James Bond Complete - Movie #3
After watching this again, I still think it's easily the best of the first three 007 entries. It's got the best bad guy, the best henchman, the best evil plot, the most action. The set design by Ken Adam rivals that of "Dr. No". Goldfinger's office unfolds into a huge playset that he can use to demo Operation Grand Slam with other mobsters.
I've been paying attention to the opening credits for each film. This one's opening, accompanied by the theme song, is truly iconic. The tune will never be my favorite, though. I can't handle Shirley Bassey's wailing.
The Aston Martin makes its first appearance and it has to be the pinnacle of gadget-laden cars in movie history.
Goldfinger, it's the film
The film with the golden stars
All five full stars
Such a fun singer
Beckons you to watch this film of fun
So don't you run
Golden music will pour in your ear
And the girls will certainly make you peer
For a golden girl knows when he's kissed her
It's a scene of sex from Mister Sean Connery
GOLDFINGER had everything. It stands as perhaps THE icon of 60's movie-making and for those lucky enough to have been around then, it remains the most beloved of nostalgic revisitations.
Who could fail to love Goldfinger (the movie that is). I feel they had fun with this movie
The first time any real gadgets have been seen, if you discount the pretty lame suitcase given to 007 in his last outing; here we get a car [iconic] with a few useful options added by Q and the first real henchman in Oddjob
Powerful music, great acting, wonderful scenery, gadets, this film has it all in spades
Do you expect me to talk? No Mr Bond. I expect you to die. FUCKING ICONIC
good movie i likeit !cccc
And so it begins... Not the Bond-lore, but the casual sexual assault....
There are a few scenes here that are very awkward viewing at best, reprehensibly worthy of being edited out for a modern audience at worst.
The lessons learnt from the upgrade of No to Russia are built upon. It's slick, flashy and polished - just like the fake gold.
It starts the last of the Bond tropes - the Aston Martin cars, the near-deaths, the inexplicably detailed explanations from the villains to the only man who can stop them...
But it starts the laziness. The plot and script aren't clever enough as they could be and the cracks are covered over with glitz. At least it gives us a more fitting ending than the first 2 films.
7.5/10
"This is gold, Mr. Bond. All my life I've been in love with its color... its brilliance, its divine heaviness."
007: the James Bond Rewatch-a-thon.
Oddjob is amazing right? He always was such a damn cheatcode in GoldenEye on the N64. Always had to aim low and he could kill you in one hit when his little hat. So annoying when friends picked him first, so satisfying when you got there first.
Anyway Goldfinger is another great entry in the Bond franchise. Another great outing by Sean Connery, you have one of the best bondgirls in Honor Blackman as Pussy Galore (she is immune for Bond advances, she lets us know), one of the best manservants ever in Oddjob, Gert Fröbe as Auric Goldfinger is a delight, he is one of the better bad guys, a lovely evil plot, great locations, lovely theme song, humor, the introduction of the Aston Martin, a lovely scene with Q, M and Moneypenny, fun battle between Oddjob and Bond and offcourse a lovely ending. Love the way Goldfinger gets sucked out of the plane!
Goldfinger was a lovely rewatch, still as fun as the last couple of times I saw it. Along side From Russia With Love, the best Bond film with Sean Connery. Well worth a watch/rewatch!
The Bond franchise finds its long-term footing in this third installment, striking a masterful balance between larger-than-life characters, silly overindulgence and skilled espionage work - a tricky combination that doesn't usually work. Where Dr. No and From Russia With Love were deathly serious, concentrating heavily on suspense, Goldfinger is far less afraid to kick back and have a little fun when the opportunity arises.
There's definitely a healthy dose of the 1960s at play here, from the fashions on display to the attitudes of those wearing them, but in almost every single instance that results in a stronger, more vibrant cast. Despite their appallingly silly names, Oddjob, Pussy Galore and even Goldfinger himself are thoroughly deep, interesting, remarkable characters with a lot going on beneath the surface. The exploration of each villain's unique nooks and crannies, paired with an intensely curvy, unpredictable plot and the unmistakable presence of Bond himself, provides more fuel than any film could reasonably require.
Quick in wit and in pace, it covers a lot of ground with admirable efficiency, leaves us with two fistfuls of memorable moments, and raises the stakes to staggering heights. It's no wonder this is the standard by which all other Bonds are judged.
The Bond series hits its stride in Goldfinger, an exciting and thrilling action film. James Bond is sent to investigate the activities of a suspected gold smuggler, Auric Goldfinger, but discovers that he has more nefarious scheme afoot. With the addition of fantastical gadgets and superhuman henchmen, the Bond formula really comes together in this film. Additionally, the story is full of fun, colorful characters like Odd Job and Pussy Galore. However, the film still has issues (mostly related to the style of filmmaking at the time). Goldfinger takes the Bond series to a new level and delivers a thrilling adventure.
Here we are...only three movies into the franchise and we have already arrived at my favourite. Goldfinger has it all. Great story, even greater villains, the first appearance of the Aston, first visit to Q-branch, and not to forget...the Bond girl with the most suggestive name.
No way around it, this set the benchmark for any Bond movies to come for years and is, in my opinion, the movie that captures the essence of what the character is all about. The quintessential Bond movie you might say. From Russia with Love might be the best spy-thriller, but Goldfinger is certainly one of, if not, the best Bond movie.
My favorite of the Bond movies. Gold finger is a work of art. Great story, fun, exciting and dangerous all in one. The character of Goldfinger is complex and dangerous but never to much for James Bond. A great movie!

After starting the marathon of all the James Bond films, I unfortunately fell off after the second one. I appreciated them, but they are so outdated it makes for a difficult binge. Finally getting back into it, Goldfinger is easily my favorite. Still, it is outdated. I am not sure how much longer this will be a prevalent entry to watch due to being 60 years old already, but it is very good and undoubtedly showing the early influence for the James Bond movies of today.

Hahaha that plane scene at the end though, I really thought he would get stuck in the window:joy:
Is this one of the best Bond movies ? I'd say so.
For starters you get a great villain that is out in the open all the time, not some mysterious evil mastermind, with one of the best replies I've heard. "No, Mr Bond, I expect you to die." Brilliant.
You have one of the most memorable and recognizable scenes in all of movie history - the golden girl. A banger of a title song sung by Shirley Bassey that sets the tone for the movie. And last but not least one of the most outrageous character names ever: Pussy Galore. Come on, you'd get grilled for that one today. And as much as I liked the first two for being more realistic, Bond needs it's gadgets. And, of course, the car.
Oh, and the story isn't bad either.
It maintains all the elements of the series.
Third Bond film and it already has everything that James Bond does, James Bond. Great movie
Despite being the third movie, many troops and stereotypes of Bond movies made it's start here. Probably the most iconic Bond flicks out there, and by extension the one of cinema's most iconic movies. ... I mean, it's great, but no From Russia With Love.
No Mr Bond, I expect you to die. :skull:
One star for James baby blue pool side onesie from the start :sweat_drops:
This is the best one so far. It has an interesting plot, a great villain, an unique henchman, a beauty Bond Girl with a funny name, a cool car full of gadgets and of course Sean Connery.
Goldfinger is the best "Bad Guy" in the first 3 James Bond movies. The plot is also very solid and the only annoyance is it's slow developing...

I've mentioned in other comments (or Reviews or whatever they're called) that I try to be a bit forgiving on the older movies, realizing that the standards - and the methods, technology, etc - were much more limited back then. And I love Sean Connery. But this… This one should have had someone - maybe several someones - go back and look at it closely, and trash the entire thing. The storyline was just ridiculous, the acting (with the exception of Connery, of course) was subpar, there were subplots that went NOWHERE and did nothing for the story…There really just was nothing good about Goldfinger . I'm watching all the James Bond movies as they're currently streaming on Amazon Prime (at the moment of this review) and the two movies that preceded this one ( Dr. No and From Russia With Love ) were both considerably better than this one even though they were older. I don't want to reveal any spoilers so let me just suffice it to say that Goldfinger had multiple "subplots" that ended with zero explanation…and that's always frustrating. Overall, this just wasn't a very good James Bond story. And it certainly didn't translate to the big screen well at all. Much as I hate to, I have to give this one a big Thumbs Down in spite of Connery. He just couldn't carry this one.
