Very good movie, constantly had me guessing, but despite being a very well put together ending, and obviously tied down by it's source text, the ending did not seem as realistic as it should have been. Most arguments I've since heard against this is that the book it is based on makes a strong point for him wanting a child, but the movie failed to make this as clear, so his decision in the final scenes seemed nonsensical.
However the movie overall was very good, especially Rosamund Pike's performance which was very memorable and incredible.
Oh... that disappointing ending. that spoiled the entire movie for me :(
I, too, think the ending ruined the movie. Although I´m sure that´s a matter of how one looks at it. Despite that flaw it wasn´t a bad movie, I think it started a little bit slow and I wouldn`t have mind it to be a bit shorter.
This is one of this movie that you would keep guessing what comes next. The initial part of the movie keeps you guessing which is which and is that what and who really is. The ending was a bit off and unsatisfying though but nevertheless it's a good movie with good script and well acted scenes.

From David Fincher come the provocative crime drama Gone Girl. After his wife Amy goes missing Nick Dunne is suspected of foul play, and the ensuing investigation uncovers some disturbing things about the Dunne’s marriage and the circumstances of Amy’s disappearance. Ben Affleck and Rosamund Pike are quite good as the leads: especially Affleck, who gives a remarkably compelling performance. And the writing too is fairly strong, creating mystery and suspense. However, things sort of fall apart in the last act, as the film doesn’t seem to know how to resolve itself. There are also some inconsistencies in the tone. Yet while it has its issues, overall Gone Girl is gripping atmospheric thriller.
Great movie! The story line and acting was amazing, and the photography was out of this world. The director managed to capture some great shots with this movie. However, the ending was not strong and ruined the movie a little bit for me. This movie is about a man whose wife suddenly disappears from their house. At first, the evidence strongly points to the husband committing this heinous act, including the crime scene being staged and wiped down, the wife's diary detailing years of abuse and fear for her husband, and the husband does not seem at all too concerned that his wife is missing. However, we come to find out from the wife's point of view, that she purposely staged her disappearance, in order to frame her husband and start a new life. After getting robbed, the wife moves in with an ex-lover, who she eventually murders and accuses of rape. The wife finds her way back home to her husband, and her husband takes her back after finding out that she is pregnant with his baby, after going to a fertility clinic and getting pregnant with his sperm behind his back.
Entirely too predictable for me. I saw all of it coming a mile away. I even thought I would have wanted to read the book after this but I don't want to anymore. A little investigating and this whole story would not have unfolded the way it did. The end was sloppy. Despite all of this I think it was an enjoyable watch. I would like to see the characters 10 years after the end of this movie. Just a flash of what became of them.
Let's just say David Fincher's name on a movie is guaranted to make me watch it with a fair certaininty that it is going to rock which is an honour only shared by other handful directors..
But, I mean come on he is the man behind one of my all time favourite movie Fight Club.
Even with that in mind I never expected to be blown away by a movie like that, the sheer meticulousness of the plot, the amazing performance of both main actors involved was totally and utterly brilliant.
I enjoyed every moment of it and was filled with anticipation till the very end..
True, I felt like I needed a shower after watching it but hey if you do not have the stomach then do not watch a Fincher movie :DD
The movie was received well both critically and commercially. Gone Girl garnered four Golden Globe Award nominations, including Best Director for Fincher and Best Actress – Drama for Pike.

This girl got caught in the craziest lie ever and somehow recovered from it with an even crazier lie; that's crazy. Poor Ben Affleck didn't deserve this amount of psychological abuse.

This movie shows a complicated married life in which the woman plays the biggest role. A woman with strange thoughts and actions that will make you wonder. In the meantime, the man in the story becomes a victim of the woman's decisions and actions and has to endure it. One day, a woman goes missing, a man is arrested as a suspect, and the facts that come out are very strange. The influential role of a man's sister and a man's lawyer cannot be ignored. A sister who is always supportive and a lawyer who knows how to work. At the end of this movie, you will see a strange ending. Ben Affleck's good acting in this movie and the exceptional and non-Fable script is what attracts you to see this movie.
Very nutty, yet extremely entertaining.
It’s sometimes on the border of becoming schlock, but it never passed that threshold for me.
However, make no mistake about it: this is clearly meant to be a pulpy movie, it’s not about depth.
There are themes in it about media perception and some dark satire about marriage, but in the end it’s not very profound about either of those things. I’m fine with that, because the twists are so good. It’s such a tightly written, unpredictable plot that includes some hilarious, dark dialogue. Rosamund Pike is amazing, she’s absolutely perfect for this role, and I love her trashy narrator voice. Ben Affleck is also quite good, but his part isn’t as flashy.
Filmmaking’s flawless, the score is perfect and there isn’t a single moment where this movie drags for me.
I wasn’t a fan of the ending at first, but it’s grown on me with subsequent viewings. When you think about the further implications of what happens, it’s super messed up and therefore the perfect conclusion to this story.

A+ cinematography, performances, etc, etc. Unfortunately, the main characters' motivations are beyond stupid. Hard to take this at all seriously.
Try "A Simple Favor" instead - that movie acknowledges its ridiculousness and leans into it, making for a fun, wild ride.
I found it an engaging film that had tense moments. I think that certainly the actors/actresses gave incredible performances, with the script both living up and letting down these performances. The ending came off as a bit sudden, but I think that it fits with the character of Amy Dunne. Amy is a calculating person, but in sparse moments, her calculating mindset goes out the window in regard to Nick. Amy probably would have never settled down with a person like Nick, but he responded to her in a way that made her drop down these personal barriers. It's an ending that I understand and appreciate to a degree.
Wow, i love this movie from starting to the ending, hmm :thinking: men should never push woman. Haha
This has been out for over a year but I still don't want to take a chance on spoiling any of the many surprises it has in store if you haven't seen it yet.
I normally don't care for films like "Gone Girl". When there's little to no redeeming value in any of the characters, it always concerns me that the general public thinks this is the way most people behave. And speaking of the public, they are portrayed here as easy manipulated by the media. This is of course, largely true and I think Fincher nails it. I personally hate the news media and hopefully a film like this might open the eyes of many who lap up any and every thing they feed us.
As I mentioned, there are a lot of twists and turns here. I didn't find much to like in Nick (Ben Affleck) and Amy Dunne (Rosamund Pike). One is more despicable than the other, but both are immensely warped. Nick's sister Margo (Carrie Coon) and Detective Boney (Kim Dickens) are a couple of neat characters, both presented here as well adjusted and caring toward family and career.
I would have rated this higher except for a dissatisfying ending. It features a conclusion that I would normally like (it's pretty dark), but the overall statement it makes seems like a finger pointed back at the viewer, asserting that it's the way that real life couples think.

So this movie starts with Nick missing his wife and he was so cool that it looked like he did not care about her and public hated him for that.In the beginning it was like Nick don't know Amy and till the end it was like no one really knows Amy.The story was really interesting and the cast was good.The background voice was more than perfect.Tanner and Nick played it well but ,the ending was depressing especially for Nick and the movie felt incomplete.There should be more to the story.After watching it the only thought left in my mind was what type of woman Amy is?
I really enjoyed this movie. Somehow the voice and acting of Rosamund Pike was weird but I guess that's how her character behaves. The story was really great and we constantly guessed what would happen next or how things would end and unravel. We were actually wrong most of the time. It's so sad that Neil Patrick Harris played his role in HIMYM for so long because I cannot take him seriously anymore – I only see Barney and that destroys how I see him in this movie.
So in general the whole story was really cool and we were wondering about a few things how things would happen would some storylines have had different outcomes. I wish I'd read the book.
Twists and turns to make you dizzy. Everything you could ever want in a Thriller. Superb acting (Oscar worthy for Rosalind Punk). Exceptional adaptation, by the author, of an exceptional novel. This was my second watch and I give this movie a 9 (superb storytelling) out of 10. [Thriller]

The first half was predictable and nothing new at all, the second half had some nice twists and an excellent Rosamund Pike. Still 'just' a good movie.
Can't get over how bad this was. An utterly ridiculous premise with so many gaping plot holes, wooden acting and an ending that's telegraphed from the start. A major blot on Finchers portfolio, certainly his worst film and 3 hrs of my life I won't get back.
So I just watched "Gone Girl" and it was pretty fantastic. I'm not gonna say too much about the movie's plot because it is something that can be spoiled but it was delivered extremely well the characters were unique, fleshed out and very entertaining.
The soundtrack by Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross was amazing as usual. The right songs were used in the right scenes making certain parts of the movie extremely intense and extremely disturbing, it was all incredibly well paced and I didn't even feel that it was two and a half hours I just wanted to keep going. It was refreshing to hear such professional sound mixing where everything seemed to be at the right level but the characters were still audible and could easily be understood.
All of the actors were great and Tyler Perry's inclusion did not destroy the movie for me at all. Despite how horrible of a director Tyler Perry is, it looks like David Fincher was a good enough director to be able to direct him to act well. Anyway Tyler Perry did not ruin the movie for me and to give credit where credit is due he did play his role very well granted the script wasn't written in a way that called for him to shine but he did fit his character.
The meticulous direction that David Fincher has over as actors is shown quite well in this movie. Many directors would have their actors merely pretending to text when their hands are off screen but in this film you can see actions like those subtly shown through the reflection of characters glasses. It never shoves that in your face doing a close up saying "Hey look do you see this extra detail I put in?" But rather lets you pick up on those things yourself and adds an extra layer of immersion into the film.
When the characters look like they're doing things that are just for the sake of the camera paying attention it helps us believe in the world we're seeing. I'm happy to say that a lot of care and effort was put into this film the story is pretty straightforward and I don't think it's something that I'll have to watch a second time to pick up more details but in my opinion it was riveting. The only real personal issue that I have with this movie is that I found myself yelling in my head at certain characters that should be doing things differently.
But otherwise the story was daring and absolutely fantastic.

This movie exceeded my already high expectations. I heard a lot about this movie and the book it's based on but I didn't expect it to be this good. I have to admit that the main twist where we find out that Amy is actually faking her own death to frame her cheating husband Nick didn't catch me off guard, I felt that coming a mile away but it was still fun to watch and I have to say, everything that followed after that was just fantastic. I loved seeing Amy's character unfold from this lovely put together, rich kid to a complete psychopath , Rosamund Pike did an excellent job portraying her.
For me, this is one of those movies I wish I could un-watch so I could watch it again.
Absolutely fantastic, best film of the year so far, 10/10, absolute must-watch.

Er? Really? This from a director I hold in high regard with one of my favourite films of all time, Se7en. But what was this?! Just, what?!

I thought it was really good, although it didn't quite meet my (skyhigh) expectations. It kept me interested for 2.5 hours so that's an achievement on it's own.
The film is exciting, thrilling, well-paced, and almost a terrific watch.
Rosamund Pike does a terrific job as a psychotic black widow, but how should I evaluate Ben Affleck? Maybe he did a superb job, but how does one know? His character is so confusing and unlike anyone I've ever known in real life, that I can't tell if he is doing a bad job, or if he's perfectly portraying Nick Dunne. He's just as slippery a character as she is. She should be inconsistent because that's what psychopaths do, but Nick Dunne is not mentally ill, so his inconsistency made me question Affleck's performance.
When the two got into voiceovers and conversations about playing false characters to each other, I was confused. Of course she was false to everyone in her life; poor thing had no identity from childhood due to her (literally) fictional upbringing; as for him, as everyone must do, he put on a good face to begin courting her, but certainly by the time you settle into a marriage (and hopefully a lot sooner!), you are yourself. No one can keep up a fake identity 100% of the time, yet that's what they both claimed they were doing for 5 years? And the 20 million dollar question: why does she want to keep him at the end?
The last 10 minutes paints the bitterest, most hateful view of marriage in all of literature.
Best movie ever .. I love it
I have not watched this since it first came out and it equally blew me away once again. The story that is crafted here is engaging, never drags, and is unfolded at perfect pacing. This might be Ben Affleck's best, and rightfully so. David Fincher made a near perfect movie here.

Such a mammoth movie. Kinda loved it by the end? I definitely 'got' it more than when I last watched it 7 years ago that's for sure (this basically felt like a first viewing). I think this will be an 8 on next watch which might honestly be soon.
The fact that this movie precedes both #MeToo and the true crime phenomenon is honestly insane.
The first 1.5hrs was pretty good, but the last hour felt like a drag.
Overall, very intense, but no one really came out of it as likeable or acting in a way that felt like it made sense to me.
Reasons to stay single: The Movie
Thought I was getting into a regular crime drama and boy was I wrong, it's so much more than that. Starts out as an intriguing crime mystery and the more the movie progresses the more you start to question the evidence that's presented. Love the bold direction it went after that and whenever it gets into the unhinged thriller category is when I enjoyed it the most. It's clever at making you switch sides between the two characters, you just don't know who to root for - although by the end it becomes obvious. So many twists and unexpected turns I could not predict it. Well-written, good drama, dark humor just how I like it, lots of deceptions and the acting is amazing. Ben Affleck was great but I was mostly impressed by Rosamund Pike which I did not know prior to this, she got a lot of playground to demonstrate her acting chops and consider me a fan. Kim Dickens as the detective was perfection.

I honestly think that this was very well adapted from the source material and Rosamund Pike absolutely kills it in this role, you were able to truly get invested in her character. My only with this film, the same goes for the book is that I don't like the ending. It doesn't seem to go anywhere and comes across like a bit of a cop out.

I watched this when it first came out and didn’t really get the hype. I’ve read the book recently and have updated to being of the opinion that both it and this movie are just all around solid works. The adaptation here is done wonderfully, just faithful enough to please the reader but with a directioral fingerprint from Fincher that’s just enough to be satisfying to the viewer. Rosamund Pike is obviously the star of the show, the perfect casting for one hell of a character. It’s been great to be immersed in this twisted tale for the past few months.

It would have been interesting if it was more ambiguous as to whether or not Nick killed Amy. It's not obvious until they show Amy's plot halfway through. Overall probably not possible when shown as a movie but Amy's side of the story was also interesting and messed up

The case instantly causes a massive media frenzy as Nick's lies and contradicting behavior started raising doubts in the viewers' minds. Is he really the person he's trying to portray himself as? The solution might not be as simple as we imagined...
David Fincher is undeniably a talented and tasteful filmmaker, but his films tend to be hit and miss as what is narrated tends to fail at matching the beauty of the visuals. "Gone Girl" starts as one of those movies, but gets more and more convincing as the story progresses.
The film mostly tells the story from Nick's point of view, but at the same time also shows you how different people could have a completely different perception of the same facts. A considerable portion of the film has been taken to denounce the influence of media and people's lavish consumption of "murder porn". Fincher's tone is scornful and ironic, but things never get too much over the top to keep the cold, dark atmosphere of the case alive.
Rosamund Pike's rendition of Amy steals the scene for the whole second part of the film, but also thumbs up to David Fincher for making Ben Affleck look like a decent actor.
The camerawork is never intrusive and allows the viewers to feel as they are part of the story. Despite the narration going back and forth the different characters' perspectives, it goes on so smoothly that I didn't even realize that it had me hooked to screen for almost three hours. There are multiple twists along the way that manage to spice up what would have been a trite plot, but the ending felt a bit too simplified and implausible. Nevertheless, I think "Gone Girl" deserved praise as it goes beyond what other commercial thrillers and crime stories do.

David Fincher and Gillian Flynn. What a duo. Although the person that deserves most of the credit for this would be Rosamund Pike. Everyone killed it, but she actually gave me chills.
i rewatched this on a whim tonight; i'm not usually someone who rewatches movies that aren't franchises or animated classics, but i'm an enneagram six and my friends validated my thoughts of rewatching and here i am, best decision ever. i could've watched a b rate thriller or horror instead; i probably will next. but i'm glad i took the time to rewatch this. considering the plot, it's easy to think it wouldn't have the same effect knowing how it all wraps up in the ending (this review exposes me as someone who often does NOT read the book first, i'm sorry for who i am as a person) but it honestly was even more enjoyable this time around. something about knowing where the characters actually end up put me on the edge of my seat in anticipation.
that last bit about not reading the book first reminds me though—gillian flynn is an incredible writer. considering how well gone girl and sharp objects turned out, i have a feeling that not having her do the screenplay is what left dark places lacking. widows and utopia were already on my to watch list but they've moved up in priority after this revisit with gone girl for sure.
One of the most overrated films I’ve ever watched. It was on my watchlist for a while after hearing how good it was and I honestly wish I hadn’t bothered and had just left it there and gone without knowing. It’s boring to begin with but the runtime is unnecessarily long making it seem longer than what it is
A very bad film from the beginning one knows that the woman recorded it all on her husband and the whole film is boring because from the beginning one knows how it will turn out the whole film I'm bored and I absolutely do not understand how such a film can have such a high rating people simply rates the crap high it's a shame the movie is so stupid. What this movie does so brilliantly well is how we view media today, because most of the stories you hear on the news might not be true and how the media can spread lies about people and ruining their lives. Everybody always believes what the media says even if it's true or not, because we don't know what that person on the news is going through, and this movie got that message out they so perfectly.
My only problem with this movie is Neil Patrick Harris character. Now let me just say that Neil Patrick Harris wasn't terrible in the movie, but his character to me slowed the film down.

Amy Dunne (Rosamund Pike) represents the revenge fantasy of hurt women by the ridiculous standards we have to put up with just so we can make ourselves desirable for men. We reduced ourselves to fit into their liking. And at the end of the day, we still got fucked over.

David Fincher works wonders with a seemingly-difficult literary adaptation once again. Here he keeps us impaled on the hook through a twisting, thrashing, contorting murder mystery where nothing, not even the victim, is remotely as it seems. It's a great ride, one which delights in misleading the viewer into endless amounts of incorrect assumptions, while also managing to spotlight several timely, pertinent thoughts about the excesses of a 24-hour news cycle and the public's gullible yearning for their next big chance to cast shame upon a pariah.
Gone Girl is effective, dramatic, gripping and entrancing for most of its duration, but does overstay its welcome and begins to unravel in the last twenty minutes. With most of the answers already on the table, it's strange that the film lingers for so long after the fact, neurotically toying with its own plot holes and giving its audience time to do the same. That's not enough to completely undo all of the good that had come before, of course, but it's plenty to cast a little doubt.

What this movie does so brilliantly well is how we view media today, because most of the stories you hear on the news might not be true and how the media can spread lies about people and ruining their lives. Everybody always believes what the media says even if it's true or not, because we don't know what that person on the news is going through, and this movie got that message out they so perfectly.
My only problem with this movie is Neil Patrick Harris character. Now let me just say that Neil Patrick Harris wasn't terrible in the movie, but his character to me slowed the film down.
Overall Gone Girl is a fantastic film.

I couldn't wait for this movie. Having read the book the previous summer, I was following the production of this since Reese Witherspoon's production company bought the rights. For such a huge build up I would expect to be disappointed, but it is Fincher we're talking here. Loved it.
Terrible movie to say the least. Awful acting, especially from Ben Affleck, who drags this movie down even lower then it had to be. Awful awful story full of plot holes. It also feels like it's 6 hours long (and I usually like long movies).
Overall I'm baffled how this kind of movie can be this bad. Probably one of the worst drama/thriller esque movie I have ever seen. All it needed was a solid plot, some suspense and preferably some believable acting. Unfortunetly it's not even close to having any of that.
yes, it was a good movie, and Rosamund's performance was so good! but i can't get over the ending..
David Fincher proves again that the thrillers his its genre. Can't stop watching !
