew. Those stories were touched but never really told and after a few minutes the main plot scared them away, never to be seen or heard from again. That resulted in characters appearing and vanishing in an instant without a huge impact on the main story.
So, the whole mid-section felt like a filler. A large portion of the movie was a filler. I wasn't bored, but also far from being satisfied. The few effects and action sequences that the movie had were fine but nothing special. Dialogues felt weak but not unnecessary or forced which is a good thing.
About 85 minutes into it, I was still waiting for something big to happen. I thought the movie (with the way it presented things, creating mystery as to what's going on and such) would soon hit its high with a big finale and a mind-blowing conclusion. But guess what ... that's when it ended. That's when I knew I wasted almost two hours of my time. The movie is titled 'How It Ends' and yet it doesn't even have a real ending. Why? How? What? No answers, no nothing. The whole time you're wondering what's going on, but you'll never get the answer. You'll never get a real conclusion to what's really going on. I'm disappointed and so will many others.
Score: 46 / 100
Short comment: There's no point in this movie. No resolution, no explanation. nada. I have a drinking game for you though. Take a shot every time they say "f*ck"..ugh. the white dude's acting was meh. Kinda lacks conviction. He's just good looking. He's character turned from 100% fuck ups to fast and furious, bulls eye shooter...ugghhhh. I have so many nitpicks, but I'll just shut up. Wide shots of sceneries were good though. That's the only positive thing I saw.
Bad everything!!! I only watched it to the end to actually see how it ended. The irony...lol.
The movie should be called: How does It Ends? Because they never explain anything!
Not a bad movie, I did get pulled into the story and it had some great twists and one or 2 that were obvious.. I had read reviews before watching but it didn't detract from liking the movie. On one hand I have to agree with some that the end left the viewer out to dry by not stating what was happening; but I tend to think it was purposeful. I'm under the impression that we were left to think about what the situation was based on aspects revealed along the way through the movie. Given the current state of non-sense people feed on from personality based politics, its amazing the same "reaching" can't be applied to just thinking about what the end of the movie is..for them. So if Ya like the aspect of thinking and maybe talking to other sentient entities about their conclusions of the movie this is a plus plus.. If you're just an arm-chair consumer then the movie isn't for you..
This movie is just bad, just bad.
I liked the movie but that ending didnt make sense at all...i mean what was it who was doing this...why didnt we get any answers? Thats just lazy writing
So except for the bad reviews so far. Anyone got an explanation for what is actually happening? There are some hints at the poles shifting with the compass and borealis.
The end flops around for about 20 minutes and feels like it just won't die. At the end, I was cheering against Will because I hold him responsible for the crap 3rd act.
I thought it had promised at the start, despite Forest's bizarrely antagonistic character. It didn't really setup any real tension between the two, it was just annoying. Once things got moving, it smoothed out... Well until the last act where they pulled a Lost Series Finale and just fucked over the viewers.
Cmon Netflix, stop doing this type of horrible film...
how it ends? anyone survived to the end of the movie to find out?
There are a lot of haters for this movie, mainly because of dissatisfaction with how the film ends...
And to be honest, the ending was a little open, but I don't think it mattered. You see, up until that point, I enjoyed the movie. The story didn't drag, and while it was never quite clear what 'the event' was or why it happened, I'm not sure that was essential to the film. It was more about the journey and the characters within, and their attempts to find clarity with chaos. Despite the occasional implausibility, the setup was more realistic than Hollywood's usual bombastic disaster flick, and that made for something quite refreshing. And as for the ending... well, I would have liked more, I would have liked more explanation, but its not a dealbreaker that it was, perhaps, a little underwhelming. As alluded, the journey is sometimes more important than the destination.
Patriarch boomer misanthropic power-fantasy bullshit. Gave it a shot but could not finish.
What is this end of shit
nothing explain what happened, and they left it hanging until the end. waste of time. there's no explanation as to what really happened, what becomes Ricki and Meg, why everyone put a gun on every people they meet, etc etc.
After watching the movie I still don't know how it ends.
Kinda reminded me of Carries 2009, which is one of my favorite films. This totally doesn't deserve the bad reviews and comments it's gotten. I found it to be really good and engaging with stellar performances throughout. Never drags. And yeah, the "open" ending didn't bother me. Because I feel like 98% they didn't make it anyways. ☹
How to not end a movie... Sad. A bit like The Midnight Sky.
A great idea but extremely poorly executed. A sudden end. A film of almost 2 hours in length cannot end with so many things open.
how it ends, how it ends, how it (this film) ends ..... ????? and when this film will end ??
Now thats a Netflix movie.
Lame, Lazy, low Cost.
Boring. You don't need to watch it twice. Worst ending possible.
With a better ending I would have definitely rated this higher. And Ricki was such an interesting character! I wished for more of her.
Too open for the ending. What an abrupt ending.... otherwise the story ware good
A decent movie if you like the genre. Worth the watch for Forest Whitaker’s excellent performance, which is always to be expected of him.
Movie was interesting but it felt more like long episode from some series more than a movie. The ending made it feel so. Kinda mediocre for movie. Nothing special happened. I cant recommend this movie to anyone.
2 hours of my life wasted, each of them looks like a stupid.
Well, Theo James is still amazing, although the film itself is ridiculous...
There are a few nice scenes here and there but overall... where is the ending!? what's going on? why all this happened?
Also, they died? probably, cause the storm was getting closer to them in the end and there is no way they could get away in this old crappy car... also, they said i love you in the end like in the last moments as if the director wanted us to understand they're going to die peacfully together after reuniting...
6/10 only because of Theo, otherwise it's horrible
The title suggests that we will learn "How it ends" but we do not learn anything!
We will not find out how the fates of the heroes are going to end , we will not find out how the world / USA ended. The only thing we find out is that in a crisis situation people behave differently and usually worse. This is nothing revealing! Wasted time.
predictable and boring. totally expendable
I enjoyed watching but it literally ends out of a sudden in the middle of an important scene without explaining anything.
What a end..... so trash
Man this movie is worst than trash
I mean dont get me wrong the movie is nice, has a lot of action but... there in no explanation, not at all and yet there are so many questions
tristíssima por ter perdido tempo assistindo esse filme.
Seriously...what kind of ending was that? I still don't understand what happened.
I didn’t understand what the hell was going on. I fell asleep three times watching this which is never a good sign.
