It’s just unacceptable that the average rating is below 70%. Come on people of Trakt, this is a generation’s classic!
what kind of an end was that??? sort of anticlimactic. we don't get to see anything of the musical they're all auditioning for.
the post credit scene was funny
I pushed play for the kids
Boring
Even as someone who doesn't watch musicals, I enjoyed it. This movie is funny asf (even though unintentional), and the nostalgia for the songs makes it worth watching.
So first the good:
- It wasn't as bad as I expected as a 30+ year old watching it for the first time
- The pacing wasn't bad
- I have a soft spot for supporting friends and family so I liked that
- The teens look like teens, normal and "not fully developed" as expecting instead of modern teen movies that are acted by late 20s adults.
The bad:
- The singing sounded so unnatural and studio clean it legit made me laugh out loud how bad it was
- The acting was dogshit
- The worst parts were the singing, especially from the 2 who were supposed to be the best
I can see anyone who grew up watching this rating it higher... But all in all it's a 6 at best... 4 at worst.
'High School Musical' is mushy Disney kitsch. At least there are some likeable actors, and one or two songs are also quite good. Despite the low production values, the choreography is also quite solid. However, there is no depth or even a remotely appealing story.
an absolute classic. staple of its time, staple of the genre. worlds best definition of a dcom. no notes
This movie brings me back so much nostalgia hence why I've rated it so highly however there are parts of it that hasn't really stood the test of time. The choreography is in point but there are elements of the story that are cliche and cheesy. In some of the song sequences there was some mistakes with the lip syncing. For example during the song All In This Together (the last song) you can hear Vanessa Hudgens singing but when you look at them on the screen her lips aren't actually moving. I get it's a musical and some of these things don't matter that much as I know they record the song and the performance separately but little things like this can tend to grate on me.
(I decided yesterday I want to leave more comments on the movies I watch, so I pay more attention and I can form a more elaborate opinion. So here I am commenting on HSM.)
Watching this movie takes me back to 2006 when we borrowed the DVD from the library and me and my sisters watched it easily 10 times in a week, once literally back-to-back.
All the songs are so nostalgic for me and they are catchy as frick. Plenty of cringy moments to have a laugh as well.
Overall just a feel good movie for me that I always want to revisit every few years.
A true cult classic. fight me.
A great Disney classic still as good as ever. Little bit short in length so the beginning to the conclusion was a bit fast forwarded but it was a made for TV movie after all. This is a great high school love story all wrapped up in an inspirational story about embracing all sides of yourself and discovering who you are as a basketball star and science geek discover music/singing together.
At the time I was just out of their target audience, but I liked it anyway. some weakness for Disney Channel movies Now, I believe 14 years later, I still like to watch this. You could call it a guilty pleasure.
EDIT: Now I think about it and count back, I was right in their target audience.
understood it better the second tube I watched it (which is just now).
definitely stands the time test
love this film my all-time fav, only showing the trailer, does it do it for anyone else?
Easily the best of all the Disney musicals. Shallow and a little boring, but innocent. The songs are catchy enough and it's cute. I guess that's all it needs. Not bad, but nothing special.
Strictly for Kids
Not gonna lie the whole time I was thinking
why am I watching this?!
The rating is so low because this is Disney movie for kids and we are all adults here, aren't we?
Let's discuss the major flaw's as an adult perspective:
there was happiness all around, why are there shi##y songs in between!!
they are not even good.
DVD has a music video.
While the movie is overly cheesy, and I didn't love it, my kids loved all the singing and dancing. And when you recognize that it was geared toward younger kids, then it's not that bad.
good not great the 2000s grease
